I haven't been around much. Well, at all. Yeah. Sorry about that.

I'm still interested in keeping Tryll alive, because I'm rather fond of him and his antics, but I just haven't been checking this, his twitter, or Panem October... Again, sorry.

Day 2: Do you have any special people in your life?

My family are pretty much out of the picture.

I've been working with Kode for about a month, now, and he's pretty important to me. He helps me to realise that being a Peacekeeper isn't all that bad. We can joke about things, and actually help people if it's possible. Especially when I think about all the other partners I could have ended up with, yikes.

And I consider everyone I talk to on here pretty damn special, as well. You guys are all so amazing.

Day 1: What’s your name and family background?

My name is Tryll Smith.

Born and raised in District 3. My parents both grew up working in the Steam. I had a younger sister, Lily, as well. It's complicated, but I may as well explain.

When I was nine, my Dad took my sister and he left. He walked out to the border and left the district. He woke me in the middle of the night, and asked if I wanted to come, and I made it to the edge before running home because I was too scared of what was out there.

He didn't come back for me. I've never learnt exactly why he left. Maybe just he hated the Capitol. Maybe he was in some deep trouble and that was the only way he thought he could escape. For whatever the reason, he bundled Lily up, and ran. And I had to accept that they were probably both dead, or at the very least gone forever.

My Mum dealt with this by becoming incredibly invested in her work. She had managed to land an important administrative job in the Station, which is how she managed to get me into an apprenticeship there. She wasn't home very often, and when she transfered to the Pale when I was fourteen it was hard to even notice that she'd left.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I had been brave enough to follow my Dad.

Do you get any time off before you have to go back down into the mines? Because the air down there can't be good for anything.

I  am so sorry guys I’ve been gone so much - I’ve got a major exam on Monday, then another on Friday, then the following Thursday - I’ve been studying most of my waking hours. For Tryll & Lita, I was meant to meet/look for you at the coffee house - but I’m not going to make it this week! I’m basically going to be off-radar for a while, which sucks, but unfortunately my university education is a wee bit more important than PO :(

I think I know the story you’re referring to, and trust me, you had to be there. Raccoon aeronautics are incredibly hard to describe with only words and gestures.

That actually sounds like quite an interesting job, although I can imagine that it would get tedious after a while. And dealing with all those deaths…

OOC: Retconning your character a little bit so they fit in the Pale? I like it. I like the twist.

Also, can we talking about how awesome ‘Paleian’ sounds? It’s reminiscent of ‘Patrician’, which is very fitting.

Thank you. It’s heartening to know that some of you don’t hold it against me. Though I’m sure they’re be a few out there who feel differently. I can only hope I make a good enough impression.

My job can certainly be interesting. Particularly names. I really enjoy them -such a wide variety! The deaths can be quite interesting too, in a morbid way. But there always comes a point in the day where I need to shut it all out. It can really wear you out. Particularly when accidents… occur.

[OOC] Yes we CAN talk about how awesome it is. Thank you :D I tried working it around, and Paleian sounded like the best fit to me.

As for the Retconning, yes indeedy. This fit what I had in mind for Lita, though, in terms of family. Originally she moved to the Micro to escape her parents, but it still fits with her in the Pale. If anything, it adds a nice layer of that wouldn’t have been there otherwise.

I'll bet there are some crazy names around. I remember Lynn mentioning a few she'd ran across on Twitter. What are the most random ones you've seen? :)

I'm sorry about the 'accidents' that you have to deal with.

I’m currently teaching Nosferatu in my film class. Came across this little tidbit while looking for ethnicity representation excerpts for my students to read.

Tryll, is this where you got ‘The Pale’ from? Or is it one of those eerie coincidences? D3 is west of The Capitol if we use the Spirally Map of Awesome…

Actually, I got 'The Pale' from an area in Ireland that existed in the late Middle Ages. It's where the English settled, and so where all the wealth and Crown governorship was. At the time, the native Irish - who lived elsewhere in Island - were viewed as quite barbaric and uncivilised by the settlers, in contrast with those who lived in The Pale.

This is a completely awesome coincidence, however.

I was right about the bruising on my right shoulder, but no one will see it. I dress in the nicest clothes I can wear to work without arising suspicion and put my hair into braids. I have never had interest in the makeup that the capitol wears but find myself wishing I had something to…

Tex! I know her! Wow, I didn’t realise she had been called into the mountains, or even that she had left. But I’m not around trains very much anymore, o the misery, so I guess it’s unlikely I could have heard.

Tell her I say hi, would you? And tell her that she still owes me a sandwich. ;)

I finally got the message to her and her response was the loudest laugh yet followed by something like “over my dead body I do,” . She says that she misses the station and you and all of your friends. And she’s happy you ended up in the pale. Then there was a story about a train and a raccoon I could only butcher trying to tell, but she seemed to think it was pretty funny. I think your message helped get her back to normal after our visit today, thank you. She is humming again.

They arrived at 10. There seemed to be a crowd of people, though later I would only count eight. Immediately Mr. Crane introduced himself. In my haze of anxiety and the...

So, there's going to be some form of fire gun in the Games this year? Never good news. Never at all. And asking to test it in a wooded area - that could easily lead to chaos with real flames. I can't believe they're going use things like this on kids. Well, I can believe it, having watched the Games every year... which really just makes this all the more awful.

the "weapons" district

I have two ideas with two different thoughts for names for the weapons area:

Snow - because the area would likely have large amounts and long seasons of snow.  Would be known for the bitter cold in the winter.  Also, the labs/factories would probably be stark white and the scientists could wear white lab coats over their black work wear.  Also named because of the close attention President Snow pays to it and the direct oversight of the capitol in that area. 

Caps - Literally from mountain caps, often white, that would be visible from several miles away.  Could also be descriptive of the sounds of gunfire and explosions from a distance.  Also, who doesn’t wear a hat in the winter?  Could also be symbolic for being the Capitol’s hat, kept close enough yet can be thrown away at any minute.  

I'm going to put my vote in for Caps, mostly because I love me some puns. And having an area called Snow is just creepy. *shudders*

I was going to suggest doing knowledge as it is in the video, but with 3 taps instead of two.  Keep the hand at a diagonal to the ground, but not parallel to the face (you don’t want to look like you’re slapping yourself). Then have the hand down to your side instead of flying out like a salute.  Also representative of a shyer, quieter district.

I like this. The shy nature of it, especially. :)

I mean, they’d probably let me go to the coffee house, but I’m not planning on saying anything unless they actually ask.

Is it alright if I bring Kode?

Of course! I’m a little nervous to meet him too - I’m not used to trusting peacekeepers - but it’ll be a good start!

I know you have your photo up, but if I don’t recognise you? I have a very limited wardrobe, so I’ll be wearing black pants, a black jacket and my reaping dress (here) I think I’m the only person who keeps wearing standard black outside of work hours, so I’ll stand out pretty well. You know my face, too - my hair is very long, and (surprise!) dark brown/black.

I love “Knowledge”! I think it’s subtle, and really nice. Although it kind of reminds me of a salute, so I don’t know if that’s good or bad!

I like the salute side of it. It also has a hint of a nose tap to it.
