This quote illustrates my goal in life. I believe that this is the ultimate achievement, for it is nigh impossible but just barely achievable. I have tired of living life in fear of the future, so I have taken the initiative to change this fear to excitement. I aim to be mentally prepared for everything life has to offer, including all the ups and downs, lefts and rights. Life is a gift that I lack appreciation for, and I am working to change this. I want to be happy; only then can I inspire happiness in those around me.

This is an excellent reminder that although you are an individual, you are also a part of something larger. It is extremely easy for individuals to get wrapped up in themselves and their own problems, forgetting that there are people around them living their lives as well.

This is probably my favorite quote in the entire book. When one can accept and work with death, that is when you can accept life. I have lived in fear of death for much of my life, but this has shown me a new perspective on dealing with life and death.

About the Author

Mitch Alboom, born May 23, 1958, is an author, screenwriter, musician, playwright, and journalist. He started out as a columnist and wrote sports books for a few years. His first novel Tuesdays with Morrie was his breakthrough in 1997, soon followed by the fictional For on More Day and The Five People You Meet in Heaven. They made it onto the New York Times Best Seller list and were so successful that all three were turned into full films. He has established several successful charity programs for rebuilding in Haiti and caring for the homeless. In 1999, Alboom was awarded the title of National Hospice Organization’s Man of the Year. Recently, he has busied himself with co-writing a play for Tuesdays with Morrie as well as writing a number of songs.

Review

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Alboom is a beautifully written book that really hits home for me. Alboom’s simple style lays things out easily and allows the reader to enjoy an easy-to-read book without having to overanalyze the book’s true meaning. Instead, it offers brilliant ideas about life to inspire the reader and allow space for ponderation. I found myself falling in love with Alboom’s professor, Morrie Schwartz, for his kind soul and appreciation for the gift of life. I would recommend this book to anyone who is lost, confused, in need of inspiration, or just looking for a good read. This non-fiction novel has found itself a special place in my heart along with Albom’s other works.
