something really rubs me the wrong way when i hear jarpad talking about how dean wouldn't want sam marrying eileen, or how he truly believes dean's ending was good and satisfactory to deans arc.

eileen, a deaf, female, non-stereotypical love interest hunter being thrown out last minute into becoming simply a blur and then "up for interpretation" just reeks of erasure.

its seems to be a pattern of this shows ending just throwing queer & disabled characters existence and tropes "up for interpretation" to silently eradicate their ~temporary~ representation, by the end of the show we've somehow managed to lose every character thats made any growth? for what? shock value?

and then dean, deans character was such a good representation of people who had gone through years of trauma thinking it had corrupted them and that they could never be good, dean was canonically suicidal and was making progress on getting better. even shown later on filling out job applications as a sign of him moving on and towards a better life.

but you know what they did to him? they gave him his "peace" by killing him, which does not give a good message at all, let alone resonate with deans character...

one of the early conversations between castiel and dean is literally castiel telling dean that he will "get his peace in heaven when he dies," and that "this world is temporary," to which dean directly refuses and states that that is not what he wants, which just makes the ending dumber.

i'm tired of being given representation in media, watching it grow, then having it shot down. i'm tired of representation being "up for interpretation" either give it to us or don't. all we ever see is the media use representation as bait and then rip it away to make sure they please the bigots as well.

Found-footage style episode but it’s Jack trying to film their lives for some intro-level film class he’s taking as an elective. It ends up being 45 minutes of following Cas around as he clumsily tries to give a tour of the bunker without exposing them (they spend 15 minutes on the kitchen alone. He goes through all of Dean’s spices). Sam keeps sprinting into the frame to hide suspicious/occult/supernatural things and Dean, who refuses to be filmed but keeps ending up in the same room as them anyway, occasionally shuffles through the background with his hand hiding his face like some sort of cryptid. Jack’s professor declares it a brave piece of art depicting the shame and scrutiny experienced by non-traditional families in America and gives him an A.

one of the most insulting parts of this is that castiel fans never got to properly mourn him because for the past 15 seasons they've been consistently told that death means nothing and main characters will always come back, especially since cas has already returned from the empty once on his own, and there was NOTHING stopping them from making jack bring him back this time, not to mention the way he died was so sudden and opened such a gigantic unfinished plotline that it was simply ludicrous to even consider he could be gone for good so people didnt get a chance to deal with his death or give him (and misha) a proper sendoff and appropriate mourning because there was simply NO WAY that's how cas really dies, right? but turns out yeah they really gave him the dumbest most pointless death ever considering the man he sacrificed himself for died 2 days later anyway. and they couldn't even have his last words stay "goodbye dean", they had him back for a fucking prank call as a sprinkle of some extra bait and it's just. absolutely disgusting
