Can we just talk about how weird the 2012 turtle's lair was? Like, they lived in an abandoned subway station that, instead of connecting to the surface like subways are suposed to, connected to a sewer pipe.
A sewer pipe
How does that even happen? How does one just shut down a subway station and then go "you know what's a good idea? Making it so no one can ever use this station again by sealing it over and running a man sized sewer pipe directly in front of the entrance! And just in case anyone still needs to get down there, for whatever reason, we'll install a manhole cover directly into the roof of the station without a ladder or any way to reach it from the floor."
What mental gymnastics, what absolute failing of New Yorks city planing team or whoever keeps track of that lead to this travesty?
And the sewr pipe connects to the subway station. That is a full on entrance, from the sewer. Somebody went "should we block this?" and they said "No, let's just fucking leave it there."
The more I think about it the more I think this was designed by someone who has never once seen a subway in their life.
I have a very specific shape in my head for the lair that doesn’t actually match any previously created lair. Maybe I should test out my architecture drawing skills and give it a try.
the rough layout of the lair in my AU i tried to make a mix between the 2012 lair , 2003 and bayverse, I'm defo not good at buildings but i tried
A simplistic unofficial guide to the tmnt lair
I sat and studied the lair for this so my daydreams could be more accurate and someone asked me to post it so here ya go 👍👍
Its not perfect but it has all the essentials
All the ninja turtles sewer lairs - TMNT History
It's a staple of the ninja turtles mythos. But why would the turtles live under the streets? In this video I explore the practical reasons for that, and the many different versions of the turtle lair.
The seating around the inside of the pit isn’t there... how did they get the seating later?
How deep underground is the lair, anyway?
I always thought it was right under the surface, because of the light that shines into the dojo.
lol... Donnie’s cute little flailing limbs... Sorry. Anyway, I figured it was the sunlight from above that made the tree grow in the dojo.
In this scene it must have been moonlight... the scene takes place at night (after Karai tells April she believes Splinter is her father, which at the time was a lie). We even see the roof of the dojo a little bit in “The Power Inside Her” and it looks like a grate. (This scene’s a little confusing as there are scenes that take place on the surface before and after it, and it’s dark out... so... that light...?)
And then of course there’s the thingy in the common room that turned out to be a periscope of some kind. It just kinda makes you think they’re right below the streets. I mean sure, it could be a really long periscope, but... I dunno. I just thought the lair was right under the surface this whole time.
But then they showed this at the beginning of “The Power Inside Her.”
It looks like it goes surface, sewer, subway tunnel, place with water pipe, then lair. It’s like they’re 4 stories below the surface. That’s way farther down than I thought... especially since I though the abandoned subway tunnel was just outside the lair. So now I don’t know what to believe. Maybe they just did this intro because it was the 100th episode and it looked cool.
