And cars… Now I wouldn’t diss the American bald eagle - it is a beautiful bird - but I had my little Aussie wildlife encounter this morning, then saw this on fb, so posted it for @lifeweightsandpavement. Wedge tail eagles are freaking enormous birds. They are opportunistic too and pick up road kill - I’ve seen one take off with a roo in its claws - and that’s how my bro came to have a close encounter.
He and some mates were in a van driving northwest and a wedgie was on the road. It was a bit slow giving up its breakfast so was off the ground, but not far enough, and flew straight into the van.
My bro says the vehicle went dark. The wingspan covered the entire windscreen and wrapped around the sides. They were still travelling at speed and the guys were screaming, but the bird overcame the g-forces and heaved itself up and away, a bit winded no doubt.
