In 1475 Edward IV requested the return of the exiled Tudor, supposedly to marry him to one of his own daughters. Henry was put aboard a ship at St Malo bound for England but at the last minute he escaped. Later this year, Princess Elizabeth was betrothed to the Dauphin of France. Documents from Margaret Beaufort and from Edward IV exist to prove that Margaret never stopped working to permit the return of Henry’s titles and property, and for him to be allowed safe passage back to Wales. Again, in june of 1482, there was a draft pardon drawn up and discussion of Henry marrying Edward’s eldest daughter Elizabeth of York since the King of France broke the engagement he had made to marry the dauphin to the princess. Henry didn’t accept the offer. In 1483, to strengthen Henry’s claim and unite the two feuding noble houses, Elizabeth Woodville and Margaret Beaufort agreed that the latter’s son should marry the former’s eldest daughter. Henry Tudor in December publicly swore an oath to that effect in the cathedral in Rennes, France. On 1486, King Henry VII married Elizabeth of York

“The consensus among modern commentators is that the first marriage of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn took place on 24 or 25 January 1533. The evidence comes from two witnesses, neither of whom, admittedly, was present at the ceremony. Eustace Chapuys said that it took place ‘on the day of St Paul’s conversion’, i.e. 25 January 1533, and about the time that Dr ‘Bonart’, i.e. Edmund Bonner, came back from Rome, which, as Bonner told his colleague William Benet, was also on 25 January. Thomas Cranmer himself, writing to Nicholas Hawkins in June 1533, seems to agree, saying that Anne ‘was married much about St Paul’s day last’, although ‘I myself knew not thereof a fortnight after it was done’.’” Diarmaid Macculloch,

The first recorded fireworks in England were at the wedding of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York on january 18, 1486. Fireworks gained popularity during the reign of Henry VIII, and by Elizabethan times there was a fireworks master. Queen Elizabeth I created this post so that someone would be in charge of organising firework displays for great occasions. James II even knighted his fireworks master after a particularly excellent show of fireworks at his coronation. (x)

"It is possible that Elizabeth’s cultural influence has been underestimated; the chivalric influence at her husband’s and her son’s court derived from her Burgundian family, and she shared a measure of literary interest with her mother."

"The man stands forth against the background of the Wars of the Roses a curiously modern figure, almost, one might say, the first of the moderns among English monarchs."
