The ex-paladin and former Scarlet glanced up at his niece from where he sat on the steps of some building in the middle of Boralus seedier part of town. He had been run out of his farm by the Forsaken sometime after the fall of Teldrassil but before the Siege of Lordaeron, and has been essentially wandering from city to city, town to town ever since.

“Sure, what’s the matter?” he inquired of the only family he’s known since the fall of the kingdom of Lordaeron. He’s met Leon and reconnected with Davan since then, but Brie he had helped raise and train until Ettore had managed to exile him.

Brie’s eyes were red and tear stained as she shuffled towards her uncle.  “Have you see Dad? I can’t find him.”  She didn’t call him something so formal as ‘Father’, nor simply as ‘Gilzo’ like she used to when they’d first met. So much progress in such a short time! Only to be spoiled by the other words in the question; asking where a Death Knight was in the middle of a Scourge invasion.  @sir-arsalot​

“I have not,” her uncle replied with a frown, wondering what has his niece upset. “I was going to go visit him, see about some lodging until I can find a place here in Boralus.”

Francis furrowed his brow in concern. He knew his niece well enough to know that she normally did not address her father with such familiarity and although he was sure her relationship with his brother probably improved since he had last seen her, it was still concerning.

“What is wrong, Brie?”

Francis listened to her concerns, also worried now that his brother seems to be missing. He prayed that Davan hadn’t gotten caught up in the Cult of the Damned again, “I… don’t know how to find him in Icecrown other than to ask Argent defenders if they’ve seen a miniature death knight.”

Brie rubbed her eyes, sighing heavily. “I tried! But...they’re so busy...too busy too look out for something like that..” Another sniffle as she looked back at her uncle. “I just want my Dad...where’s my Dad?”

Oh dang, I don’t think she does? She didn’t own much other than clothes when she was in the Crusade and hasn’t really been given anything gift wise since leaving.  WAIT NO. She’s got a total of 1 picture of her with her baby boy just before he was kidnapped; though she was told, and still believes, that he was killed by people attacking the Monastery.  That’s easily something priceless, she’d be devastated if she lost it.

Medivh held up a hand and started to open his mouth to speak but then paused, took a moment to think about her accusation and then decided it was better not to answer with his original thought. He lowered his hand and his shoulders sagged, “Its not like I had a choice back then.”

The old wizard placed a comforting arm around Brie while she explained the problem against him. When she finished, he didn’t bother asking how the ancient queen had gotten a hold of a Titan relic that was suppose to be securely locked away in the Tomb of Sargeras. It was obvious that the Kirin Tor failed to make sure the tomb was fully secured before sealing it again. An oversight of Khadgar’s perhaps? He’ll have to talk to the Archmage about it later.

Instead, Medivh rubbed Brie’s back as soothingly as he could while he spoke, “Did one of the Naga yell that at you and why?”

She seemed to calm a bit when he put his arm around her. Brie wiggled a bit closer, getting comfy.  “It must have been.” She took a deep breath. “Probably someone we pissed off. Who is probably even more pissed that we didn’t say….’Oh hey by the way, don’t be in the city on this particular day and time because the well will explode.’“  Brie grumbled for a moment. “At least there’s no well for you to jump in this time around.”

Medivh gave a small chuckle, “No, there isn’t.” He sighed a little and let Brie get comfortable against him. “It probably would be best for you to avoid Naz’jatar. I”m sure the Queen will not be happy seeing you again, especially after what had happened the last time we were in her presence.”

Brie glanced up at Medivh. “Do you think Sassine died or got turned into a Naga?” She pondered this for a moment.  “I…really hope Haleesi didn’t fall to the Nightmare once he realized that we knew what was going to happen to the well. And got. Mad or something. I don’t really get how the Nightmare works.”

“I’m sure Sassine is either dead or a Naga, she struck me as the type that would do anything for power.” The Magus frowned when she mentioned the druid that had helped them. He didn’t know of Haleesi’s fate and hadn’t seen him at the Battle of Hyjal, but then again the druid might not have been there and that didn’t mean ill had fallen upon him.

“I don’t know about Haleesi,” he replied on the topic finally. “You would have to ask one of the druids about him. Hopefully he survived and is well.” Medivh turned his emerald gaze to her. “It makes you believe what is right is actually wrong and what is wrong, right.”

She dragged her hand down her face with a sigh. “I heard he was a Satyr, locked up in the Warden’s…jail. Thing. Place.” She grumbled slightly. “But I have no idea how true that is. And I don’t know if I want to find out if it’s true or not.”   She contemplated his last statement, about what was right and wrong, but she remained quiet and didn’t comment on his question.

