1st quarter thoughts

My knowledge on media is quite a lot because I have been using media for the past few years. However, there are things that surprised me during our discussion because there are things that I still didn't knew about. I came from a musically inclined family that is why music is and will always be a part of my life. These things are not new to me anymore.

Regardless of my knowledge, I managed to gain more information about media with the help of this subject. I knew that media plays a very important role on our society most especially on our situation right now. It enables us to spread accurate information, use our voice to speak up and stand for what is right, and by influencing others not just the youth, but also to the next generations. I can now say that I am a "media expert" lol, just kidding! I can now say that what I have learned before is not enough and there are still things about media that I need to explore.

This subject taught me to be cautious and be aware of what I should post or read on any social media platforms. Be wise and mindful.

Back then, the indigenous tribes are usually the ones who sends message by their own channel. They manage their own cultural information in order to be understood by the community.

Media have languages to differentiate and to separate the information. There are also codes that means to create meaning for a reader or viewer of the message.

Traditional and Digital: What you should know !!

We all know that traditional media can be an expensive option since it uses television, radio, billboard advertising, newspapers, and magazines. Although these things can cost too much, it has the highest response rate of all media. Easy to test and has creative flexibility. Unlike on digital media, when you stream a video or music, an advertisement pops up. Isn't that annoying? But there are also cons of traditional media that may lead into misinformation. Some can't deliver the message immediately and with a high frequency.

On the other hand, digital media includes everything we see online. Such as facebook, twitter, instagram, and any social media platform. Digital media facilitates social interaction and gives people the power to use their voice to empower the truth. Though this is an easy access because most people are now using the internet, it is quite scary knowing that there could be fake news, frauds, and scams that can lead to misinformation especially when the message is quite misleading.

Most people would probably view the quote positively about life and struggles. Well, in my perspective, I do think that it could also be implied into another meaning in this artwork.

The appearance of a rainbow after every rain is something we do not have control over due to certain conditions. Thus, applying the same logic, we cannot just out someone forcefully when they are still trying so hard to build themselves up just to feel valid and accepted.

We do not define them; they are their own identity. That is the path they have chosen for themselves which do not mind us at all.

If people can find beauty just by looking at the rainbows in the sky, then why can’t they just adore and appreciate the rainbows around them?

DON’T LET YOUR COLORS LOSE THEIR HUES. RAISE YOUR RAINBOWS IN THE SKY.

I noticed that magazine covers with women or men who have sexy bodies tells us how to change our physical appearance or how to hide our imperfections in just days. But in reality, they do not know what we are going through. There are also comedy movies or shows on the television that often uses overweight or underweight jokes as the basis of their storyline.

For years, it has been normal for people to criticize or make fun of someone's physical appearance. Now that I am old and know what is right, I am not just speaking for myself, but also to women and men who are experiencing this. There will never be a good excuse to shame.

Growing up having acne is one of the most difficult thing I am suffering. I even encountered being shamed to the public countless times. I always look at the mirror and tell myself "what happened to you?" Even though I still feel so insecure about my face and body, I am slowly trying to get past all the insecurities and not minding what other people is telling me. In short, loving my own self.

the inevitability of change

Change doesn't just happen in our life but also to media.

- From newspapers, we can now access infromation through articles online by using our laptop, computers, phone, etc. Nowadays, I can rarely see people holding a newspaper on their hand.

- From handwritten love letters to long sweet messages. We can still feel the butterflies whenever we receive these but accepting real love letters, we can feel the sincere love and tenderness.

- From listening to radio stations, we can now listen and watch on television. We can find 24-hour news channels, as well as music videos, documentaries, and reality shows about everything.

Media has been in our life for decades and it evolves as time goes by. We can see how a lot has changed.

I want to share my own graduation quote to all of you;

"In life, changes are bound to happen. After we fall, you stand up, heal, learn, grow, change, and the cycle goes on." :)

Many people know that I am a music enthusiast. When I was 8 years old, I accidentally clicked “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction on YouTube. And because of that, I would never be the person I am today. They made me explore different genres of music and I was able to meet, connect, and even made lots of friends through online. It has been a big part of my life and it is my way to communicate with others by expressing my thoughts and feelings. The message of the song, the loudness, the volume, the tempos, and melodies, it can all convey intensity and power of my emotion, as well as anger, sadness, happiness, excitement, and serenity.

Let me give you an example, the song “One More Light” by Linkin Park. It has a very deep and hauntingly beautiful message. Chester Bennington, a genius that created history but instead of battling the war, he lost and took his life. (RIP, Legend) He tells us that this song is all about dealing with the loss of a loved one is the hardest thing that we are about to go through. This is not just about grieving someone that died because of suicide but in general. This is a warning to others not to ignore the signs when someone is acting different than the usual.

“Who cares if one more light goes out? Well I do…”

- We are all a light to someone else and it would be a big loss they will feel if that light turned off. Communicate if you must. We will never know when it will be the last time we talk to them.

Imagine the power of music that gives us. It is beautiful and it carries different meanings behind it. We listeners are the receiver and the artists are the messengers.
