my favorite allen walker shonen protagonist thing is whenever he gives happy smiler pep talks about hope or whatever there’s always one character who’s like 😬 Jesus Christ this kid is lying to himself like it’s his job and it will burn him out so bad one day. like for all he can fall into the fist clenching we will get through this with the power of friendship trope it’s always at least a little undercut by someone nearby thinking ohhhhh my god no we won’t and it’s actually kind of scary that I can’t tell if he really believes that we will or not. there’s something wrong with this kid. and then you get allen POV late series where things get so bad he genuinely does burn out and is like damn there actually might not be hope for me. maybe lying to myself all the time wasn’t actually manifesting maybe it was just lying. haha. and then he tries to run away and die like a sick dog.