“I pray that is not the case. He was a good man and does not deserve that kind of fate.” Medivh pursed his lips as he considered the possibility. He would not know why Haleesi would accept Xavius’ promises to power, but if he had turned around the time of the invasion or some time after, would it have been because he was desperate to survive?

“Have you seen or heard about the wild druid we encountered in the forest?” he glanced over at her. “The dark coated panther. I do not recall his name or if he ever told it to us.”

Cats can’t heal.” She sighed slightly, pulling away from Medivh so she could pull a twig out of her hair.  “I know a lot of mysterious people that go into seclusion. I’m not sure what that says about me.”

“Mythol? Yes! I’ve seen him a few times. I ran into him while trying to help Tel...” She frowned for a moment, then shook her head.  “I haven’t seen him since picking up druidism though. I can’t wait to show him!”  She tapped her chin.  “Saw his regular face once, it was bizarre not seeing him as a cat.”

Medivh held up a hand and started to open his mouth to speak but then paused, took a moment to think about her accusation and then decided it was better not to answer with his original thought. He lowered his hand and his shoulders sagged, “Its not like I had a choice back then.”

The old wizard placed a comforting arm around Brie while she explained the problem against him. When she finished, he didn’t bother asking how the ancient queen had gotten a hold of a Titan relic that was suppose to be securely locked away in the Tomb of Sargeras. It was obvious that the Kirin Tor failed to make sure the tomb was fully secured before sealing it again. An oversight of Khadgar’s perhaps? He’ll have to talk to the Archmage about it later.

Instead, Medivh rubbed Brie’s back as soothingly as he could while he spoke, “Did one of the Naga yell that at you and why?”

She seemed to calm a bit when he put his arm around her. Brie wiggled a bit closer, getting comfy.  “It must have been.” She took a deep breath. “Probably someone we pissed off. Who is probably even more pissed that we didn’t say….’Oh hey by the way, don’t be in the city on this particular day and time because the well will explode.’“  Brie grumbled for a moment. “At least there’s no well for you to jump in this time around.”

Medivh gave a small chuckle, “No, there isn’t.” He sighed a little and let Brie get comfortable against him. “It probably would be best for you to avoid Naz’jatar. I”m sure the Queen will not be happy seeing you again, especially after what had happened the last time we were in her presence.”

Brie glanced up at Medivh. “Do you think Sassine died or got turned into a Naga?” She pondered this for a moment.  “I…really hope Haleesi didn’t fall to the Nightmare once he realized that we knew what was going to happen to the well. And got. Mad or something. I don’t really get how the Nightmare works.”

“I’m sure Sassine is either dead or a Naga, she struck me as the type that would do anything for power.” The Magus frowned when she mentioned the druid that had helped them. He didn’t know of Haleesi’s fate and hadn’t seen him at the Battle of Hyjal, but then again the druid might not have been there and that didn’t mean ill had fallen upon him.

“I don’t know about Haleesi,” he replied on the topic finally. “You would have to ask one of the druids about him. Hopefully he survived and is well.” Medivh turned his emerald gaze to her. “It makes you believe what is right is actually wrong and what is wrong, right.”

She dragged her hand down her face with a sigh. “I heard he was a Satyr, locked up in the Warden’s...jail. Thing. Place.” She grumbled slightly. “But I have no idea how true that is. And I don’t know if I want to find out if it’s true or not.”   She contemplated his last statement, about what was right and wrong, but she remained quiet and didn’t comment on his question.

★: First thing that changes when they realize they care about your muse

The Magus rested his chin in hand as he leaned forward against the table, watching his companion pick at her food. The tavern was loud with noisy patrons laughing at some story or drunkenly. The Lion’s Pride Inn was busy this time of the year as people from all over the kingdom came to Stormwind to shop for Winter’s Veil or to visit family they otherwise would not have bothered to visit.

A pang of regret heavily weighed against his chest as he thought about all the Winter’s Veils he had missed with the Wrynns, the only family he ever truly knew, and all the Winter’s Veils he had missed since his resurrection. He could have gone and reconciled with the son of his best friend, but he had chose instead to remain in hiding and live the life of a hermit.

It left him feeling empty in the long run. Perhaps that is why he allowed this aspiring druid to accompany him? Medivh shook his head lightly and leaned back in the wooden chair, his companion briefly glancing up at him before she reverted her gaze back to the plate of food she barely touched. Maybe in the beginning, after they had returned to their own time, that might have been his reason. But now he wasn’t sure it was the only reason he allowed her to stick around.

Medivh furrowed his brow at the enigma of his own feelings toward the druid. He had never been one to be open about who he was or how he felt. Not even his old friends knew him as well as they thought. It was a lingering personality trait from his first life, a piece of the corrupted Guardian that still remained with him. It is what kept him from living in the world that had birthed him. He didn’t trust himself because he didn’t know who he was anymore. His entire life had been nothing more than servitude for one entity or another, a twisted perspective molded by a Dark Titan and his own need for acceptance and love.

