Twisted Wonderland Arknights!AU HCs Part 3: Diasomnia

Back again with the TWST Arknights!AU headcanons series. Been a while since the last time I work on this series, RL has been overwhelming and whats not. Now I decided to continue this after the finalization of Book 7 on JP.

This time, we've got two Diasomnia dorm members to be reimagined if they are part of Arknights universe. I only pick two members because they're the ones that are visibly not human.

Now, unlike the preceeding two parts, the races explained here are not based on real existing animals of our real world but mythological creature and in-game fictional race instead so there would be no referenced animal.

English is not my first language and this post is so self-indulgent I don't even think much about the grammar or such so bear with me and my messy writings.

Pardon any lore inaccuracies of both games. Feel free to correct me if you find any.

Malleus Draconia (w/ bonus bit of Malleanor) | Draco

No doubt, dragon boy would obviously be a draco in Arknights universe.

Draco in Arknights is based on European dragons. They are easily noticed from their physical characteristics such as the huge horns, scales, and bulky huge tail.

Dracos are known with their highly advanced physical strength and their capability to manipulate fire by originium arts (something similar to magic but more closer to matter manipulation in Arknights's universe). What's special about their fire-manipulation is that the fire they produce came from the manipulation of organism cell's metabolism instead of just 'magic'. The ability gave them more unique sub-abilities such as necromancy and healing.

This race is extremely rare in Terra, most assuming them to already extinct though there are still very few surviving bloodlines. They are famous for being prominent royalty figures. Originating from the country of Victoria and Tara, they used to be the ruling race of the country before the coming of Aslan royalties from Sargon, which through lots of twists and turns lead to decades of conflict between the dragons and the lions (sounds familiar?? lol) with the dracos ended up being in the losing side.

[BOOK 7 CH 13 SPOILER ALERT!]

Since dracos are basically just dragon people, Malleus definitely fits the description though prior to the chapter finale of Book 7 he rarely shows his tail. That's because while he can show his tail in his human form, sadly he decided not to show his tail on daily basis at school because according to him his tail is fairly strong and may act spontaneously which could hurt people (he's so considerate 🥹). We got to see a glimpse of his tail is in Scary Monsters Halloween event, specifically in his SR card.

AND NOW LOOK AT HIM AND HIS MOMMM. THE TAILLLL. MY DRACO(NIA) FAMILYYY MY SHAYLAS 🥹🥹🥹

(welp, Mal's tail is kinda folded and slightly hidden behind him unlike his mom's tho)

And let me tell you, we (I) NEED to see MORE of his tail. They better give us SSR Malleus with his tail shown in the future.

(Yes, this is me spreading Waka-sama's tail agenda)

Power-wise, we know from the main story and some event stories that he's capable of lots of powerful magic including fire-related magic such as summoning the Disn*y signature green flame and thunder. That one is enough to a draco's fire manipulation arts. Not to mention that he's also physically significantly stronger than others.

Lilia Vanrouge | Vampire Sarkaz

Sarkaz or Teekaz are humanoids with ranges of physical traits with the most common are horns with various shapes on their head, pointed ears, and tails with differing shape with the most common type is the thin long tail with pointed ends. With those characteristics, they're often called and associated with 'demons' or 'devils' even though for sarkazs themselves those are considered as slurs.

However, there are some types of sarkaz that doesn't have most or some of those characteristics. Another notable characteristic of sarkaz is they have elongated lifespan that could last for hundreds or even thousands of years.

Sarkaz are made up of many subraces or 'tribes', differentiated according to their physical traits and arts specialization. One of them is the vampire sarkaz.

Just like their name, they resemble the vampires that we know: they feed on blood (though most are not dependant on it), nocturnal, and they have pale skin and red/pink eyes. Some, typically the nobles, even sleep in a coffin. However, unlike most sarkaz, they don't have horns or tail.

They're proficient in blood-related arts. Some of the use of their blood arts includes buffing and healing their allies with their blood and 'branding' people close to them with their preferred scent as a declaration of protection and a way to locate the person even from a very long distance.

I really like thinking of the possible AUs of Lilia being a sarkaz. Physically, he checks all the vampire sarkaz characteristics including his physical strength. We don't really know much about his magical power so I can't really imagine how he would manipulate blood for battle, but I could really imagine Lilia branding Silver and Malleus with his blood.

