‘Two Films About Loneliness’

ANIMATED SHORT FILM

Written and Directed by Will Bishop-Stephens and Christopher Eales

A split-screen separates the worlds of Jonathan Smallman, who is recording his online dating-profile, while next door, Phillip Button, the internet chef and hamster, is noisily recording his new cooking video. Both characters have turned to technology in their search for companionship and acceptance and it’s not entirely working. Until something unexpected happens…

The new stop-motion animation ‘Two Films about Loneliness’ opens its run of the festival circuit at the acclaimed International Short Film Festival Oberhausen this May.

A bilingual film, it features the voices of British Actor and Comedian Tim Key ( Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, BBC TV and Radio Series ‘Cowards’) and German Voice Actor Detlef Bierstedt, the German voice of George Clooney (The Thin Red Line - Der Schmale Grat / One Day – Zwei An Einem Tag) amongst others.

The film uses a mixture of digital software and the hand-made rickety aesthetic of model animation for their different intrinsic material qualities and visual language.

In their approach to puppet making, lighting and photography the Directors tackle the question how limitations in space and budget can influence a film for the better.

‘Two Films About Loneliness’ is an independent collaboration between the Animators Christopher Eales and William Bishop-Stephens who met at the Royal College of Art in London while studying for an MA in Animation. Since then they have worked together on film commissions, exhibitions and film projects.

Split-screen stop-motion animated film. The split screen divides the worlds of Jonathan Smallman, who is recording his dating profile, and Philip Button, the Internet chef. But will the irritating sound from the real world stand in the way of their search for companionship and acceptance.

A bilingual film in German and English, featuring the voices of the actor and comedian Tim Key and voiceover artist Detlef Bierstedt.