The Magus grunted in contempt and then took notice as his friend flinched in response. His annoyed look melted into concern, wondering why she had flinched at his own vocal hatred for himself and his past. It occurred to him then that she was very much like how he had been. Rejected by society because of the things she was made to do, tormented and manipulated by a more powerful force, and cast aside when she would not conform to the ideals of others.

She must think of me like everyone else, he concluded and he hated the thought. He hated the fact that she was molded to be an anxious wreck always questioning the motives of others and whether she was worth anything to them. Medivh frowned some more and he watched as she ducked further into herself. He did not like her reaction and did not want her to be like that around him.

He was her friend.

The admission floored him a little. He knew that previously she had been someone to keep him company and he did what was necessary to keep that company. Medivh regretted immediately that he was the cause for her reactions toward him and he vowed to change that.

After all friends do not use each other.

“I’m going for a walk,” he finally spoke and stood from the chair. The furniture squealed in protest at being pushed back and Medivh stepped around before replacing it under the table. He held out a hand toward her, “I would like you to accompany me, Brie. Please.”

The tone of his voice and the choice of words were different than how he usually interacted with her. Before he had always came off as someone to be obeyed, an authoritative figure. He realized now that he was no different than the people who had intentionally hurt her. He did not like that. It was who he had been in his first life and he had swore to make up for everything he had done back then.

She did not deserve that kind of person from him and he promised himself he would stop being that person to her.

His hand still held before her, waiting patiently for her to accept his offer of friendship.

☆: What they miss about your muse when they’re apart

The raven perched quietly on the lifeless and snow covered tree branch. It bounced a little under his weight as he observed his surroundings. He had been traveling for a long while now, going no where in particular and just wanting to get out of his tower and be out in the fresh air. He had meant to only fly over Elwynn Forest and back and instead he ended up somewhere else and much farther away from home.

Medivh reached up to scratch with a talon, his head twisting to get at the itch that was bothering him. He couldn’t find or reach it just right and he huffed in annoyance. There was no one around to help him and he did not want to change back just to deal with an itch. He croaked in amusement just then, thinking about how a certain druid would find him ridiculous.

She would have laughed at his predicament before offering to alleviate his problem. His head lowered in longing as he thought about the warm fires basking them in its heat as he laid in her lap while she stroked his feathers and talked. Something about that always made her open up and she seemed happier in those moments.

He was happier.

He longed to be there right now but he hadn’t seen her in months. Medivh wasn’t sure if she was avoiding him or if she was too busy accidentally saving the world.

☾:What my muse says to yours when they think they’re asleep

It had been a long evening of traveling through the tundra, the bitter cold sapping the warmth and strength out of them with each passing hour. It didn’t matter that they had been flying the entire time, feathers could only keep them warm for so long. Now they rested under a snow-covered pine with a small campfire warming their half frozen bodies.

Medivh had his back against the trunk, their campsite nestled between two great roots and giving them some protection from the cold wind of the north. Brie was resting against his front for comfort and warmth, having fallen asleep some time ago and his own cloak acted as a blanket for them both.

His attention fell upon her, emerald eyes studying her sleeping face and how peaceful she looked. “You look happier like this,” he quietly whispered so as not to wake her. “Its as if the troubles of your life and the world do not exist while you sleep. I wonder what you dream about? Happier moments I hope.”

He reached up to lightly stroke her auburn hair. His fingers felt a twig entangled in the red locks and a soft smile graced his lips. “You are becoming so very much a druid in more ways than you realize, my dear.” Medivh carefully untangled the twig and tossed it aside before resuming his petting. “Though if you ever ask me to make love to you while you’re an animal, we will no longer be friends. The kal’dorei might be into that, but I am not.”

He laughed softly, his chest rumbling as he tries to keep it quiet. “I may not be too keen on snuggling with you either. You are not exactly a traditional druid all fluffy and squishy.” Medivh canted his head slightly, “Though I heard the form can be changed if the druid wants it.” He shook his head bemusedly. “No, I think snuggling like this is better. No twigs and bones poking me in the wrong places.”

Medivh rested his head back against the tree trunk, his gaze focusing on the few stars he can see through the canopy. “Sometimes I wish we were closer in age. I have nothing against the age difference, its just… our time together is shorter because of it. And if I was younger, I’m sure we would get into a lot more trouble than we do now. Always was a troublemaker as a boy. King Barathen thought so anyway.”

