HELL YEAH CASSANDRA YOU GO GIRL‼️‼️ (I don’t wanna see what would happen when she tries her first monster 😭)
You wouldn’t think that flamingoes are extremophiles just from looking at them. It’s like somebody tried to build the vertebrate equivalent of that fungus that lives inside nuclear reactors, and ended up with a gangly pink dinosaur with a spoon for a face.
For everyone in the comments asking how flamingos are extremophiles:
Flamingos can survive in low oxygen, high altitude, high temperatures, low temperatures, high alkaline, they can and will drink boiling water and they can be completely frozen at night and still get up the next morning
Don’t fuck with flamingos
….. Didn’t know most of that
Huh… so that’s why zoos don’t put them somewhere warm during winter.
Oh yeah, this leaves out what I *did* know about them–they can also survive hypersalinity. That is, water so salty it kills practically everything else–water so salty it burns your skin.
American flamingos just drink that shit
(animal death) this is a real undoctored photograph (*though the body was stood up for the shot) of a dead flamingo on the surface of lake natron, a lake so salty and so alkaline that it’s naturally carbonated like soda and would eat through your stomach lining if you drank from it.
When this photo went viral years ago, most people assumed this poor flamingo must have been killed by the lake.
It is actually the lake where 75% of its global population are hatched. This is a photo from the same lake:
Some species of flamingo actually subsist almost entirely on a diet of bacteria! In other words, there is a species of dinosaur that eats only bacteria and lives in lakes so toxic they would kill almost anything else—and it is best known to the average person as a kitschy lawn decoration.

RATING: RELIABLE
Flamingos can survive in high altitudes, hypersaline conditions, and caustic lakes.
Source: ‘All flamingo species have evolved to live in some of the planet’s most extreme wetlands, like caustic “soda lakes”, hypersaline lagoons or high-altitude salt flats.’
They can survive water so alkaline it burns human skin.
Source: ‘More than a million lesser flamingos breed in Tanzania’s Lake Natron, for instance, a lake fed by hot springs with water so alkaline that it can strip away human skin (one pioneering flamingo researcher named Leslie Brown spent months in Nairobi General Hospital after burning his legs wading out to observe where the birds nested).’
They can drink water at near-boiling temperatures.
Source: ‘They can drink water at near boiling point to collect freshwater from springs and geysers at lake edges. If no freshwater is available, flamingos can use glands in their head that remove salt, draining it out from their nasal cavity.’
The lakes they inhabit can freeze overnight, and the flamingos can survive once it thaws in the morning.
Source: ‘The birds may seem to epitomize the tropics, but they also live in the Andes, 15,000 feet above sea level, where they rest on lakes that freeze around them overnight.
“You’ll see them sitting there like snowballs, frozen on ice,” Dr. Arengo said. “And as the temperature warms up, they thaw out, fluff themselves up and go about their business.”’
The photo is indeed from Lake Natron, taken by photographer Nick Brandt. The content of the lake chemically preserves animal corpses that die there. You can see more photos of this here.
It is also true that 75% of Lesser Flamingos are hatches on Lake Natron.
Source: ‘The lake’s landscape is surreal and deadly—and made even more bizarre by the fact that it’s the place where nearly 75 percent of the world’s lesser flamingos are born.’
Some species of Flamingo eat cyanobacteria or algae.
Source: ‘Flamingos have very specialised diets. And their food is responsible for their famous pink colouration. The two species in Planet Earth II eat a lot of floating microscopic algae, which contains carotenoid pigments, the same types of chemical that make carrots orange. These pigments turn their feathers pink, orange and red – without them, flamingos would be white.’
… @todaysbird ??
yeah they’re just like that
information that is also important
I love when there's characters that are pair bonded and you know that wherever one of them is the other is also gonna be there.
Not necessarily romantic (either in the text or through a shipping lense). Yeah this is my guy don't split us up. No particular reason.
tumblr will see a pathetic little fool composed of vengeance and tomfoolery and instantaneously respond with:

You’ve waiting 45 minutes to buy a pair of batteries but the dude at the Hinobi store is not paying attention
stupid boy😔
embarrassing stories of your glitch techs go!
Okay so basically this will get long. And most of these aren't THAT embarrassing but uh yeah.
Miko:
The reason why her hair was Like That is because of some freak accident involving Nica, scissors, & a Bowl. This happened when she was 4 so her hair grew out of the bowl cut & turned into a hime cut (with Mayumi's supervision) after some time.
