For those who have trouble reading that:
Imagine being a black, gay drag queen in the 1800s after being born into enslavement AND having the style and cachè to throw soirées that the girls had to come to! That’s why I don’t want to hear this “we’re not our ancestors stuff.” You’re right!
From The Very Black Project Page- William Dorsey Swann was a gay liberation activist. Born into slavery in 1858, he was the first person in the United States to lead a queer resistance group and the first known person to self-identify as a “queen of drag”. Imagine the queenery of this icon.
He was a slave in Hancock, Maryland and was freed by Union soldiers after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect. During the 1880s and 1890s, he organized a series of balls in Washington, D.C. He called himself the “queen of drag”. Most of the attendees his gatherings were men who were former slaves, and were gathering to dance in their satin and silk dresses. William was arrested in police raids numerous times, including in the first documented case of arrests for female impersonation in the United States, on April 12, 1888. In 1896, he was falsely convicted and sentenced to 10 months in jail for “keeping a disorderly house” (running a brothel). After his sentencing, he requested a pardon from President Grover Cleveland. This request was denied, but but he was the first American on record who pursued legal and political action to defend the LGBTQ community’s right to gather.
He was known to have been close with Pierce Lafayette and Felix Hall, two men who had also both been slaves and who formed the first known male same-sex relationship between enslaved Americans.
When William stopped organizing and participating in drag events, his brother continued to make costumes for the drag community. Two of his brothers had also been active participants in his drag balls.
Imagine how intelligent and ambitious this man had to be to come up with drag balls in the 1800s! Imagine how many terrible concepts he had to unlearn by himself to be a confident gay black man who does drag in the 1800s! Imagine how courageous he had to be to fight for lgbt people as a former slave in America in the 1800s!
William Dorsey Swann is the original queen, the original drag mother, the original activist. Tell his story!

Capitalism.
I kind of want to cry
Global capitalism needs to die.
This is what’s called Alienation of Labour.
that’s fucked up man…
From “First Taste of Chocolate in Ivory Coast”
this is a fantastic example of Marx’s concept of alienation of labour, where the worker is made to produce a cog in a machine they will never see or afford and so they fully lack the ability to point at their product and say “I made that.” It’s incredibly demoralizing to never be able to see the result of your labour
Pretty fucked up that you, personally, reading this post don’t give equal attention to every tragedy that happens on the planet every day. I heard that you, personally sometimes only hear about things that news sources in your specific cultural sphere pick up on. That’s pretty fucked up of you, personally.
what do you mean your levels of compassion don’t exceed far beyond the parameters of what the human brain is capable of? have you considered trying harder? i am now going to misuse the word empathy and will refuse to see anything ironic about any of this.
Ab amazing view on life
A baby pika! Listen to his little cry. Someday it will be much louder.

ok. I’m crying
this is so sweet
“When I was growing up, I never thought I’d want kids. I had a tough childhood. And when you have a tough childhood, it’s hard to believe that a good childhood is even an option. So I didn’t want kids, because I was afraid if I did that they would feel how I felt. I didn’t want anyone to feel the way I felt. And then I got pregnant when I was eighteen, so I made a promise to never let my baby feel that way. A while ago, I gave her my favourite book from my childhood to read, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. It’s about some kids who run away from home and go live in a museum. So one day she’s reading it, and she stops for a moment. And she says, “Mom, I kinda like the book, but I kinda don’t.” I said, “That’s all right, what don’t you like about it?” She said, “I just don’t understand how anyone could want to run away from home.” I said, “You never thought about it?” She said, “Why would I? I have the best mom ever.” So I hugged her and cried. The reason I liked the book was the reason she didn’t! I’m keeping my promise, and just a little reminder: your past doesn’t define you. You can do better, even if you don’t know how yet.”

Can’t believe im an adult now. Sometimes I feel like a teletubbie with a credit card.
in case anyone was wondering, this is Dean Balsamini; the NY Post reporter who doxxed a 23 year old EMT for having an OnlyFans account despite her begging him not to publish the story after he snooped around on her anyway.
aside from trying to make ends meet as an EMT with an OnlyFans gig on the side, she also was working as a part time restaurant host, during a pandemic. this piece of shit reporter went behind her back and informed her employer about her OnlyFans gig. Dean Balsamini and Susan Edelman disregarded the ethics of journalism and published the story as well as the EMT’s name without permission anyway, resulting in a maelstrom of heartache and stress for this 23 year old EMT who has since received death threats and has lived in fear of losing her job—DURING A PANDEMIC.
let Balsamini know how you feel:
A reminder to everyone that outing a sexworker is an act of VIOLENCE as long as we are still fighting for decrim.
My heart goes out to this woman in this horrendous time, especially on today, December 17th: the international day to end violence against sex workers.

Alabama could execute Rocky Myers any day now – and he could be innocent. Governor Ivey must grant Rocky clemency and save him from wrongful
i know my platform is pretty weak and i usually don’t post shit like this but please sign and promote this. first of all, this man is likely innocent, regardless of what you think of the death penalty. second of all, his preventable state sponsored death is imminent and we have a chance to delay it. this man deserves the best possible legal representation and a right to fight for his life.
rocky is an intellectually disabled 53 year old man. the key witness who helped convict him recanted their testimony. the jury who ended up convicting him did not even want a death penalty. there is a likely racial component as well, 11 of the jurors were white—one of them even referred to mr. myers with a horrible racial slur after the conviction.

please give this article a look as well. you don’t have to be a forensic scientist to realize there is something incredibly fishy about this investigation, the multiple other suspects, the political pressure to convict, the biases. this court case is VERY, VERY SUSPECT and he is likely INNOCENT.
The case of an intellectually disabled prisoner on death row is a window into the many flaws in the death penalty in America.
i also want to add— this is free to sign, all you have to give is your name, zip code, email and phone number. thank you so much and please keep signing
