Background

Serena spent most of her life helping out on her uncles farm—a rehabilitation space for magical creatures—where she found her a passion for caring for animals from day one. Her love only developed over the years, honing in on dragons when she was seven and given a miniature Herbridean Black as a prize at a carnival. She promptly became obsessed with the creatures, choosing to learn all she could about them with the intent to work with them one day.

Finally, at age 21, she got her chance at her dream job and moved to England to work in their new Dragon Sanctuary. There, she met the love of her life, Septimus Malfoy.

Why was the weather always miserable on her day off? Typical. She was already grumpy, had woken up feeling so, but the dreary cold was making it worse.

A clap of thunder rocked the sky and the heavens opened on a downpour, pulling her from her thoughts, cursing as she ducked into a shop.

He’d been working within the sanctuary— as per usual. The weather completely throwing him off course as he quickly dashed for the nursery, knew how much thunderstorms made his babies frightened.

Elsa clinging to his foot, he pulled out his phone to call his girl. Wondered maybe if she could lend a hand… he’ll pay her double?

She was peering out of the shop window as the rain crashed into the pavement, frown on her face. Shoving her hand into the pocket of her jeans when she felt her phone start to vibrate, not looking at the screen as she fumbled to get a hold.

Bringing it to her ear with a sigh, “hello?” She spoke as she moved further into the shop slightly, looking over the nick-back.

His brow dipped at the sound of her sigh, smirk tugging at the corners of his lips— tone slightly amused yet held a twinge of concern…

Elsa now practically climbing up his side, robes tearing slightly under her growing claws

“Uh, hey. Bad timing?.”

“oh. er, no, sorry, i just got caught in the rain.” Her teeth pulled over her bottom lip, picking up odd things as she moved around the shop.

“what’s up? wait—are you on your lunch? isnt it too early?” Her brow pinched more, stopping in the aisle.

“Woah— twenty questions mcgee, calm down.” he teased, softly with a big ole grin, using his free hand to stop Elsa from falling back onto the floor.

“It’s absolutely pissing it down and I have scared babies including little madam here.” he sighed. “I know it’s your day off— but, you think maybe you could stop by?.”

She scrubbed a hand over her face, biting back a groan. She knew it would only make her mood worse but she didn’t want to leave him without help.

“yeah, sure.” She said after a small moment, wetting her lips as she looked back to the window. Still raining, “ill be there in five.”

He could tell by the slight tone of her voice he’d… agitated her with his question, teeth pulling over his bottom lip he muttered quietly— softly. Elsa now comfortably perched on his shoulder.

“you can… say no Serena, I won’t be mad. it’s your day off. I understand.”

“no, babe, really, it’s fine. seeing the babies might actually cheer me up.” She tried to perk up her voice, not wanting him to feel badly for having asked. “it’s my job and i want to help you our—plus, i miss you.” She knew that seeing him would definitely put a smile on her face, “but i do need some coffee first because im half asleep.”

He was quiet for a small moment as he processed her words, fingers scrubbing through his messy (slightly sweaty) locks— light sigh leaving parted lips with a twitched smile.

“I miss you too.” he softly muttered, small hint of a playfulness tone shifting. “— only if you pick me up a cappuccino, with extra chocolate sprinkles.”

She already felt a little warmer, just having talked to him for this small amount of time. Frown softening slightly.

“you’re so demanding.” Her tone was lighter, more playful, deciding to brave the outside as the sun slightly parted through the clouds. Letting the shop door close behind her, “but i will, since i’m so nice. ill even get you a muffin.”

“Lemon drizzle?.” he grinned, softly as he nipped lightly at his finger to feed Elsa— sooth her down a little.

“I love you, see you in few and I promise I’ll make it up to you when we’re home.”
