Hi everyone! I'm TWDObsessive and I've spent the last decade writing fan fiction on Ao3. I'm hopeful that the site remains open and free to all of us, but with the recent election events in the U.S. we can't take it for granted that we'll retain all our current freedoms. Women, LGBTQ, POC, Migrants and more have just been told they are second class citizens. Writing is how I process things. So I created a chat room where those of us who need it can talk about our feelings and fears on the the coming dictatorship. Stages of Shipping Rickyk

Stage one: This Daryl Dixon is pretty damn hot.

Stage two: This Rick Grimes (now that he's out of his hospital gown and has some sexy stubble) is pretty damn hot.

Stage Three: my favorite scenes are ones with Rick and Daryl because they are my favorite characters.

Stage Four: Did you see the way they look at each other?

Stage Five: Did you see the way they can read each other?

Stage Six: Did you see the way Rick said "I need you"?

Stage Seven: Looking on Pinterest for pics of Rick and Daryl together. Hmmm...this pic has the word Rickyl in it. What's a Rickyl? This seems important. I better google it.

Stage Eight: Holy Jesus! Daryl just offered his life up to save Rick!!!

Stage Nine: Fan fiction? Wait- there's a place I can read stories about what I think is REALLY going on between these two? I'm in!

Stage Ten: Wait- there's a place I can actually WRITE stories about what I think is going on between these two? I'm in.

Stage Eleven: Hours spent staring at Rickyl fan art and Rickyl YouTube medleys.

Stage Twelve: Watching a new episode and forgetting that they aren't actually doing it in canon.

I’m trying to dive back into writing. I’ve been a fairly prolific Rickyl writer for years and am now wading into Destiel fics. Trying to decide what to work on next and scribbled this down. Would anyone read this if I finished it? It’s a Rickyl and Destiel combo.

Stand By Me

“Want to see a dead body?” Daryl asked as he skipped a smooth river rock across the lake.

“Why on earth would we want to see a dead body?” Rick asked at the same time Dean said. “Fuck you, Dixon. You don’t know where a dead body is.”

“Fuck I don’t,” Daryl said with his chest puffed up. “Heard Merle talking to a friend of his last night.”

“Merle kill him?” Dean asked.

Cas rolled his eyes. “Merle didn’t kill anyone.”

Rick tossed a rock into the water without even trying to skip it.

“I know right where it’s at,” Daryl insisted. “Ten miles down the tracks. It’s probably already got maggots. It’s probably too gross for you pussies anyway. Probably throw up.”

“Winchester’s don’t puke,” Dean said as he half-heartedly tossed a rock in Daryl’s direction.

“What do you want to do with a dead body anyway?” Rick asked.

Daryl shrugged. “Poke it with a stick,” he said at the same time Cas said “I guess we can poke it with a stick.”

“Why?” Dean asked.

Cas shrugged. “Make sure he’s really dead, duh.”

“You dumbass,” Daryl snapped. “Course he’s dead. He’s been laying out in the summer sun for three days. You know why there ain’t been no flies out? Cause the’re all down the road!?”

“Dixon, why you gotta always yell everything you say? I’ve never once heard you talk in a normal tone of voice.”

“You wanna hear yelling? You shoulda heard all the yelling when I was railing your mom last night.

Before Dean could stand all the way up, Cas put a hand on his chest. “He’s just trying to bait you and you fall for it every time.”

“So’s your face,” Dean grumbled as he sat back against the fallen log behind them. Cas was right. Every black eye Dean ever had was from Daryl Dixon. The four of them had been best friends since elementary school but with Dean and Daryl both being hotheads, there were more than their share of fights.

“My dad would kill us if we poke a dead guy with a stick,” Rick said, his hair so far past a much needed haircut that Curls had started forming.

“But if we find him, we can tell ole’ Shariff Dad what we found and we can split the reward money,” Daryl said.

“How do you know there’s a reward?” Cas asked. “That sounds made up.”

“You sound made up,” Daryl snarked back.

Finally Dean stood up, tossed a rock in the lake and turned around. “School starts in less than a week. We haven’t done a damn thing all summer. What are we gonna write on our “what did you do this summer” essays.”

“You really wanna write that you poked a dead guy with a stick?”

“No!” Dean shouted. “I want to write that four brave boys from across the tracks solved a murder and were heros.”

“10 miles is a long way,” Cas said as he squinted up at the train tracks that went ove the nearby bridge.”

Rick stood up. He knew why Daryl wanted to go. It would take them overnight and he wouldn’t have to go home to his abusive old man for at least two day.

“I’m going,” Rick said and put his fishing gear in his backpack.”

“Fine I’ll go but only to prove Dixon’s wrong, “ Dean said.

“Great! We’re all going!”

“I didn’t say I was going,” Cas protested.

Rick and Daryl rolled their eyes. “Please, Novak. You go anywhere Dean goes.

“What’s that supposed to mean,” Cas asked scowling.

I was not at the panel today but came across an audio recording from the panel. Here is the transcript from that question. I wanted to be as true as possible to what I heard so I included Jensen’s stutters, only cutting out when he says “um” as a filler. I also put italics around words he sounds like he is very carefully choosing and/or emphasizing. Also, quotes around “resolution” when it sounds like he’s doing that thing where you repeat the question in your answer.

Q: How do you see Cas’s return to Supernatural and how would you like Cas’s confession to be resolved?

J: Confession to be resolved. Ok, starting out with a banger. I - I don’t - I don’t necessarily know Cas’s confession needs to be “resolved” cause I don’t think there’s anything to necessarily “resolve” about it. I think he gave - he gave a confess- or he gave his - his testament and his - his speech to Dean at the end there, which was I think a long time coming. And - and it was beautiful and it was heartfelt and it was true and it was raw and it was real. And so I- I- I- I don’t- I don’t necessarily think that there needs to be some “resolution” to- to that. I think- I think Dean took that in, I think he lost one of his closest allies, one of his best friends in that moment. And he understands that- that Cas loved him. And, that’s something that Dean will- if- if- the opportunity comes back for that reunion it’s one of those like, it doesn’t need to be said it doesn’t need to be talked about it’s an unsaid, under- you know. (Stutters) it’s- it’s an- well, it’s not a subtext. It was clear text! (Audience claps) and the- the accepting of that happened in that moment when Cas was- was taken away and Dean was sitting there on the floor and realized that he- he had- had not only lost a- a- a brother in arms but had also lost one of his closest- the closest people to him. And- and I- you know I’ve said that when you find your people it doesn’t matter who or what or where or why or when they are, you find your people. And they found each other and I think that that’s- that’s always gonna be there whenever- whenever they do end up coming back or whenever they do have a reunion, it’s just understood.

I know this might sound silly, but I think writing fanfiction saved my life. Having a way to work out my emotions in a safe way, seeing myself through fictional characters, and expressing how I feel about things outside of my control, in an environment where I dictate what can and can't happen is such a freeing experience. I don't wake up going "life is nothing but misery and pain" anymore, I wake up going "boy oh boy, I can't wait to update my fic!" It's so fun to take a thing I enjoy and re-imagine it, and it's so soothing to work out my own insecurities using characters that already exist. And if I have the guts to actually post it, it's amazing to see people actually care about my writing.
