The Houses as the Seasons

Gryffindor is summer, with the impromptu road trips and sunburns. With the melting popsicles and sizzle of barbecue, with late nights and clear skies full of constellations. Gryffindor is summer because summer happens so quickly that you can blink and miss it. Summer is warm. Summer is furious. Summer is exciting. It’s a time of fireworks and laughter. A time for tank-tops and pool parties. Summer is a time for risk, excitement, and adventure.

Ravenclaw is autumn, with the pumpkins and the start of school. With the crackling leaves and morning frost, with doughnuts, coffee, and ankle boots. Ravenclaw is autumn because autumn is when things begin to change, when one seeks to understand themself and the world around them. Autumn is confusing. Autumn is evolving. Autumn is gentle. It’s a time of soup and cloudy skies. A time for journaling and heavy blankets. Autumn is a time for learning, change, and introspection.

Hufflepuff is winter, with the glistening snowflakes and howling blizzards. With mittens and the steaming mugs of hot chocolate, with holiday vacations and flushed cheeks. Hufflepuff is winter because winter is when people come together and everyone is joyful and full of laughter. Winter is cozy. Winter is cramped. Winter is beautiful. It’s a time for icicles and numb fingers. A time for glowing fireplaces and telling stories. Winter is a time for love, warmth, and coming home.

Slytherin is spring, with the fleeting rainstorms and gentle sunlight. With the windows cracking open for the first time in months and dust being swept from shelves, with fresh grass and feet squishing in the mud. Slytherin is spring because spring is a time for growth, for striving to become something more. Spring is fresh. Spring is desperate. Spring is determined. It’s a time for birdsong and bicycle rides. A time for flowers fighting to unfurl their petals and scarce afternoon shadows. Spring is a time for growing, hope, and turning a new page.

No fashion lover was under the impression that Karl Lagerfeld was a nice person. He was problematic AF, misogynistic, and often said nasty, mean things. He was a fat-shamer and anti-feminist.

He was also a genius who changed fashion with his era-defining designs. His work was the epitome of luxury and glamour. Half of what you wear today was influenced by his work for Chanel.

If you want to call him out for his problematic comments, do it! His work does not make him immune to criticism. He deserves to be remembered as a complicated figure. But to say that he was worthless or that his designs were unimportant is laughably false. Talent and artistry have nothing to do with morals. People can be gifted, influential, and also problematic and nasty. If you ignore that, you ignore the ways in which problematic and harmful views are spread in society.
