☆ How does this fest work? On the 12th September 2026, the ao3 collection will approve any fics, and this Tumblr will reblog any posts made that showcase the work created for this event. Feel free to share any progress in the meantime!
☆ Where can I post? On Ao3 or Tumblr!
☆ Will there be an Ao3 collection? Yes! Since I've made this blog with plenty of time (currently writing this on 22/03/2026) to allow people to have a lot of time to create whatever they want, I will be making a collection closer to the fest date. When I do, I will link it here and on the introductory post, too.
☆ What media can I create? Anything is allowed! If you want to write a fic, poetry, or even just bullet points of your ideas. You can make art: physical or digital. You can make edits, both video and photos. This is not a fest just for writing, but rather for any creative media!
☆ Can I make something that is NSFW? Yes, you can! Any themes and topics are welcome, but please ensure that you are tagging your work correctly and you give any necessary warnings. If a work does not have the appropriate warnings in a post, it will not be reblogged on this account.
☆ How much of an influence does the video game need to have on my work? It can be as little or as big as you would like! You can take major plots from the game, or just a certain scene! You can take character inspiration, or just create a farming au based on a farming sim. The possibilities are endless. As long as it is clear that you have taken some inspiration from a video game, then you are all good!
☆ How accurate does my work have to be in relation to the video game? Following the previous question, it can be as accurate as you want, or hardly accurate at all! Once again, as long as the inspiration and video game connection is clear, you're good! This is not a high-pressure fest, and so the work is in your hands, and you are free to use that however you want!
☆ Does my work have to be finished on the 12th? Nope! Wips and unfinished work are welcome, I understand that sometimes finishing work can be a big ask. If you want to post/upload the start of your piece on the 12th and finish it at a later date, that is fine! Bullet points, sketches, first chapters, anything is welcome. All levels of completion will be accepted into the collection/shared on the blog.
☆ Can I post on Tumblr/to the collection after the 12th? Yes, of course! I will try my best to share any work posted after the 12th and will continue to do so until the fest restarts next year (That depends on how it goes this year tbh lol, we shall see if people want to do this again next year!)
☆ Is there a minimum word count? Nope! As stated, you can add as much or as little as you would like. The equivalent for other media (such as digital art, edits, physical media) is the same! Post as much or as little as you want.

Wants to feel as reassured as his own words were meant to sound. Instead, all he feels is caught out, an uneasy sense of guilt trickling down his spine. Because Carlos is indeed not here. There’s an empty space where he should be, where he belongs, joining Lando at this sponsor event. Like they’ve been doing for each other for the past two years. Showing up for each other as go-to dates. But Lando hasn’t heard from him at all. Not since… Well. Not since he had to open his stupid mouth and put his fucking foot in it.

Tiny Ways to Make Characters Feel Real Without Info-Dumping
We don’t need a five-paragraph backstory. We need texture.
1. Hint at depth — don’t prove it. Instead of telling us she had a rough childhood: “Her sleeve slid up, revealing the tattoo she never explained.”
2. Give them contradictions. People aren’t neat. A pacifist who snaps. A leader who overchecks his reflection. A cynic who keeps a lucky charm.
3. Let side characters breathe. Give even the one-scene shopkeeper a quirk: “The baker spoke in a whisper like every word cost him coin.”
4. Make habits matter. Not “He was nervous,” but: “He thumbed the frayed seam of his pocket again, again, again.”
5. Tie perception to personality. Someone anxious doesn’t see a forest; they see shadows between trees. Someone nostalgic sees the same forest but softer, full of memory.
How to Describe Without Pausing the Story Dead
Description is strongest when it’s moving.
1. Anchor description in action. Instead of: “The tavern was dim and crowded.” (pause) Try: “She shoulder-checked through the dim tavern, lanternlight slanting across sweat and spilled ale.”
2. Only describe what your character notices. A thief notices exits. A poet notices colours. A soldier notices threats.
3. Mood colours setting. Waiting for bad news? “The sun felt sharp, too bright, like it was watching.”
4. Don’t aim for a full picture — aim for the right details. “A single bootprint in the ash.” Tells a whole story.
Subtle Writing Techniques To Help Make Your Writing Pop
Just little tweaks that level your writing.
1. Use natural actions to foreshadow. Not: “Little did she know the knife would be important later.” But: “Her gaze snagged on the drawer — then she looked away.”
2. Use symbolism instead of clichés. If you hate the metaphor “time was running out”: Plant broken clocks. Or a street performer counting down songs.
3. Trust ambiguity. Real life rarely explains itself. Let readers make theories.
4. Repeat themes in different places. If the story’s about trust, show it in: • a broken promise • a character avoiding eye contact • a shaky hand passing a key
5. Change sentence rhythm to match the scene. Fight scene? Short, sharp lines. Grief scene? Slow, heavy, lingering.
