Lexa wasnât quite familiar with the term Stiles talked about, but the concept was familiar. Surely they learned very different things in their youth and Stiles native tongue still sometimes felt foreign on Lexaâs lips. âI think that is a question that there is no answer to,â Lexa stated. You could never be sure. âThe decision is given to the powerful. The powerful are chosen for many reasons, reasons even I cannot be sure of. No one knows why I was chosen, but it doesnât change the fact that this is my duty and my decision to make.
âThen it's got to be a flawed system,â she thought aloud, words purposely less audible so not to mistakenly offend. Though that was the only way she could think of it with how grey of an area utilitarianism could leave. And yet, to some degree, it still worked. âRight, your duty, I get it. But your people don't choose you, do they?â she asked, getting the hint from Lexa's words. If no one knew why the powerful were chosen, they must not have chosen the powerful themselves. âI mean if they don't vote for you, are you just born into it or was it more on the predestined side of things?â
ââopen;
âDo you know what this is?â The answer is probably yes, but it doesnât matter because heâs on his knees, arms outstretched before it like heâs meeting his creator, high and mighty atop a silver throne. A smirk tugs at the cornerâs of his lips and he wipes away invisible tears. John Murphy and his flare for the dramatics was manifesting itself full force. âItâs a shower⊠itâs a fucking shower and I call dibs.â
âAh, yes. Once upon a time, I knew what those things were called, but then all of this happened.â Stiles' arms broadly gesture around them to signify everything since their landing on earth.  âCan you believe we used to use one everyday?â Sarcasm laces his tone as he speaks, but there's no denying he's amused with the dramatics.  âLooks like I can die clean and with some sense oâwhat do you mean you call dibs, this isn't something you can dibs, you can't just dibs something like this.â
Beth marched towards him angrily, not letting him distance himself from her. It took all of her self control not to hit him but it probably wouldnât last long. âYou donât get to act like Iâm going crazy!â Beth yelled, âThis is your fault!â People constantly told her that she had anger problems but she never listened- though they were very right.
âHelpful tip, if you don't want people to think you're crazy, don't walk after them and yell at them like you're going crazyââ The teen was literally stumbling when the whole 'distancing himself' thing didn't work out as planned. Much to his dismay, his back hit the wall leaving him nowhere else to go. âOkay, okay. You're angry, I'm terrified, what ifâcan we talk it out, let's talk it out, alright?â he very desperately suggested, holding his hands up in front of his chest.
Huffing slightly, the brunetteâs eyes narrowed as she focused on the male in front of her. Oh if he only knew the truth. She wasnât the monster here, after all, some would say that Hope was the normal one out of her family.âOh, everything is going perfectly fine for me now.âHope commented, her eyes now looking at her nails as she watched the male back off to the other end of the table. Sitting herself down at her end of the table, her eyes finally flickered up at the male.âNow, the bearing down on human flesh isnât down to me, it is down to my dear family, sweetie. But I will tell them that you have warned me off, which for your sake you better be good at running.â
As she spoke, his lips slowly parted, eyes widening. Weighing the options between dealing with her or the prospect of running, especially from a family that would want and could really easily kill him from what he was taking away from her choice of words, the first option seemed to appeal to Stiles more. âNo, no, no, okay, how about we don't tell your family about this andâand we start over, alright?â Despite the words, his heartbeat had yet to decline and he was still using the table as a protective barrier.
Lexa ordered her guards to send word to the rest of the army as to what happened. They knew that theyâd retreated due to the sounding of the horn, but it was important that word got out that a deal was made. She didnât need any rogue soldiers trying to play hero.
âWalk with me,â Lexa gently ordered as she turned on her heal, the dirt crunching beneath her boot as she did so. Immediately she was flanked by her guard, but they left room for Stiles to walk along side her. âSometimes the good must die to save the life of many.â
Sepia hues strayed towards the doors, this time lingering as if she could see beyond the metal. Without doubt, there was a heavy ache in her chest tied with turning her back on those she so eagerly called her friends. Though as the commander spoke, Stiles focused on her just momentarily before soon taking the opening beside her as told.
âUtilitarianism.â she stated familiarly. Â âBut what if the good of the many isn't what we think it is and who really gets to decide that?â The question, instead of being spoken in a bitter or daring manner, was genuine.
Babe, thereâs something wretched about this Something so precious about thisâŠ
âI do it because itâs my duty. You learn that leading is a matter of the head, not the heart,â Lexa explained. It was a lesson she learned early on in her training, when she was just a young second not aware of her fate as a commander. Even as a child Lexa had been serious. She still ran amok with wild hair like children do, but sheâd listen to her motherâs stories and took her training more seriously than most.
âIf anyone can get your people out of Mount Weather, itâs Clarke.â As much as she admired the other leader, Lexa certainly had her doubts. However Clarke had proved her wrong before and a part of her hoped the woman would do it yet again. âCome, Stiles. We need to put some distance between us and the mountain before we camp for the night.â The battle had been rough on her people, they needed rest, but they needed to get to safety first. Lexa knew the sky people would not listen to her authority and thought Stiles could command them well enough for the night.
