"Singing will bring Az and Gwyn together"
Ma'am this is not High School Musical
Books like Haunting Adeline destroyed dark romance, "dark" usually meant an obsessive, possessive, morally gray MMC. He would go to extremes to protect her but never laid a hand on the FMC.
(Btw I'm not justifying or saying older dark romance was healthy or unproblematic, it wasn't. Many of those books romanticized toxic behaviors and unhealthy relationship dynamics that absolutely deserve criticism and they shouldn’t be romanticized.)
Now it feels like some "authors" are trying to outdo each other by creating the most horrible MMC possible. Every new book seems to have more trigger warnings than the last, another type of violence against the FMC, and at this point, there are more scenes written around the trigger warnings than actual plot.
At what point did "dark romance" become "how much can we make the FMC suffer?" Why is the abuse itself being romantized? A book where the relationship between the protagonist is built on endless torture, humiliation, and sexual violence against the FMC isn't romance. It's a fucking horror story.
Wild to see all these EL ‘yearning’ posts when the only thing Elain yearns for is to get that man the hell away from her lol
an elucien/gwynriel talking about being “worried about the quality of the upcoming book” if you cared about quality and storytelling you wouldn’t be what you are but 🤷♀️
“what if the cauldron was wrong?”

“I don’t play about real artists and designers.”
Okay then why did you erase part of an artist’s work? 🤔
Oh right because the entire art piece doesn’t fit your narrative does it?
This is disrespectful to artists. Don’t paint over or alter art people.
EDIT: Here is the entire art piece

“Give Elain to Tamlin. I want her to leave Az and Lucien alone”
This is one of the most evil and horrible things you could ever said abt a woman even if she’s fictional.
Is because you know Tamlin is an abuser. Thats why you want her to go to him.
I dunno guys, wishing a woman end up with an abuser do tell something abt how you think as a person. Wishing a woman misery in the hands of a man is a thing id never wish to my enemy.
yall can hide under the “but she’s not real” umbrella all u want but the fact your mind go to that direction when thinking abt a woman is so frightening.
I swear, some of you are setting yourselves up for disappointment. You’ve spent five years convincing yourselves that Rhys is secretly evil, the entire Inner Circle are manipulative monsters, and Elain is suspicious and is going to betray everyone. At some point, you have to ask whether that’s actually the story Sjm has been telling or just the version you’ve created in your own head.
If that’s the book you’re expecting, honestly, just write the fanfic yourself, because I think you’re going to be very disappointed by the actual books. And then you’ll all come back bitching about how “what a disappointment,” “lazy writing,” blah blah blah, when the reality is that the books just didn’t match the story you’d already written in your own heads.
Gwynriels claim their ship didn't start with the bonus chapter, but the moment you say you don't ship them, they immediately go "Did you read the bonus chapter?"
GA & EL then: *bully and attack Elriels for five years in every social media space they can find*
Elriels then: *stay silent*
GA & EL then: oh nice.
GA & EL now: *keep on bullying and attacking Elriels in every acotar social media space they can find*
Elriels now: *fight back*
GA & EL now: OMG HOW COULD YOU? YOU’RE THE WORST PART OF THE FANDOM, YOU’RE SO TOXIC, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED.
i fucking hate how some people don’t even pretend they don’t hate Elain anymore. they’ll say they’re making “objective” analyses, and then they’ll write a 15-page theory about the next books, analyze every possible plotline… and somehow NEVER once ask what Elain is supposed to be doing for the next 2,000 pages.
not a single mention of her powers. nothing.
you all know Koschei is being built up as the next major villain, yet some theories seem to bend over backwards to avoid mentioning Elain at all, even though she’s one of the characters many readers think could be closely tied to that storyline (her visions in acowar?????)
at that point, you’re deliberately writing one of the main characters out of the story. you know damn well Elain has one of the biggest untapped narrative potentials in the entire series, and pretending otherwise just makes it obvious you’re starting from your dislike of her rather than from the actual story.
Rhys sat at his desk, fury, a moonless night across his face. He asked softly, “Are you out of your mind?”
Azriel donned the frozen mask he’d perfected while in his father’s dungeon. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
😭😭😭😭????? he’s not a serious person at all LMFAOOSSOOSOAAOOA
One of my favorite things about Azriel giving Elain truth teller is that he had other weapons he could have easily offered her instead. 2 chapters later he is checking the buckles on his weapons.
He chose to give Elain his favorite precious dagger … and it made for one of the best scenes in the series🩷💙
GA "arguments" are often just random statements they make as if they're facts without anything to back those statements up.
ELORCAN
“where is he?” “where is lorcan?”
“i will always find you”
“she’ll be killed”
“she had come for him. had found him, somehow, in this endless battlefield”
ELRIEL
“i’m getting her back”
“then you will die”
“i’m getting her back”
“are you hurt?”
“you came for me”
endgame behavior ♡
life when you don't expect a title or a blurb
“If you didn't read the bonus chapter, that's YOUR problem.”
No, honey. The problem is that this bonus chapter was sooooo important that the author herself let it disappear after the first printing.
If people weren't desperately trying to convince everyone that a random ship magically became canon in a few pages, that chapter would be collecting dust alongside every other forgotten piece of bonus content.
It's actually kind of funny how the only people treating it like holy scripture are the ones who have to rely on it to TRY to scrape together something for their crackship. If your ship can't survive without a deleted bonus chapter from years ago... well...I have terrible news.
