365 Days「Jihyo & Kei → Dropped」
Day 365,
Have you all been doing well? It’s been another year, hasn’t it? Well…I think it’s been a year, right? I still haven’t found Haneul Oppa but I’m sure he’s holding out since he’s been the one protecting me when you and Appa left. The world’s still in chaos with walkers everywhere but everyone who has survived is getting by. There’s no need to worry about me since I’m adjusting to life at Haesong and you’ve raised a strong daughter! I know it’s still dangerous out there but I can protect myself! Appa’s probably gonna laugh at me since I still can’t shoot long-range properly but there are teachers around so I’ll learn! I can’t disappoint Appa who’s been in the police force for years, right? Oppa! If you found this and is reading it, get your butt over here! Or at least let me know that you’re alright or something…even though I’ve written that in all of my previous entries. Anyways, this marks the end of my third diary to you! I love you, Appa, Umma, Oppa! ♥
She couldn’t believe that it’s been 365 days after settling down at Haesong. Time did pass by pretty quickly around here when there were constant work to be done. Even so, it would put her heart at ease knowing that her brother was safe and living well. Closing her diary and clipping the pen onto the cover, she tucked it safely in her jacket pocket. Jiyeon had been on the road for a couple of hours now and since she was finally done writing her entry, it was time to actually head to her home from the world before.
Since it was getting warmer, she figured that it was nearing the afternoon. Shrugging off her jacket, she secured it around her waist before heading out once again. Fortunately for her, the route she was taking had little to no signs of walkers. Her eyes caught sight of the markings she left on a couple of trees when she was together with Haneul. She started to run since she was certain that the house wasn’t far off at this point.
Soon enough the neighbourhood was right in front of her. Scannning the area, it appeared to be empty, no walkers or survivors were present. Heaving a sigh of relief, she dug in her pocket for her diary but nothing was there. A look of confusion crossed her features as she continued to rummage around for the notebook. “You idiot, you shouldn’t lose things like this…” She mumbled. “You’ve got to be kidding me…”
One thing that hadn’t changed with the coming of the apocalypse was Jihyo’s ability to get bored remarkably easy. Staying in one place had always made her uneasy, even before there was actual danger attached to it. She didn’t like growing fond of anything, as soon as she put importance to the smallest thing, it would get power over her.
Nothing was allowed to have power over her. Nothing but herself.
So she changed her houses, she changed her trading partners, she changed the hospitals she supplied at, she changed her routes to and from not.
This one was one of those, a new route she hadn’t tried out yet, and it had been suprisingly good so far. The area was abandoned, but with enough houses that she might actually find something of value here. She’d been casually scanning the area when her eye fell on something laying on the middle of the street –
A book?
She thought of Jungsuk, who, even now, was still enough of a dumb studious nerd to like books, so she walked over to it and grabbed it, thinking she could give it as a gift. But there was no title and no description. A notebook then.
She flipped it open, always being curious what was on other people’s mind. It was a diary, and she read a few entries.
The end of her third diary, and Haesong was founded around that time.
Interested enough to invest some effort into this, Jihyo walked into the nearest house, propping herself by the window so she could observe people on the street, before continuing reading.
