Elriel month: Fate

Azriel was tired of Fate. Tired of the cruel thing he had been taught to worship, the same force everyone claimed was always right. If Fate was truly kind, then why did it make his stomach twist whenever the scent of Elain’s bond with Lucien drifted through the air?

He wanted nothing more than Elain’s happiness. If this bond truly brought her joy, he would have forced himself to be grateful for it. He would have thanked Fate for placing someone worthy beside her.

But she did not look happy.

There was pain hidden behind her smiles, quiet and aching, and every glimpse of it carved something deeper into Azriel’s chest. Watching her suffer while standing powerless beside her felt far crueler than never having known her at all.

Still, perhaps Fate was not entirely merciless.

It had allowed him to meet her. To know the softness in her voice, the warmth of her presence, the way her face seemed to brighten whenever their eyes met. Fate had given him stolen moments and fragile hopes he would carry for the rest of his immortal life.

And that was the cruelest part of all.

To be given something so beautiful only to learn it was never meant to be his

You will think that in the middle of 2026 we woman would have learn to support one another. After years of seen or grandmothers, mothers, aunts and cousins go through shit because women are seen as something to own and use. Even now we experience a lot of sexism even tho feminism has existed for a while now. So I think is crazy that there are women feeding into this instead of supporting one another. Even NOW some women think is ok to think a woman is a piece of shit because she doesn’t say yes to a guy….. this way of thinking is super harmful to tell a girl just take it because you were raised and are expected to just accept it since he is “nice” . We see generation of girls suffering due to this way of thinking. Elain is not real but the way this fandom views her is very real. Women are on their right to say NO and that’s totally ok

There is a lot of woman married to the “nice” guy who are miserable btw you need to be with the person who makes your heart happy and supports you. You do nothing being with the “nice” guy who makes you feel nothing

Sorry (not sorry), Elain does not need a redemption arc for the crime of not wanting a man - a grown ass man that has been given several hints she doesn’t want him and that can also ask her if she wants the mating bond or not. The way some of you talk about women rejecting men like it’s a moral failing is giving “return her to the village before she develops independent thought.” Please return to the 1950s with that nonsense and unclutch your pearls.

Not every line in a book, every interaction, or even every breath a character takes is “evidence” for a ship. This is exactly why taking a step back from fandom spaces can be healthy sometimes. When you’re deep in it, it’s easy to start connecting everything to romance, but these characters are more than who they might end up with—they each have their own personal arcs and healing to work through.

I’ve said this before about Elain needing sunlight: it’s about her, not her endgame.

Look at Feyre after Under the Mountain. She developed severe claustrophobia she was genuinely afraid of being trapped and constantly asked for fresh air, for space, to not feel confined. But that didn’t mean she needed a partner who “loves the outdoors.” That was about her trauma and recovery, not romance. Same with Nesta. After their father’s death, she hit her breaking point. The silence was unbearable because she was drowning in her own thoughts and anger, so she sought out taverns, noise, and music just to quiet her mind. That doesn’t mean she needed to end up with someone tied to music. Again, that was about coping, not a romantic hint. Now with Elain after the Cauldron, when her powers as a Seer emerge, we see her at her lowest. She’s described multiple times as a “void”, which is such a stark contrast to how she used to be portrayed—warm, bright, full of light. That “void” imagery can be interpreted in different ways: maybe it reflects her connection to the Cauldron, or maybe it’s emotional emptiness. Either way, it explains why she craves sunlight.

The sunlight isn’t about a love interest. It’s about her trying to find warmth, grounding, and herself again.

Not everything is a ship clue. Sometimes it’s just character development.

Gardens: Elriel

Elain loved plants not only because they showed the cycle of life, birth, death, and decay but also because they could speak a language words never could. She and Azriel had avoided being seen together; she suspected he was forbidden from being close to her. So, she began planting a garden outside his window, a silent way to communicate what she couldn’t say aloud.

First, she placed pots of ranunculus, letting him know she felt drawn to him, and that if this were a spell, she would never want it undone. Then came matthiola, because to her, no man could be more handsome than him. White roses followed, to show her emotions were pure, no matter the taboos surrounding them. She added peonies, symbols of a lasting romance and prosperity, wishing their connection could endure. Finally, she planted red roses, a fire only he could calm, representing the passion she felt for him.

Here and there, she scattered lavender, for devotion and calm, and violets, for faithfulness, hoping he would understand not only her love but the depth of her trust. In her garden, each bloom was a word, a confession, a plea and slowly, she hoped, Azriel would read her heart without a single sound being spoken.

Look I have so many favorite canon elriel scenes but to me the most beautiful ones are when we see Azriel just getting Elain. How beautiful to be someone with a power like Elain seeing so much to the point of driving you close to crazy and this male just gets you. Most beautiful that due to his understanding Elain starts to feel better