The reason it's embarrassing is because she joked that her sister threw a knife at her & she cut half of her hair and she had to cut off the rest of it. Classmates knew it was a joke but she was weird & talked weird & dressed weird so they all decided to 'believe her' to the point Miko was annoyed and a her teacher had to publicly address the class to 'Stop Doing That' while Miko was behind him bcs she was embarrassed to hell and back.
Zahra:
BUDS episode party. Do I need to elaborate?
Haneesh:
He's a little person so when he and his family were going to the airport for a family vacay, he got lost. Some of the staff couldn't believe that he was 12 and when he reached into his pockets to get his passport, he forgot his mom has everyone's passports. Cue the most embarrassing, patronizing, and agonizing 14 minutes of his life, waiting for his family to realise the 'Five year old Indian boy wearing blah blah blah' that was blaring on the PA was him.
Nix:
Nix hooked up with an identical twin from outside of work. Nix saw 'them' at Hinobi and thought they were a worker too and they just haven't met before. Quickly learned that was not the case when he saw both of them together in the mall and connected the dots.
Bergy:
Tried to ask Blake out (the cashier at Mama Miyamoto's) but got comically stopped by multiple events (glitch attack, lunch with family, rainstorm, ect) & Blake saw him after her shift looking like a wet dog. She gave him her umbrella.
Mitch:
Stubbed his toe and shrieked (it was like 2 octaves higher than his actual voice). It's embarrassing because Simi was going into the lounge when Mitch stubbed his toe and she used a speed boost to run away so he couldn't erase her memory.
Five:
Got his bi awakening when he saw a customer and was distracted from making the taco so their food was burnt lol.
I got bored and made a Mikey wallpaper. Is it good?
And if you have a request for a wall paper just comment or ask. I'm bored and need amth to post abt.
I am learning to imagine the future:
My sycamore tree began life in the gravel at the edge of a parking lot. If trees can feel pain, that is a painful, unlucky death. I carefully dug it up and put it in a pot I made out of a disposable cup.
Hello small one. This world may be cruel, but I will not be.
I decided to take care of it, not expecting it to survive, and when my sycamore tree unfurled one tiny leaf and then another, it chiseled a tiny foothold in my terrified brain, the kind of brain that doesn't remember a world before the atomic bomb and before 9/11.
I googled the lifespans of trees. My neurons had to stretch and expand to accommodate what I learned: My sycamore tree may live five hundred years. It's hard to think something so big. In twenty years, my baby sycamore tree will be three stories tall, and the home of many creatures. In five years, my sycamore tree will be taller than I am. In one year, it will be summer.
There's this concept called sense of foreshortened future where people who have lived through trauma can't conceptualize a future for themselves because deep down they don't expect to survive, When I look forward, all I see is fire and death, melting ice and burning sky. We were raised Evangelical. All we see is Judgment Day, except there is no heaven.
But now there is a tiny gap in the wall, a crack in the door of my cell
and on the other side, I see a tree
There is, in the future, a great old sycamore tree, full of clean winds and the stir of a thousand wings. A hundred years from now. Fifty years from now. There will be forests in that world. There will be a world.
It takes courage, but we have to imagine it.
Most tree species can live in excess of three or four hundred years. I think I'm learning something. I think there are ancient voices saying hello small one, touch the dirt and the leaves, for now you are part of something that cannot die
in 2030 I will be thirty years old and the world will not have ended and there will still be hummingbirds, and we will have photos of the stars more beautiful than we can now imagine.
I planted an Eastern Redcedar; they may live nine hundred years. There will be nine hundred years. The people in that time will remember us. Maybe we will meet the aliens (hi aliens!).
I will blow out the candles on many birthday cakes in a world where there are wolves in dark forests far from home. I am learning to imagine the future. I learned recently that elk were reintroduced to the Appalachian Mountains after over a hundred years of extirpation, and that they are expanding their range.
That tiny crack I can see through now opens a tiny bit more:
Maybe elk will pass through my hometown, maybe there will be a forest where the pasture is on the high hill that I can see from my home
say it, say it, say it: ten years, thirty years, a hundred years from now
I am learning to imagine the future. There is a crack in the wall of this prison, of this machine, of this darkness, and through it, I see a tree.
today
Glitch Techs but it's just glitch.
And now I can give a definitive answer as to how many times 'glitch' is said in the show (excluding flashbacks). I even accounted for multiple people speaking at once to be sure I had the right number.
The word 'glitch' (or it's variants ('glitchy', 'glitched' and 'glitching') has been said a grand total of:
404 times
I… I don’t know 😔