Also, sarkaz often work and get hired as mercenary. I like to think that Lilia's years as a General parallels with the alternate universe of vampire sarkaz Lilia working as a mercenary. We can also imagine his relationship with draco Malleus and Malleanor started with Malleficia hiring him as a mercenary to fight in a Aslan-Draco conflict in Tarra or Victoria. And now, he's just a retired merc living a pacified life with his adoptive son and his dead friendslashcrush's son.

Now, I still plan to continue this series though for the next HCs it would be different. Since the rest of the TWST main characters are human or human-looking, next time I would like to try imagine what race would they be if they live in Arknights' universe. It would be better if I can draw but rn, I can't 😔. But I'm not sure when will I post it tho.

Also, I plan to tidy up and add more infos and such on the earlier two posts about Savanaclaw and Octavinelle bcs after leaving it for a while and read it again, even though I don't really mind with the grammar or structure, they still feel too messy especially the Savanaclaw one.

Twisted Wonderland Arknights!AU HCs Part 2: Octavinelle

The continuation of my TWST Arknights!AU headcanons. This time would be my favorite as well as the longest one I made because I'm biased. Basically this is the one that sparks the ideas of these HCs.

I present you our beloved cunning and sly fish people: Octavinelle!

Since the Octatrio are all merfolks, that means in Arknights universe they all fall into one race category:

Aegir

Aegirs are basically the fish people of Arknights, but they're not mermaids even though they're based on various marine animals such as fish, cephalopods, crustaceans, cetaceans, etc.

This race doesn't really have any distinct physical characteristics so they seem like normal human, but their skin are more susceptible to dry temperature and they can breath underwater.

They originated from an underwater civilization by the same name. The civilization was inspired from the legendary lost city of Atlantis in our world, but culturally they were based on the social and political settings of Ancient Rome.

They are known to be more advanced than any earth-dwelling civilizations in Terra in terms of technology and knowledge. Aegirians also have a culture of paying extra attention to aesthetics and they are known to be good at visual and performance arts. They even often use songs as a mean of communication.

Meanwhile in TWST, we've got the Coral Sea. Though it is implied that unlike Aegir, Coral Sea seems to be technologically less advanced than the land-dwelling civilizations in Twisted Wonderland. However the cultural aspects of art, particularly music, kinda match with the cultural setting of Coral Sea where the Octatrio came from as the trio often tell us how music is quite an integral part of life in the Coral Sea.

Now, let's imagine the Octavinelle trio as Aegirians!

Azul Ashengrotto | Octopus-based Aegir

It took me quite a while to determine which species of octopus he could be based on. My best guess is he could be based on the giant Pacific octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini). This came from that time Floyd mentioned that Azul in his merform is huge, even bigger than the tweels despite him being shorter than them in his human form.

Jade & Floyd Leech | Moray Eel-based Aegir

I can't find any moray species that has their signature turquoise colour, but based on their huge body size and the characters they're twisted from which are Jetsam and Flotsam, I think the best referenced species for them is the giant moray eel (Gymnothorax javanicus).

Bonus 1: Abyssal Hunters

When thinking about Arknights!AU, I often imagined that the trio could be a part of this special Aegirian battle squad called the Abyssal Hunters.

They're are basically Aegir's super-soldiers. They're hybrids that were made through experiments of genetical mutation done by infusing the blood and cells of seaborn into their body. They've got superhuman physical strength, endurance, and speed, but they can't use arts (magic-like power in Arknights universe).

And they are made to fight the seaborns itself.

Abyssal Hunters usually have white hair and red eyes, a sign of a their merging with the Seaborn. Though it seems like there are also some Abyssal Hunters who don't possess such traits, but they are rare. They also have a signature uniform and hat, they also often use huge melee weapon to fight.

Now, I can't imagine the Octatrio with white hair, like, it kinda doesn't suit them at all me think. But I REALLY want to see them in the hunters' uniform. Especially the twins since they already have the physical strength. I think Floyd could use a scythe and Jade a rapier or an axe. Azul may not have the strength as much as the twins, but I still bet he gonna look so good in their uniform lol.

