Sasuke faltered, tripping over his own feet as the owner of the voice he should have recognized popped up from behind the counter, guitar in hand. Recognition flashed across his face, “Wow. It really is you.”"
Or: six months after his parents' death, Sasuke is sent back to Konoha.
- The fic that inspired me to make another masterlist. This reads like a book. It's nuanced, complex, and does soo much justice to Sasuke's grief, while also serving as a coming-of-age summer love story. Chef's kiss.
2. Mundane, Gentle by KinomiAkai
They don’t really know how to do this, do they? They’ve never done it before—live in peace, like this. Written for SNSmonth25 prompt #9: gentle touches.
-Does KinomiAkai need an introduction? I don't think so. This is perfect.
3. The Earth Doesn't Move by mostlyharmless
Years after Sasuke has come home to the village, he still doesn't really fit in very well. Naruto thinks maybe it's his turn to wait for the olive branch. All the ramen is an added bonus.
-What I loved about this one was how sweet and domestic it felt. I think the author made an effort to make sure the readers know Sasuke and Naruto are still getting to know each other despite how familiar they are, so there's some awkwardness and small, clarifying conversations between them.
4. everywhere, everything by moonwonder for Solmussa
"No matter what, I’m always coming home to you."
Sasuke Uchiha and the Five Stages of Falling in Love.
-This one has a bit of a timeskip after Shippuden. Sasuke is, as always, yearning and just a bit jealous. Sweet too!!
5. Between Villages, Everything Is Still by Serendipity_Stupidity
If some doomsayer were to foresee Naruto Uzumaki’s downfall at the hands of ink and parchment, he would have rolled his eyes. Maybe cuffed Sai around the back of the head, for good measure.
The reality is far more cruel, and far more mundane.
Over four years, there are a series of letters. They are sent by the only person capable of bringing him to his knees. The words alone are enough to ruin him.
Now, if you were to tell him that; he would have believed you.
-This fic encapsulates the reason I love this ship so much. The pushing and pulling, the enormity of the passion, the longing between them, all can be read through EVERY paragraph. There are letters to be read and feelings to be unburied with this one.
6. I would die for you in secret by schnidde for Seb_07zz
Naruto lifted his chin briefly for a moment and whispered, almost tentatively, “My life is mine to risk” into the silence of the library.
“Is it?”, Sasuke breathed softly. The words were more breath than anything else.
“As I said”, Sasuke continued, his voice growing lower and rougher, with an undertone that bordered dangerously close to longing but still sounded almost regal, “you disobey your commander’s orders.”
“So it seems the prince himself has to give you orders.” - The atmosphere shifted, so rapidly and so inevitably that it practically hurt and robbed him of his breath, “And you will obey them - you will obey me.
-Devotion, LUST, drama, love, passion, forbidden love, and medieval AU. With this one, we feast.
7. The Domestication of Uchiha Sasuke by peachysoy (Restricted)
The third time Naruto came home from a mission to find Sasuke in his house, he didn’t even bother pretending to look guilty. He was seated at the table, dark head bowed over a bowl of Naruto’s favorite cereal, and wearing his froggy house slippers. He gave Naruto the briefest of glances, pushing his overgrown bangs back to reveal a flash of violet, and then returned to eating.
“Hey.” Naruto said, shucking his shoes off. Then, impulsively. “I’m home.”
“You’re out of cereal.” Sasuke said, eating it.
Through hard work and dedication, all things are possible. Or, Sasuke moves back to Konoha and learns how to be a functioning member of society, thanks to Naruto's constant pestering.
-More domesticity, and Sasuke being... HUMAN. He has flaws and much to learn, but thankfully, he and Naruto can do that together. This is a palate cleanser if you've been reading angst.
8. diplomatic relations and relationships of diplomacy by egotistica
Sasuke Uchiha is handling this diplomatic mission to Suna perfectly fine, thank you. So what if he and Naruto got into a stupid argument? So what if Gaara keeps fawning over Naruto like a lost puppy? So what if Sasuke accidentally overhears a confession on a balcony and makes it his life's mission to be as miserable as possible over it?
It’s hot. He’s tired. He’s not jealous.
(He is absolutely jealous.)
9. swimming against the current by GODZILLA90095
Sasuke doesn't have much interest in other people, so he chooses the biggest slacker in class as his lab partner in the hopes that he'll let him do all the work with minimal interaction. Biggest, best mistake of his life.

The auto shop mechanic knocked the kickstand of his motorcycle down with the heel of his sneaker. He had pale blond eyelashes and a full mouth, wrinkled white t-shirt tight around his arms, jeans over big thighs. No edges. Loud in both volume and presence. Sasuke fidgeted with his hands inside his pockets.

-I've probably read this at least ten times since it was posted.

