Thunder crashed outside and Rowena groaned.
Why had she ever thought this was a good idea in the first place?
Her sheets were soaked and wrapped around her swollen body like a mummy, hindering her as she tried to get to the bathroom.
She cast a glance at the clock as she struggled to get unwound. 2:04 am. Lightning flashed across the sky outside, illuminating her bedroom momentarily.
The infant in her belly was currently using her bladder for a punching bag, and she waddled as fast as she was able across her bedroom to the toilet, making it just in time.
Being pregnant hadn’t been a picnic when she’d done it the first time at fourteen. It wasn’t any more pleasant at almost fifty, although this baby was almost enjoyable compared to Fergus.
Her firstborn had been a hellion from practically the moment he’d be conceived, wreaking havoc on her body and mind the entire pregnancy. He’d torn her from stem to stern coming into the world, and only her extreme youth had saved her from any lasting effects.
