Fly Fly Away Lil' Hummingbird - The Music Freaks Fan Comic
Tiny break from the Gravity Falls blast to show off a comic I've had in the works for *roughly* three months, probably a little bit more. Regardless, it's done, and I wanted to cart it around like a prize pony.
I got into The Music Freaks (TMF) some time before my GF obsession after stumbling upon an animatic about it one night. And was instantly endeared to the story and characters. Then I believe the week following I pretty much binged the entirety of the series, and any other extra content I could get my hands one.
The writing can be kind of cheesy, but I grew up with Wattpad fanfics, so I am no stranger to The Cheese.
But the comic idea came a bit after my binge, as I'm trying to fall asleep one night. And I kept rotating the idea of Jake's bullying in middle school, like an infectious ear worm in my brain. Especially a line, he says when he's opening up to Hailey in one episode; about him getting teased for singing/humming to himself in the hall or at school. It got me thinking about what if there was a name that he got called that's associated with that, hence "hummingbird." Then everything sorta fell into place after that. I still spent a few more days sitting on the idea before actually starting the comic, but I pretty much busted out the first three pages that later week before struggling to finish the fourth for months until recently. (I sped through the last two and a half pages in one sitting because I was tired of it being incomplete).
Hope you enjoy!! Love to hear your thoughts and / or headcanons.
Stupid text posts!!!!!
Chapter 7 of "The Story of A Singing Asshole" is now out^^ aghh finally i updated, it took so long TvT i'm still going to keep posting spoilers for the next chapter soon, for now i'm going to deal with midterms first!!
I finally finished them yuppie!!!!
Overall i'm pretty happy with them, i've decided to give Luke style that more leads to the 70's fashion because he needs something interesting in himself, also giving Haliey curly hair just has sense for me. I think Milly design is my fav tho idk why she just has something:3
Looking through the tmf sean tag and omg boy, get some moisturiser you're fucking grey 😭
Like Drew and Jake both have saturated brown eyes, why can't Sean and Lia get saturated skintones :(
moisturise me, moisturise me, moisturise me, moisturise-
also that blush on Lia looks awful I'm sorry baby girl :(
I’m usually kind of picky about which Music Club x Dromies ships I actively enjoy, but the more I think about it, the more I am convinced to like Sean x Liam.
I think it’s mostly just the “always wants to believe in their friends” parallels, which this ship shares with Hailiam, the other obscure Music Club x Dromies ship I like. And there’s also the “the friend with the most communication skills” award that they both share—though with Liam the bar for winning that award is extremely low, haha.
But also, one of the things that drives me towards it is how every other Liam x member of the Music Club ship would start with them being very aggressive enemies, but I always imagine Sean and Liam being very awkward enemies. Sean doesn’t like this guy, because he’s heard about him hurting his friends, but they’ve never spoken directly to each other and both can be kind of quiet. So if they ever get stuck working with each other during school or something I feel like it would just have this awkward co-worker energy, where there’s a lot of long silences and bad attempts at small talk. If they’re ever forced to do something together, Sean just goes, “I don’t like you, and you probably don’t like me, but let’s just get this done, okay?” And then they do. And it’s weirdly uneventful. And I find that scenario amusing.
And I think their actual relationship dynamic once they’re together would be kind of fun. Half their dates would be them sitting in silence next to each other doing their own thing, and at the end they both say they had a great time. When they actually do go on real dates, they probably get into shenanigans, but hilariously low-stakes ones like sneaking extra free bread into their bag or something. And they snicker and act like they’re being very evil…Meanwhile across the restaurant Drew and Henry are busy getting into a physical fight with their waiter over the amount of croutons in Drew’s salad or something. So while someone could make the argument that both of them are too chill and would be boring together, I say that is a feature and can lead to great comedy. And I like a couple that can sit in comfortable silence.
They also have a cool contrast in that Sean was forced to grow up too fast, but Liam is really only performatively mature with things like wanting to show off how he is very interested in girls, and in a lot of ways he’s actually one of the most childish of his friends. So they both force themselves to act ‘mature’ but for different reasons and in different ways? And I feel like those contrasts would make them help each other out more than make them not get along, if you know what I mean.
But it also doesn’t feel like Sean’s constantly having to manage his partner’s emotions, which I like. They don’t give me “I can fix him” energy, haha, which is vital for me in Sean ships because he doesn’t need more responsibilities like that.
