Holiday season: Something borrowed, Something sparkly, Something fun

¡Llegó la época del año para…ser muy conscientes de lo que que consumimos! y Y compartir con la familia y festejar. ¿Quién dijo que no podemos pasarla bien y ser cocientes?

Ya hablaba en la entrada anterior sobre uno de los ENORMES beneficios de tomar ropa prestada: NOCHE DE CHICAS (referirse al video anterior)

¿Qué aretes le agrego? ¿Como lo peino? ¿Qué zapatos? Todo se resuelve en una (o varias) visitas as los closets de las mujeres que concen todos tus secretos…y por lo tanto saben muy bien cuáles son las posibilidades de que su vestido acabe incendiado al final de la noche.

Así que ¿Cuáles son mis escenciales para las fiestas navideñas?

ALGO PRESTADO, ALGO BRILLANTE, ALGO DIVERTIDO

Tis the season to be … very aware on what an how we consume…and to be jolly too. Who said one opposes the other?

In the previous entry I’ve already enlisted all the pros and cons of borrowing clothes, and there is one HUGE pro I just can’t ignore: GIRLS NIGHT (see previous video)

What jewelry goes? How do I do my hair? Which shoes? ALL this may be solved in one (or many) closet visits to your wing-ladies’ place, they know all your secrets, and hence know which are the odds for their dress to get caught up in flames in the middle of the night.

So, Which are my Xmas party essentials?

SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING SPARKLY, SOMETHING FUN

RENTED, BORROWED OR BOUGHT?

Comprar o no comprar esa es la cuestión. Por lo menos cuando se trata del vestido de noche. Ese amorío fortuito del que llevo ya varios días platicándoles. Ese que hay que planear por adelantado y ENCIMA DE TODO garantizar que sea perfecto.

Aquí los PROS Y CONTRAS:

RENTADO:

Pros

- Tienes la misma experiencia que comprarte uno, grandes salones, atención al cliente

- Algunos lugares te ayudan a estar segura a que NADIE va a llevar el mismo vestido que tu (al  menos que “ella”lo haya podido comprar en cuyo caso #killme)

- La tintorería NO ES TU PROBLEMA

Contras

- Hay que decidirse pronto o te lo ganan...y reservarlo

- El recuerdo del depósito te acompaña TODA la noche, y por ende maltratas a cualquier fumador que traspase la barrera de 5metros de diámetro alrededor de tu vestido

- No es tuyo, así que nada de retoques drásticos

PRESTADO

Pros

- Noche de chicas

- Noche de chicas

- Es gratis

Contras

- Se va en juego la amistad si no lo cuidas...

- La tintorería SÍ es tu problema

COMPRADO

Pros

- Grandes salones para que seas atendida como clienta de lujo

- Modificaciones interminables

- Dias y días de Shopping, son carreras no carreritas

- Días y días de Shopping, todo está donde menos de lo esperas

- Tarjeta de Crédito

- “Ya me lo vieron muchas veces”

To buy or not to buy THAT is the question. At least when it comes to night dresses, that one night stand that must be planned to the very last detail, the one that I’ve been talking about for a while now. You must not only plan ahead but gurantee it will be perfect. 

So here are the Pros and Cons I’ve encountered for each option:

RENTED:

Pros

- You get the same experience as if you were buying: beautiful trying rooms, costumer service...

- Some places help you be sure that NO OTHER GUEST will be wearing the same dress (with the exception that she could’ve bought it in which case #killme)

- Drycleaning is NOT your problem

Cons

- You must decide soon or you’ll loose it...

- The reminder of the safe deposit lingers with you throughout the whole party: SMOKERS GET AWAY!!!!

- It is not yours, so no drastic touchupsdrásticos

BORROWED

Pros

- Girls night

- Girls night

- It is free

Cons

- Your friendship is at stake if you don’t take care of it.

- Drycleaner IS your problem.

BOUGHT

Pros

- BIg tryingroom salons and being treated like a luxury client.

- Endless tweeks.

- Shopping days...for days

Cons

- Shopping days...FOR DAYS. Everything is in the last place you look.

- Credit card usage.

