This is why I don’t like the animation of the new season of One Punch Man.

It’s not ugly. It’s lazy.

I cannot imagine how much of a bitch it is to animate Genos’ arm. But the first season managed just fine (understatement, it was fucking wonderful).

The animation of the new season didn’t even try. It used a bunch of unnecessary blurs, effects and off-putting colors to distract the audience, hoping that we won’t notice that Genos’ whole arm was missing on this scene.

Chapter 115 is colored

I noticed that the SCNK just finished their colorization of chapter 115. I don’t know if there’s been an official post about it, but it’s absolutely stunning. Mad props to the artists who worked on this! Please take a look.

When certain controversial/backlash moments (serum bowl, Marley arc, Gabi killing Sasha, Historia's pregnancy, etc.), do you think the anime-onlies' reaction will be tamer compared to when it was just the manga? Or do you think it will still be bad if not worse since anime-onlies seem to focus more on the action and battles?

Following a monthly manga is murder. The serum bowl will be maybe two weeks of the anime viewer’s life. We lived it for months. Controversial moments may be somewhat impactful but the anime viewers have the advantage of being able to quickly move to the next episode, the next drama, the next scene.

I do wonder what the reaction to the Marley Arc will be. I think it was smart for the anime team to hint at Marley in season two with Ymir’s flashback and RBA’s attack on Marco. At least they won’t feel quite the whiplash we did. But I am worried just the same. It took time for manga readers to warm up to the Marley characters. This is one case where maybe time was a benefit. For the anime viewer I suspect they’ll spend most of each 20 minute episode feeling confused and wondering when the 104th will appear. Where we had a month between each chapter to think about the new characters, they’ll be dealing a whole new cast, plot, and world in 20 minute spurts. I doubt they’ll feel the same attachment or understanding of the characters that we do.
