The more I interact with the Japanese fandom of xlov, the more I realize many of them (not all) only think of xlov as "pretty guys who dress fem" and completely ignore the queerness that they show. Saying that it's strange that xlov has a lot of openly queer fans.

some queer japanese evols say that showing up with flags and expressing ourselves at xlov concerts makes them feel "uncomfortable" and that "I'm queer myself but i don't want it pushed on to me" which makes me feel like many of these people have internalize queerphobia.

Japan itself is a very homophobic country. even if the LGBT movement is getting better. it doesn't change the fact that Japan is a conservative country and people here are taught from a young age that not being the "norm" and having individuality should be viewed as something negative.

I hate it that even in queer spaces in Japan people still have these beliefs and indirectly hurt the community.

tbf the idea that they are just pretty guys probably comes from the vkei scene. lots of japanese ppl are probably quite used to seeing (supposedly) cishet guys presenting entirely feminine as part of their art or brand so xlov probs dont seem like much by comparison.

this combined with the fact that lots of these vkei dudes are queerphobic probably contributes to some japanese ppl not viewing xlov as intrinsically queer as well as not viewing their own potential queerphobia as a barrier to enjoying xlov as a group.

this makes a lot of sense now that you mentioned it.

I don't know much about vkei dudes but I know people mention them and I sometimes see them in Japanese entertainment.

The ones that I know of are mostly doing it for work (presenting feminine as a part of their brand and art like you mentioned) and not really touch any queer aspects like xlov does.

Which makes sense that they think xlov is just another group who dresses feminine.
