TSE Week 2025 | @tseappreciationweek | Day Four - Outfit
As I was working on yesterday's paper doll outfit it occurred to me most of this iconic look from chapter 15 and 16 should be easy enough to find and put together.
ref one (concept art) | ref two (full length) | ref three (blouse) | ref four (blouse) | ref five (hem) | ref six (back full length) | ref seven (upper back)
black or dark gray long sleeve t-shirt (scoop neck, thumb holes)
green skirt (handkerchief hem)
white blouse (short puffed sleeves, deep cuff; stand or built up collar)
brown boots (knee high, front lacing)
brown corset/bustier/vest (overbust, eight panel, shoulder straps, double belts at waist)
the Silver Eye (telescope) and case (leather, shoulder strap)
My reading suggests that the skirt really is that easy--hip measurement = circumference of circle. Take the radius, add the desired length to the point, and double that. Make a square with the resulting measurement. Cut your circle in the middle and gather to a waistband. (The references say it's a four-point hem, but they also suggest it's a pretty full skirt. Not having draped anything similar I don't know if I'd add more panels or not...)
Then I ended up in the weeds trying to find tutorials on how to construct a telescope but most were more interested in putting in lenses then in discussing how to make it telescope. I just want a nice blog post circa 2013 on how to assemble the pieces...
If I wanted to be exact instead of good enough for the white blouse, dirndl blouse patterns seem promising, though my initial searches haven't turned up one with both the sleeve options and the collar I want.
Boots are probably expensive.
The most difficult piece has got to be the corset. I'm thinking invisible zipper in a side seam, and a custom fit pattern.
Yeah. Easy enough in theory!
