The Doctor nodded, a grin growing on his face as he watched his younger self finally get it. It was weird, like looking into a mirror. Except he knew that mirror was wrong and didn’t follow his movements or look like him at all. So not like a mirror. Good gods, he was thinking like humans. Spent too much time around the Ponds in this incarnation, he guessed.
“I like it when we redecorate. Not that you know now, kept the same console from the last regeneration,” He put the screwdriver away, fully cataloging the differences he could remember. “Bowties are cool. And no, we’re about 1200 now, give or take a century,” Oh that was weird, speaking about himself as a ‘we’. “This,” he gestured between the two of them. “Shouldn’t be happening, generally. My… My last companions shouldn’t be here either, but they are. Something- wants us here and I want to know what,” The Doctor paused, eyebrows furrowing. “When are you? Who did you lose last?” Dealing with himself was asking a lot of the Time Lord. Dealing with himself after say, the Donna incident or Rose or oh, even Mars would be asking a little too much. He nodded. “M-hm. Regeneration, never really notice the physical aspects until you’re looking at it.”
“of course i kept the same console, it’s a good one. nice and sturdy, got me through a lot of tough times. you should know. did you change it? oh of course you changed it! you got the whole bow tie thing going on, you’re a big mess of change,” he said. this was very strange, he couldn’t help but be mean to himself, he wanted things to stay the same, he hated the change, he hated losing people and he hated being lonely. he wondered if he was lonely, still. “1200?” he said “huh.. so maybe i don’t die quite that soon,” he said thinking about it. “all the people i’ve met though, know you, and i don’t know any of them.. i know i’m not supposed to know but seeing all these people, seeing you, it’s hard not to wonder how it all plays out,” he said.
“where i was before i got here, i was dropping donna off after suppressing her memories..” h e said thinking about. one of the hardest things he’s ever had to do. donna was wonderful, she saved the universe, yet, she couldn’t remember a thing. he looked back at him now “no, no i suppose the physical aspects get over looked.” he said. “though the face i’m using right now i used twice, i clearly liked it a lot,” he grinned a bit. “so, what shall we do about this?”