“You would have liked my friends and I think they would have liked you. I know Anduin would have thought of you as a good match for me. He was always trying to get me paired with someone after I woke up. At least until I started staying in Karazhan.” Medivh fell silent with a heavy sigh, missing his friends all of a sudden. He stopped stroking Brie’s hair to wipe at his face and the tears that had gathered in his eyes. He stared at the freezing liquid before brushing the tips together, crushing the specks of ice.

“But enough of my rambling, the hour is getting late and we have a long day ahead of us tomorrow.” He yawned then and tried to get more comfortable so he could get some sleep. “Sleep well, my friend.”

❧: Random affectionate headcanon

The raven landed in front of Brie, something in its beak. It dropped the item before cawing for a treat and then flying off and leaving behind the trinket. A few days later another raven appeared and left her flower petals before repeating the request of payment and flying off.

This repeated again a month later, two ravens showing up out of nowhere and leaving behind gifts, each one different from the last. Eventually it became predictable when the ravens would show up and every time they gave something to her. It was clear these animals weren’t just wild ones that had grown fond of her and when a familiar, older raven appeared with a letter from its master, whom they belonged to became obvious.

When she arrived, he was not there as promised. In his place was his entire conspiracy of ravens. They were perched on the trees and rocks, some splashing on the edges of the river. There was one larger raven perched on a boulder, white feathers in its tail and along its back and its eyes glowed an arcane color.

She knew who it was and the raven warbled happily at her arrival. “Thought you might like a little time alone and away from the problems of the world,” the raven offered. “Don’t mind the others, they’re just here to make sure we aren’t bothered.”

Afterwards when she went back, the ravens still kept bringing her gifts from him and from time to time an invitation to somewhere.

The Magus pursed his lips, unsure how to reply and handle Brie when she was like this. He sighed again, “I like being alone. Well, no I don’t actually, but its all I know. People and crowds for long periods leave me exhausted. I’m sorry if my abrupt departures come off as insensitive to you.”

Her shoulders slumped a bit. “Where do you even go? I keep thinking you’re never going to come back every time you leave.”

Medivh shifts awkwardly on his feet, “No where in particular. Sometimes I visit Llane and Anduin, but mostly I wander. Karazhan reeks with the Fel these days and I have a sickly aversion to that magic.”

He lifts his gaze to look at her, “You said you needed me? What troubles you? Anyone I need to sheep? Anyone I know?”

She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.  “It’s fine. I took care of it, by myself already.” Brie twirled her hair around her finger in frustration.  “Well. Sort of. At least I’m getting better at flying away from Naga.”

“Naga?” he canted his head a little. “What sea witch has been vexing you? I can lend a spell or two or three.” Medivh gave her a small, bemused grin. “If you still want my help that is.”

Brie looked up at Medich slowly, giving him a liddy stare. “Oh? What sea witch, you ask?” She blinked slightly as she put a hand on her chest in fake shock. “I don’t know, Medivh. I can’t possibly think of any Naga, who upon seeing ME, would instantly feel angry and chase me down. It’s a complete mystery. I’m completely bamboozled as to what Sea Witch has their panties all up in a twist.”

“You don’t need to be smart with me, Young Druid,” he quipped sharply back at her and folded his arms across his chest, mirroring her. “I may have the social skills of a sheltered teenager, but even I know better than to bite the hand that is offering aide.”

With another huff, she puffed up her cheeks and placed her hands on her hips. “I didn’t say that I didn’t want your aid. I’m just a little miffed that you either have no idea as to what has recently happened or SOMEHOW, you have forgotten what a lot of Naga used to be.”

“What has happened?” Medivh frowned, letting her temperament slide for the moment.

He knew of a lot things that have happened since Sargeras plunged his sword into the world, most of it coming from Khadgar, but he didn’t know every thing and it was possible something important passed by him while he was wandering.

“As for what a lot of Naga is, that is entirely subjective.”

She grabbed his tunic frantically, giving it a slight shake, less in anger, and more in panic. “AZSHARA. THAT’S WHAT’S HAPPENED.” Brie looked adequately freaked out, and it was all she could do to keep herself from hyperventilating.

Medivh carefully extracted himself from Brie’s grip and straightened his worn out robes. “I see. Not just any sea witch then. The sea witch herself.” He reached out and placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder and guided her to sit down before he asked, “Why don’t you tell me what has happened exactly? I highly doubt one of Azshara’s little excursions on some nameless shore somewhere has gotten you all riled up like this. So it must be more than that. Start from the beginning.”

She’s right there. With eyes everywhere, and I didn’t know where I was going until I GOT there and hnnghph.” She planted her face on his chest. “I was out exploring, then all I heard was. ‘YOU MUST HAVE KNOWN.’ before getting chased.”
