while my mom was pregnant with me, she was delivering chinese food on bike in new orleans. i like to think that the music she heard in the streets made me the way i am now.
happy new year everyone!
When frankenstein's creature said accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust? And when Judas said why didn't you make me good enough so that you could've loved me? And when wych elm said why did you do this to me? I was your baby. You made me. But then sophokles said, i am the shape you made me, filth teaches filth.

"What you people want?" | "Just a couple more minutes of your time, about the same duration as the rest of your life." Near Dark (1987) dir. Kathryn Bigelow
When I was your age, I'd get angry all the time⦠you know? Kids thought it was funny, so they'd steal my things and push me around. I was kind of small. So I'd get angry and⦠and hit somebody. Teachers would get mad. You know, they never saw what the other kids did. Everybody thought I was⦠terrible, even Smurf. I guess maybe I was pretty awful. The only person that was nice to me was my sister. Your dad was the second. And then your mom. I promised them I was gonna take care of you and I'm gonna do that, okay?
POPE & LENA Animal Kingdom (2016-2022)
You didnāt do shit for me and my mom, and she was your sister.
Be not afraid by Ellie Black
I am mourning the fact that we never got any Cath flashbacks, especially while rewatching Season 1 and remembering all the little bits of lore sprinkled in. They really let us lick the spoon and then just threw the batter in the trash. I mean
Pope and Cath's friendship. Cath at one point being VERY attached to Pope. SHOW ME. I want to see that bond forming, growing, being strained, and then breaking. Especially if the strain was because Pope got too intense. Like I want Cath to start opening up, becoming independent, and maybe flirting with Baz juuuust a touch.... And then Pope(in a panic over possibly losing His Person, the only one after Julia was gone who didn't treat him like a loaded gun, scared to death of being alone again, and pushing boundaries because he sure never was allowed any) tries to hold on to her tighter and winds up pushing her away completely. Please, just a crumb of that pain and frustration and overwhelm and loneliness. I beg.
Smurf sending Pope out to kill Cath's parents??? And Baz being in on it??? Hello???
The Pope/Cath hookup. AFTER LENA WAS ALREADY BORN. Are you kidding??? Those are some good, fresh ingredients right there. Pope feeling like the sun is finally shining on him. Cath wanting to bury it and keep playing house with a man who's hardly ever in said house.
Cath vehemently refusing to live on any of the properties owned by Smurf despite the financial strain. Because she didn't want Smurf to have unlimited access to her family. Because a home of her own was the last bit of refuge she could take and the only piece of normalcy she could provide for Lena. This potential was doubly wasted when they decided to retcon it in Season 6 and make the condo a bribe from Smurf to Baz to stay away from Julia. Come on, man.
Cath "briefly knowing" Julia. However briefly, catching a glimpse of what happens to the women who pose a threat in Smurf's eyes. Seeing visions of what her own fate may be, (But then maybe convincing herself that that'll never be her. Because she's figured out how to play the game and Julia just didn't. She knows better.) and then staying. And then having Julia's eyes haunt her every time she almost packs a bag, only to shove it back in the closet.
Season 6 should have been Cath and Julia's season. It was supposed to be, I feel. Like the whole idea of the final season is the family being undone by its two greatest sins. But then Cath only gets a couple sentences and a skeleton. And Julia just gets some pretty lackluster scenes. Oh but sure, Baz can come back to Pope as a hallucination. Just Baz, though. Right, right.
