The Power of Chocolate, or The Dessert That Won Over the In-Laws
Whenever I think back on important and memorable moments in my life, invariably food plays a central role. Here’s one VERY important moment I’ll never forget:
Way back in the day, when my wife was just my girlfriend, I endured that rite of passage, the infamous "first meeting of the parents." In hindsight, I think they were likely as nervous as I was, and it took quite a while for us to warm up to each other.
We soon discovered our shared love of food, and I put into action a most ambitious plan to win them over: I prepared, from memory, Michel Richard's brilliant Chocolate Dome Cake, which appeared in Julia Child's fabulous Cooking with Master Chefs.
It turned out beautifully, as did my relationship with my wonderful in-laws.
Trust me, master this recipe (it has many steps but each is relatively simple), and you will create lasting memories, friendships, and, if you're lucky, loves of your life.