- “I’ve worn this WAY to many times"

Habrá quienes puedan creer que en un mundo azotado por guerras, cambios de temperatura y Donald Trump pensar en vestidos es banal. Pero se equivocan no hay mujer en este planeta, enserio NINGUNA MUJER en este planeta que no se atormente en cierto grado por ¿¡Qué se va a poner para ese evento?! ¿Porque el tormento? Después de mucho pensarlo he dado con el asunto: ES LO FORTUITO DEL EVENTO. ¿¡Por qué otra razón sino es que Cenicienta se hizo un vestido a la medida que durara exactamente 12hrs?! Excepto que el resto de las mujeres NO tenemos Hada Madrina que nos haga un traje a la medida en unos minutos, que sea espectacular, discreto pero luminoso, que hable por nuestra personalidad Y mucho menos uno que se auto destruya (o en todo caso que nos regrese lo invertido a la TC), o para seguir en el tema de lo sustentable: se re-integre a la naturaleza… En el siguiente post les cuento sobre mi viaje en estas turbulentas aguas

There will be people who can think that in a world injured by war, climate change and Dunald Trump call a dress a struggle is banal. Well you are very wrong, really NO WOMAN in this planet hasn´t been tormented to a certain degree about. What is she wearing for that event?! Why the tribulations? After some serious thinking I’ve come to realize that the thing is: IT IS ALL FOR A ONE NIGHT STAND. Why if not for this reason Cinderella gets a costum made dress that lasts exactly 12 hours?! Except the rest of the women in the world DO NOT have a Fairy God Mother that can build us a costum made dress in a couple of minutes, which looks espectacular, is discrete but luminous, that represents our personality, and MUCH LESS one that is then auto destroyed (or else reinburses all expenses to our credit card), or to keep up with this sustainable subject: can be re-integrated to nature… In my next post I’ll tell you all about my journey through these troubled waters.

H&M hizo esta SÚPER campaña para este asunto que han estado promoviendo llamado #HMCONSCIOUS. La campaña está tan cool como cualquier cosa hecha por la marca, por lo menos en términos de estética PERO creo que se les olvida mostrar lo más importante sobre darle otra vida a la moda, dejar ir lo viejo para traer lo nuevo: POSIBILIDADES.

Verán, yo ya he superado el terrible proceso de sacar TODO lo viejo de mi closet. Terrible, sí he dicho terrible, ¿¡Quién me garantiza que las playeras desigual de los 90′s no van a tener un gran regreso este verano?! PERO si no han salido del closet en ¿que? 7 años, es momento de que encuentren nuevas posibilidades, y yo también. Junto con mis jeans fluorescentes y mis bras de cachorritos. No es que no los ame, es solo que es tiempo de ir en búsqueda de nuevos horizontes en la moda y estos tres tickets de #HMCONSCIUOS que he obtenido parecen ser el acceso a ello...

So H&M just made this HUGE campaign for this thing they have got going on for a while called #HMCONSCIOUS. The campaign is as cool as anything made by the brand, at least asthetically wise BUT I think it misses the point a little bit as to what rellys behind letting go of the old and welcoming the new: POSSIBILITIES. 

See I’ve already gone through the dreaded process of getting ALL the old out of my closet. Dreaded, yes I said dreaded I mean really WHO CAN GUARANTEE THAT THE 90′S DESIGUAL TSHIRTS are not making a HUGE comeback this Summer?! But really...haven’t worn it in the past 7 years, its time to find new possibilities, along side my flourescent jeans and cute puppies bras. It is not that I do not love ‘em its just that it is time to go find new fashion horizons and these three #HMCONSCIOUS tickets I’ve got seem to be the access to it...

Figure out if we could evolve in the material from wich the “fibers” of these pieces are made:

plastic bottles, plastic bags, food thermal packaging.... Oh the possibilities!

O better yet: I’ll grab this skirt I don´t need any longer and burry it in the ground to make it biodegrate

And YES they move beautifully

I’m a fashion enthusiast, we all know that. But I’m also a sustainability freak. Tree-hugger, hippie, intelectualoid, however you may call me I am Pro-lets-not fuckup-this-only-wonderfull-planet-we-have-to-live-in-for-the-rest-of-our existence-as-humanity.

Yet, as John Oliver my dearest shows in this video, this both interests opose each other heavily. Not only because affordable fashion is a danger to the planet, but to a whole lot of fellow human beings.

SO, my mission from now on: find awesome fashion and sustainable ways to consume it and enjoy it.