“I’m not getting married” He says, plain and soft.
Naruto’s eyes narrow, his voice getting the edge of self-righteousness that always makes Sasuke want to give up the ghost before he’s forced to.
“Then - then what’s the point, Sasuke?” He snaps.
He’s unsure if Naruto wants an answer. He doesn’t have one. There isn’t a point to any of it. What is meant to do with the rest of his life. Settle? Become a jounin? His stomach turns at the thought. A rejection of the only part of himself Naruto allowed him to keep.
Naruto’s eyes harden, as though this is some scheme of Sasuke’s. The same look in his eyes as when he threatened to end the world, given to him in a kitchen after a baby shower while he’s holding a fucking comically oversized lollipop pacifer, wrapped in a bowtie.
“I mean you love her right?” Naruto sneers.
His shoulders set, it sounds like an accusation and it hurts because he’s right.
He doesn’t.
-I took a long breath after reading this one. It was painful, but it hurt in all the right ways.

Maybe if they keep at this all night, Naruto can finally beat him. Training together has been a constant reminder that Sasuke is ahead of him in all regards, but Naruto has the benefit of persistence; he can always outlast.
-Fighting is like kissing for them, and I love/hate them for it. Unreleased sexual tension.
15. WIN CONDITION/LOSE CONDITION by jinchuuriki (naturecalls111)
Sasuke's never really babysat anyone before, but he's pretty sure it doesn't usually involve being taunted by a kid in front of your crush.
or: Sasuke Uchiha vs. the World, where Sasuke must defeat Naruto's 7 evil board games to get into his pants.
-This concept was so funny and creative. I loved it soo much!! I chuckled like an idiot.

Naruto is at his lowest when Sasuke tells him "come find me". It slowly becomes clear to him that following Sasuke is something he doesn't need, but wants to do.
-I kiss the floor kintou walks on.

(...) Then he sighs, walks back, and yanks the blanket up over Naruto’s legs. Stares down at him for a long second—at the way his cheek is squished against the pillow, at the way his hair sticks up in five different directions, at the suspicious crumb stuck to the corner of his mouth.
Sasuke clenches his fists in the blanket and mimes punching him in the face, fast and quick, just enough to imagine the satisfaction.
Naruto doesn’t even twitch.
“Idiot,” Sasuke mutters under his breath, dropping the blanket and shaking his head as he walks out the door.
-I cut the description short for this one! But PLEASE, DON'T MISS IT! It's my favorite from this list. There are so many things I love about it, but I don't want to go into details either altough there's not a lot to spoil. I guess the author wrote it so it evoked this one feeling I won't mention. Idk, I think it is perfectly written. All I will say is that Naruto is a singer, and I'm a sucker for creative AUs.
18. dirty laundry by earthtodora
They were roommates in college. Best friends, until one drunken night changed everything.
Seventeen years later, Sasuke is divorced and his daughter is staying with him for the school year. He hasn't spoken to Naruto since college graduation.
Then, Sarada brings home her new boyfriend, and suddenly, the past Sasuke has been running from is sitting right in his living room.
-Poor Boruto and Sarada are stuck in their parents' mess. I love how this is a fic that respects all characters and deals with family dynamics in a mature fashion. Also, tons of longing, as expected.
19. Slow and Furious by Miasen for MyThoughtBubbles
Two decades after the zombie outbreak eradicated most of the world Naruto and Sasuke spend their lives hunting the undead or fucking each other. It's not a bad life, but things might change soon.
-Action and passion can never go wrong. 10/10. I love AU's.
20. Work For It by lalazee for mrhd
Sasuke swallows. Those dark lashes drop, his attention falling to Naruto’s mouth. Naruto smiles in reply, but he feels predatory more than playful now. Can’t help it. He has been chasing Sasuke for so long that it’s second nature. To bring him down, down to his level, and heel him with teeth and a strong hand.

-Plot, mystery, creativity, yearning, interesting character dynamics, etc. This author knows how to spoil us.

Sasuke only returns to Naruto's apartment when hurt, bleeding out or charka deprived. He never stays. What even is there for him in that run down place? Even better: what the hell is Naruto still doing there?
In which Sasuke keeps asking Naruto what he wants, but he ends up getting more than he bargained for

Rice Village said the sign, in faded, peeling letters. Behind the group of villagers was a fence of bamboo and further on, scattered minka—old, rural-style houses with thatched, gabled roofs. Front and centre was Naruto, wearing his trademark orange and a huge grin. Still boyish and round, he couldn't have been more than eighteen.
A rice farmer. Naruto was a rice farmer.
(Or, the AU where Sasuke returns after eight years away to discover that Konoha has changed, Naruto is a surprisingly adept rice farmer, and he may have missed him a lot more than he thought.)

“I can’t believe you’re here,” Naruto blurts. The words spill out unbidden but he’s too foggy to stop them. He can’t see Sasuke’s face clearly in the dark, but he feels the silence that follows.
“It’s been a while,” Sasuke says, after a beat.
“It’s been two years.”
“Not the longest I’ve been gone.” Sasuke turns slightly, face catching the moonlight. His expression is impassive, save for the slight divot between his brows. “Your point?”
(They talk about it, finally. It's been a long time coming.)
