"Vancouver School Board Introduces Gender-Neutral Pronouns"
"Students and teachers in Vancouver can now use the gender-neutral pronouns "xe," "xem," and "xyr." The move is designed to accommodate students for whom "he" and "she" does not fit or is deemed inappropriate…
"The newly coined pronouns — xe, xem, and xyr — are pronounced to rhyme with the genderless plurals "they," "them," and "their," and all starting with the "z" sound. So phonetically speaking, they’re pronounced "zey, "zem", and "zare.""

the article doesn’t do the issue justice.
the issue regarded policy change, where the vancouver school board’s (VSB) LGBTQ+ advisory committee re-wrote existing policy to protect staff and students falling on the queer and trans spectrums.
the policy revision includes
-they/them/their and non-traditional pronouns being recognized by the school system
-required used of preferred names and pronouns by all staff and students
-preferred names/pronouns on all school records
-gender-accesible washrooms and change rooms available to those who require them
-disciplinary action taken against those who act in a discriminatory or hateful manner towards students, staff, and families falling on the queer and trans spectrums
—————-
the consultation was the longest ever done by the VSB, with over 120 speakers spread across 3 meetings.
the process also resulting in two school board trustees being ejected form their party’s caucus, due their discriminatory actions and arguments.

Maximum Hydration Method - Pinke Cube Questionaire
These are the answers to questions posed by Pinke Cube on the web site www.maximumhydrationmethod.com.
Pinke Cube Questionnaire
1. How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural for 6ish years.
2. Why did you decided to go natural and your experience being natural.
To be honest it was a sort of dare from a friend. I had quit a job that I wasn’t really happy in and by best friend had wanted me to cut off all my hair for a long time. After I quit we celebrated with rum and cokes and a pair of clippers. Me, my best friend and my roommate had drinks and she cut off all my hair! Up until then I had mostly done at home relaxers. I was 29 or 30.
3. Tell us a little bit about your hair, like your hair type, porosity, texture, length.
When my hair is stretched out the front is down to my chin. The back is a little shorter. The crown is various lengths because of breakage. I believe I have high porosity hair. The texture is coily/kinky.
4. Some of your struggles (if any) being natural before MHM .
I think the biggest struggle I have as a natural is split ends and breakage. I can usually get my hair to chin length, but never longer than that. I also have very think hair. Meaning there are a lot of strands per square inch. Because of the split ends it could be very time consuming and frustrating when detangling. Also putting my hair in a semblance of control was also time consuming. I would usually put my hair into two strand twists and wear it for about 3 or 4 days and then twist it out for the last few days of the week and then start all over. That could take up to 8 hours depending on how tired I was.
5. How did you find out about MHM and why did you decide to give it a try?
I heard about MHM on the “Black Girl, Long Hair” web site. The reason why I decided to give it a try was because I was hoping that it would make my hair more manageable and hopefully eventually cut down on styling time.
6. How long have you been doing MHM ?
I have just started doing MHM. I am on day 2, but I’m really amazed by the results already!
7. Your experience with MHM so far.
The first day was very time consuming. But each step of the way I could feel my hair loving it. So it was very encouraging. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the Cherry Lola treatment basically erased the gray hairs that I had.
8. Your views/experiences and maybe other people’s view of your hair before and after MHM .
So far the only person that has seen my hair is my family. I decided to start this process of the Labor Day weekend. My mom was so delighted that she wants me to try it on her!
9. Any advice to anyone who is considering trying it for the first time or to other naturals in general.
My initial result is individual to me. I truly wasn’t expecting such a dramatic result. I think it may be because I have been trying several different products to keep moisture in my hair. I think it’s important to keep an open mind. When I started out I decided that I would give it a try for the 7 days and if I didn’t like the result then at least I would have learned something.
Day 4 MHM - slept w/ hair rolled and pinned, to stretch it out a little #MaximumHydrationMethod

