Randy Sparks records a new song for his forthcoming album.
The Kneads Master New EP
The Kneads, who are playing the Hopscotch Festival in Raleigh, NC in fall 2017, stopped by Two Egrets to master their latest EP.
Mike Garrigan: Tell me about your new project.
Michael Joncas: Well, it’s been a long time in the making. We actually recorded it with Jerry [Kee] initially last spring . . .
Joe Garrigan: . . . of 2016. The band was different then.
M. Joncas: We’ve gone through some lineup changes. We had to put [the project] on the back burner and figure out what we were going to do with it. Joel, who was originally with us, did some singing on it. So, when he left the band, Joe and I talked about how we didn’t want [the project] to go to waste. We went back to Jerry’s and redid some of the vocals. We really liked the songs. We worked really hard on the songs to get them to where we liked them. We didn’t want [the project] to just disappear.
J. Garrigan: We agreed that these songs were Kneads songs.
M. Joncas: After we went back [to Jerry’s] we were really happy with how things turned out. Got a mix. Remixed the mix. I think it’s a step up from where we were with our first album. The songs are a little more mature, I guess. Having been to the studio a few times now, we know how to approach it and how to make songs better.
M. Garrigan: Do you feel that the old songs are translating well within the lineup change?
M. Joncas: The new guitar player (Josh) has taken my parts and made them his. I took over Joel’s parts. Josh doesn’t play it the same way, which is an interesting process. It still works within the song. Melvin, our new bass player, also adds his spin on things. We’re able to fill things out more.
J. Garrigan: I like the new line up. We sound different than before. We did a second recording with the new line up and that is very much different from [this project]. The sound is evolving.
M. Garrigan: When do you plan to release [this project]?
M. Joncas: We’re hoping early summer.
J. Garrigan: We’re playing the Hopscotch festival in September 2017, so we hope to have it out well before then.

Enjoyed working with Kaylin Roberson on the title track from her new EP. We co-wrote the song and recorded it at Two Egrets. Fiddle, steel, and bass were recorded at the Second Story in Durham, NC.
Enjoyed participating in recording the audio for this excellent video. We recorded Molly’s guitar and vocal. Production by Quilla. Awesome.
Recording acoustic demos with Rachel Martin. Excellent songwriter.
Gettin' creative with Mark I's new song, "Wrong."
Enjoyed using Ozone 7 in stand-alone mode on a mastering session for Quilla. Powerful application.
