Drought Conditions 2020 This summer has been one of the driest and hottest summers on record. Many lawns are suffering due to the dry summer conditions. How to fix? More water?! Recently I saw a lawn (pictured here) where there was a patch of green on a lawn otherwise mostly dry lawn. On closer inspection- I realized that the green lawn was right next to the downspout. That patch of lawn got just a bit more moisture than the rest of the lawn- just enough moisture to keep it green in spite of the drought conditions. Most lawns will recover when we receive the fall rains. Watering heavily will also help but will likely increase your water bill. Rainfall is best. Hopefully the fall rains will come soon. Stop and relax for a bit- in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis- spring seems to have arrived a bit earlier than some other years- but we are delaying our start to let people settle down to the reality of physical social distancing and shelter in place rules. We could be out but I think it is important to show solidarity with those who have to stay home- We did do a few lawns before the shutdown in Ontario and we plan to start up again soon- we have seen a couple other companies who have started and are on lawns but we think we can manage a bit of a slowdown. https://bit.ly/33UgMY0

Kennedy Park Burlington -most of the lawn is acceptable- here at park with grandsons- this area near the parking lot is exceptionally weedy and in poor health- playground structures seem to be relatively new- my guess- when construction was completed - new sod was laid between play area and parking- soil beneath the new sod was compacted by construction equipment- soil needs aerating to allow the grass roots from the sod to penetrate into the “native” soil beneath- plantain is thriving because these weeds plants grew up here from seeds- whereas the grass plants were transplanted here from the sod farm where they grew up- Same situation may occur on other lawns when sodding is done- while Turf King recommends core aerations be some yearly- aeration is particularly important on newly sodded grass http://bit.ly/2mGGjTd