She did not further ask to know more as she might have had this been another moment in time. Though she let the commander's words fill her ears, head registering it and filied it away ask about later. There was no doubt that the method itself sounded absolutely exhausting, but, unfortunately, it made sense in more ways than one. Stiles nodded her head in agreement; she  strongly believed in Clarke. The persistent blonde gave everyone so much hope than previously imagined and managed to everything in balance almost single-handedly. âI hope so,â she spoke quietly, desperately wanting nothing more than a safe return for those within.
Her lips pressed together just momentarily as she turned slightly, eyes glancing at the door of Mount Weather before focusing on one of her people's guards, first gesturing towards the path returning from which they'd come. âWe need to move before the Mountain People have a chance to do anything elseâwe need to get to safety. Just.. tell the others it's time to leave and make sure no one gets left behind.â And with a command as simple as that, the guard gave a grim nod before beginning to do as she had asked.
Lexaâs lips curled slightly at the tone in which Stiles spoke to her in. This girl was naive, she understood little of the earth and the ways of her people. She didnât not understand sacrifice in the way Lexa did. âMount Weather has buried too many people. A fight would lead to slaughter.â
Lexa watched as Stiles began to walk away before she took after her at a brisk pace. Her hand gripped the girlâs arm and tugged her to look at her. âYou and your people outside may stay until dawn. No harm will come to you within our camp ground. But then you must head towards your own home after. Take this extension of peace, Stiles. This way you and those within our boundaries may live instead of perishing with the others.â
The grip on her arm followed by a tug had her turning with ease, sepia hues meeting with the others. Her eyes closed momentarily as Lexa spoke, having to realize that she did have to think of the rest of her people rather than losing everyone and herself to the mountain people despite how hard it was to come to terms with it. If she let them stay as the other kindly offered, there was no predicting what could happen.
Eyes fluttering open again, the defiant expression had faded, leaving a weary and despondent girl who desperately needed rest.  As impulsive as she could be, she wasn't meant to be in a position where people looked to her for their next move, where their lives were in her hands and where she was supposed to think instead of feel. While she didn't say it immediately, she did plan to take the extension of peace, but what escaped her lips instead held a worn tone. âHow do you do this everyday?â she asked, referring to the other being a leader--staying so strong.
â  if you keep trying to act like YOUâRE my friend, iâll do more than âbare my teethâ at you. â  THATâS IT. thatâs the threat. itâs the full moon, forgive him for his laziness.  â  GO AWAY.  â
â  You think this is me acting like Iâm your friend? more like me trying to keep my ass from becoming wolf chow. But hey, wow, thatâs a really good idea, Aiden and since weâre throwing out good ideas why donât you go stand in the corner over there so I can, you know, actually reach the door. Just a thought.  â with that tone heâs probably making that âsave my assâ plan of his pretty difficult.
His lips quirk up into a small smile. Things almost seem normal when Stiles asks something in that way. Except nothing is normal because if it is that question wouldnât have even come up. For that reason Scott is glad to hear that he doesnât really have to answer the questions that are being posed to him. He doesnât think he could handle it being casual about it when the only reason he watched it is because the boy he is in love with really wanted him to. The moment filled with silence is spent wondering if maybe he should be honest about what had happened between them in the past few months. Maybe it wonât be as bad. Maybe Stiles will understand. Maybe they could evenâŠ.Scott pushes the thought out if his head. He couldnât do that to his best friend. He couldnât let Stiles think that he somehow owes him something. Things would get awkward between them really fast. No. They had to hide this. Eliminate any trace they have of dating each other. Scottâs eyes fall on Stilesâ phone. There are pictures there, he needs to get rid of them. He turns to look at his friend again when he starts speaking. âWe thought it might be. Deaton couldnât find away to bring back your memories then so I wouldnât be surprised if he wonât e able to fix it now either. But we shouldnât check with him anyway. Why donât you uhâŠtake a shower first. Iâll call him while you do.â Hopefully heâll have enough time to delete the pictures.
âWhat, is it bad?â he's mumbling to himself, lifting his arm to do a little self-check sniff test and he's not coming up with anything other than the fabric softener his dad uses. Then again he's also not the one with enhanced senses, but he's still pretty sure he's clean enough to go to an animal clinic, of all places. âAre you indirectly telling me I smell or are you reminding me to do something I should've done last night if my memoryless counterpart got the daily routine down?â His eyes focus on the other once more, eyebrows quirking slightly, but either way his friend answers, it won't change the fact that he's not in the mood to stand in a shower right now, not if he doesn't actually smell odd and especially not when he'd much rather get this visit with Deaton out of the way. âI mean I one-hundred percent guarantee I'm gonna come out of that animal clinic with a mystery surprise scent anyways and it'll mask whatever you're smelling now so just call him and I'lââ The human cuts himself off, pausing, only now being able to pinpoint what else feels so different. Stiles turns away from the other, lips parting when sepia hues don't see his wall covered in pictures with mostly red string linking them together; it only took away countless nights of peaceful sleep with dozens of thumb tack pricks to put it together. âOh my god. Tell me you can see it and there's just something really, really wrong with my eyes.â