Geek and Sundry Fantasy Football League 2015
I don't even want to think about how long it's been since I last posted. All I want to say is I'm sorry and I have no excuse. Except my life is kinda boring and I really don't have anything I feel is interesting to blog about.
Tonight though is an exception. A couple hours ago I finished my draft for my fantasy football league. The unique thing about my league is that it's composed of people that I met through the Geek and Sundry web site.
They're all people that I have blast interacting with, but have never met in person. Not even the guy that lives about 5 minutes away from me. Last year even though I think I had a pretty good draft position and picked some alright guys I still came in last.
This year I did even less research, but I had a better draft position so I think I'll do ok. I decided that I wanted to have a custom logo for me team this year. So I put my nose to the Photoshop and I think I came up with something that is pretty ok.
Say hello to the Valdemar Velociraptor team logo!
Valdemar is from one of my favorite fantasy book series by Mercedes Lackey and Velociraptor because I have a bit of a girl crush on The DoubleClicks.
Here's hoping that we have a better than average season. Rawr! Rawr! Rawr!
Some pictures from #BoatPartydotBiz2014 I had a blast! I was great seeing the people that I met last year and meeting new people. Of course the comedians were great and I'm pretty sure I danced so hard I dance my pinky toe off!
Thanks to Jess Thorn and the entire Maximum Fun gang for another great event. Can't wait to see you next time!

In Your Eyes Review and Stuff
This weekend I rented the new Joss Whedon movie, “In Your Eyes” . The basic premise of this movie is that two people are separated by location, but their meet-cute is that they have the ability to see and hear through each other’s eyes and ears. It's as if that person were in their head or standing next to them.
Through out their conversations they realize that they have been connected ever since they were young children. As you can imagine people in their everyday lives start to think there is something off with them. Eventually they are forced to come together in person if they want to continue their relationship.
I think the premise of the movie is interesting and not your normal take on a romantic movie. I think many people have had an imaginary friend or talked to themselves. This film asks, "What if you were actually communicating with another person? And what if they were kinda perfect for you?"
I really enjoyed the acting of the two people playing the love interests, Rebecca (Zoie Kazan) and Dylan (Michael Stahl-David). It can be difficult reacting to someone else onscreen, but these two actors were essentially performing monologues, but not really because they were supposed to be talking to someone else. I’d be interested to know if the other actor was reading their lines off screen or not.
There were a couple reasons why this movie came across my radar. One of the reasons why I deciced to rent this movie was because Michael Stahl-David is an actor that I had the privilege to work with when I lived in Chicago and I like to try and support his work when I can. I think he does a great job in this film. He's charismatic and engaging. I think he and Zoie Kazan are a good fit for each other and it would be fun to see them together in the same scene sometime.
The main reason that I rented this movie was that Joss Whedon wrote and produced it. As a fan I have to admit that I will try out just about anything he puts out there. The novelty of this movie is that it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, but it’s not available in theaters and doesn’t have a distribution company. Joss has an agreement with Vimeo On Demand that people can rent this as a 3 day rental for $5. I think this is fantastic! Normally a festival movie like this, only a handful of people would have had the opportunity to see it unless it got distribution and then it may only be released on a limited number of screens. Now anyone who has an Internet connection can view this movie. I learned that Vimeo has a Roku channel so instead of streaming it on my desktop or laptop computer I was able to watch it in HD loveliness on a giant tv screen. Also I didn’t have to deal with people talking during the intimate bits, or children crying and I saved myself taking out another loan to buy popcorn and soda at the movie theater.
I think it will be interesting to see if more independent filmmakers will try and distribute their movies completely online. I don’t know what kind of deal Joss has with Vimeo, but I imagine he’s probably getting a better cut of the revenues pie then if he were to go through a distribution company.
I think you should definetly check out “In Your Eyes”, because, 1.) Joss Whedon 2.)Interesting premise and 3.)Sticking it to the man.
If you do rent the movie I would be interested to know what you throught.

This is Your Brain on Engineering (GoldieBlox Easter PSA)
At age 2, girls start to identify with their gender. Or, more accurately, all kids start to understand that they have a gender, and become more aware of the social influences for how they should act as a result. In our culture, there are narrow blueprints called “boy” and “girl” that dictate to us all what is and is not the “right” way to act. These blueprints are pretty limiting — “boys don’t cry” and “girls are princesses” aren’t exactly the greatest life mottos. Gendered influences come from everywhere around kids: their parents, their friends, their teachers, the games they play, the movies they watch, the books they read… the list is endless, and all of it sends a message, sometimes negative and often limiting, about what is and isn’t a “girl thing” or a “boy thing.”