Bonus 2: Seaborn

First of all, seaborns are sea monsters coming from the abyss of oceans and they have been Aegir's biggest enemy for centuries. They can evolve incredibly fast and possess the ability to independently mutate their own cells which makes them highly adaptable to changes around them.

Seaborns live with a hive mind/collective consciousness called 'We Many' and they consider any other organism that is not part of 'We Many' as a threat to their survival. Thus, they make themself a mission to annihilate any other forms of life or turning them into their kin.

This could be done with their ability to fuse their cells into other creatures, turning them into another seaborn by consuming the organism or the other way round. Yes, they can modify someone physically and psychologically over time to adhere to the hive mind. For the victim, they can try to retain their consciousness, but it will become harder and harder the more they change to resemble a seaborn. Some even ended up in madness just before they completely turned into a seaborn.

The Octatrio's merfolk form often reminds me (close enough) of the seaborns, especially Azul's overblot form. If they live in Arknights universe and through some unforunate events got turned into seaborns, they could be one of the sentient ones with advanced intelligence. They'd be the more dangerous kind than most seaborns, which are more animal-like and most of the time non-sentient and unintelligent.

Twisted Wonderland Arknights!AU HCs Part 1: Savanaclaw

Commemorating my return to this blog after 1212391813 years (rl has been overwhelming), I'd like to write myself a self-indulgent HC of a crossover between two of my current gacha game hyperfixations.

Some weeks ago, thanks to my insomnia, I made a thread on twitter to make myself sleepy. It's about TWST characters with visible physical characteristics that may pass as Arknights characters which includes their possible race as well but I can only post pictures without explanations. So now, I'd like to do the similar thing but I'm gonna break down the ideas.

Explanations including the description and lore of the races, a quick highlight of what I thought as interesting parallels in settings, stories, or characters, and simple wild guess about what specific animal species they could be since Arknights is pretty specific with the animal species' they referenced in this game.

Introduction to non-Arknights players and those who are not familiar with the game: Arknights is an RPG tower defense mobile gacha game made by Chinese developer 'Hypergryph'. The story of Arknights took place in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic planet called Terra. The 'humans' who inhabited Terra got kemomimi and anthropomorphic features of animals and mythological creatures, which then divides them into several races based on the animal they're referenced from.

Leona Kingscholar | Race: Aslan

Aslan is a race in Arknights which is based on lions, they're somewhat a sub-race of the Felines which is based on cats and big cats. They originated from desert area of a country called Sargon, though many of them migrated to a country called Victoria, the Arknights equivalent of the United Kingdom. This race is known to bring the blood of royalty and prominent figures in politics.

The only aslan character in-game so far is Siege, the leader of a street gang called the Glasgow Gang and the last heir of Victorian royalty. Personally I like how Siege's rough vibe as a gang leader as well as her royalty background kinda matches well with Leona. Even I've seen some fan-artists draw crossover fanarts of them and boy do I need more of them.

Since Leona was twisted from the Lion King, I believe that his referenced species is Panthera leo melanochaita, a sub-species of African lion mainly inhabiting Southern and Eastern Africa where many assumed was the setting where the Lion King take place.

Ruggie Bucchi | Race: Reproba/Rebbah

Reprobas in Arknights are based on hyenas and the can be recognized through traits such as pricked ears and tails with tufts of hair, spots, or stripes. Just like the aslans, they originated from desert area of Sargon as well though many of them ended up spreading everywhere across Terra. They're known to possess knowledge in wilderness survival which is also why many of them are working as mercenaries, biologist, geology researchers, and such.

Since he's twisted from the hyenas of the Lion King, undoubtedly his referenced species would be the spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta).

Jack Howl | Race: Lupo

Lupo is a race based on wolves. Their traits can be noticed by their pricked ears and bushy tails. They originated and mostly found in a country called Siracusa which is Arknights' equivalent of Italy. Siracusan lupos are often associated with mafia-like community, though many of them are also working in other fields.

Now, there are no wolf character in the Lion King and from Jack's unique magic we can see that his wolf form definitely doesn't seem like any African wolves (not to mention that unlike Ruggie and Leona who came from Sunset Savannah, Jack came from Shaftsland). His fur is white and seems thick, indicating that he's most likely a part of wolf species that lives in colder climate. With that in mind, I think the best referenced species for Jack is the Eurasian wolf or common wolf (Canis lupus lupus).
