Hi there! I read your post of histrionic personality disorder. I believe sister has it and her self destructive behaviour is worrying me, she lies an unreasonable amount and uses it to manipulate everyone around her, she uses sex as a tool to gain approval and attention from boys she befriends. She described symptoms of an STI to me but she won't go to the doc, im concerened it will cause permanent damage to her body. How do you approach someone with HPD?
Hey there, I am sorry it took time to answer, I post rarely on this blog now.
First of all, remind her that any STI, if not treated, can lead to complete, 100% and total infertility within MONTHS. Secondly, if she is a minor, you definitely have to tell your parent or guardian. This is a must, not an option, trust me. Today she is sleeping around, the next minute she will trade sex for money, it's a very slippery slope. Third, try to ask her if she feels good while having sex. Chances are she does not. There will be a lot of crying, mind you.
But the most important part is to be there for her. All what you described is what I've gone through, and I know it can be controlled with a reasonal amount of self-control and support from friends and/or family. Just tell her you will notify someone if the sutuation gets out of control. Chances are she will get angry and refuse to talk to you, but you sure do know that even without very honest talks and chitchats you will see that something is really really wrong.
