Call me Shepard. ('Shep' is thin ice unless you’re handsome, funny, or have interesting teeth.) Seems that pretty much everyone has at least one finger knuckle-deep in the 'protect, study, foster, and otherwise revolve in perpetuity upon the axis of Pokémon' pie these days. Personally, I'm more inclined toward the human end of things myself.
Either way, looks like picking up strays is simply what I do.
An 'irl Pokémon / Rotomblr' RP blog feat. █████ Shepard, a quintessential dark-circled, dry-mannered, coyote-coded 'just some guy' who's been tooling around out in rural Hoenn for so long that a modestly-sized collective living establishment has ultimately taken shape around him.
If your character has had any dealings or interests adjacent to Hoenn’s counterculture and/or grassroots movements in the last handful of years, or perhaps just knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy, there’s a chance that they might have heard at least vaguely of The Sticks, a community located roughly northwest of Lilycove and regarded locally as home to a modest menagerie of fringe-walking and bohemian sorts.
Over time -- (and particularly in the last handful of years, thanks to the wonders of social media and good, old-fashioned word-of-mouth) -- The Sticks has begun to forge something of a distinct little reputation for itself within the social ecosystem as a place which offers a fresh start, and second chance, to those with somewhat checkered pasts.
Shepard, for his own part, stands as The Sticks' center of gravity, and de facto head.
Blog things to know up-front:
🔹 Mail: yes; with caveats.
🔹 Sapient Pokémon/fallers/etc.: yes; with caveats.
🔹 Magic Anons: no.
🔹 Character and writer are 30+.

((While it’s true that, generally speaking, Quinn is too femme and, perhaps more importantly, too young to be caught in earnest beneath the umbrella of Shepard’s usual romantic or physical tastes, that wouldn’t stop him from indulgently cuddling on or kissing her a little from time to time, if she was likewise inclined. He’s not as prickly about his personal space as some might expect, and while that doesn’t necessarily make him a touchy feely person, it does mean that he’s fond of a little flirt shared with very particular friends here and there — especially if it leans a bit theatrical or performative just for the harmless, feel-good fun of it.))
//Arjun, with their myriad feelings about Shep, is very much a cat. He'll set timers to make sure he doesn't respond to messages immediately, purposefully vanish for periods of time when he visits The Sticks, everyone including Maxime swears they saw him just a minute ago. He will make his presence known when he does want attention, but damn. what a fucking pain in the ass. cute pain in the ass, but jesus.
((This is so goddamn funny. ‘I gotta play it cool; can’t respond too fast or be too present or I’ll look desperate and lame.’ Meanwhile Shep’s just out here like ‘I already know you’re desperate and lame, just like—, In General; but watching you try to meter yourself like this is very funny anyway. Do continue 😌’))
hey white dad, you got any advice for getting out of a rut? I've been stuck lately.
@freelance-psychic-arjun
Seems like brown son has had the feeling that he’s in one rut or another pretty much the entire time white dad has known him. White dad thinks that mountains don’t exist without valleys between them and that valleys shouldn’t be dismissed simply for not being mountains. White dad thinks that goals are good, but wonders sometimes why brown son seems only to credit himself for goals checked neatly off a list once complete and not for the experience and learnings he acquired in reaching for those goals in the first place. White dad worries sometimes that brown son thinks he’ll have everything figured out forever, and never have to feel like something is missing again, once he determines and secures just the right permutation of achievements. White dad gently suggests that the self is not a thing which completes, but expands.
to be fair, I did crawl out of some of those ruts accidentally, I just fell back in. but uh. Brown son has definitely been doing a lot of mountain climbing without acknowledging that it's a mountain. I'm going to try not being an achievement hunter for a moment.
Thanks for the advice white dad. I'm still aiming for some particular targets but I'm not gonna go insane about it!! I prommy!
I know already that your cute little pink dye-job is going to act as a helmet rendering you impervious to wisdom, so try not to worry over all this too much. (Joking, obviously. The mid-20s are just like that.) I also already know we’re going to have a version of this conversation again — and probably again after that. It’s not going to mean that you fell backwards into the same hole.
(Also, there’s a joke here somewhere about how a great deal of life is in fact spent in pits and holes, and how you of all people should be willing to see the value in that 🎷)

Mostly just working around the place and going out on contract calls for people closer to town. As the season turns, it means a lot of little general maintenance things to take care of before it gets a little more properly cold. Not really any big, singular projects; just a bunch of small things; but it’s been keeping us pretty busy around here for sure.
Admittedly too, the seasonal shift at this time of year tends to get me kind of moody, so there’s that as well. No particular reason or anything; just a little flat and distant.
Just a potluck-and-bonfire kind of thing later! I’m sure the potluck will be heavier on the ‘sweet treats’ side of things than usual, but yeah; nothing real elaborate. Food and people.
I can hear Bull, Jun, and Maxime joining forces to assure Lobo that the perceived coolness of stab scars is in fact not worth the actual experience of being stabbed. Sunday afternoon in full swing, I see.
Lobo, to Bull: weird thinking about someone even wanting to stab you.
Bristol, laughingly: what the hell; what about [Maxime and Jun] then???
Lobo: uh-uh, I absolutely get someone wanting to stab Maxi(m)e. And stabbing is probably like saying 'hello' for Jun anyway; so--. [puzzlingly audible shrug]
