"You wouldn't have the keys for my place this century or has Clint ruined it?"
It’s important to remember this. (For some reason, I don’t see Jocasta as a big sci fi fan.)

“Do people say that a lot or just you?” Matthew had to ask, he didn’t mean anything by it apart from the don’t meet your heroes comments he heard around this time. Though admittedly when Clint met him, he left the Avengers to go work on a ranch with him. There was a little shake of his head as he let the other direct him. What harm would a few drinks do with a good friend? Could just as easily forget for a night about his troubles. “Few things happened that would have changed my mind.” Matthew admits but continues, “I don’t really know why I’m here this time.” A lie, he’d spent too long looking for a way. Seeing if Kang left anything behind so he could spend out the rest of his days with friends before going back. He knew where he had to be when his time would come. As long as he was there when that happened, the rest would be fine, at least he thought so.
Clint didn’t answer his question. Since Matt’s been gone he’s faded out of everyone’s memories. Even Clint’s, except when something he sees just reminds him of Matt and it comes back in a force he never expects.
“Maybe you wanted to see your ol’ buddy Hawkeye again. I’m sure there’s a way to get you back if that’s what you’re worried about. Crazier things have been happening lately and the least we can do for you is send you back to your right time.” He mused as they walked a few blocks to the bar Clint was talking about.
It was a dive, but no one would really ask questions about a man in cowboy attire and someone who looked a lot like that arrow shooting guy from Bed-Stuy. “Go get a seat, what can I get you to start with?”
It was supposed to be a joke but hadn't come out that. Clint didn't reply and Matthew wasn't going to push it. He'd just enjoy the company tonight.
"That might've been it." He could entertain the thought. He didn't have much going for him back in his time anymore. "There ain't no rush is there?" That came out a little more desperate than intended. "I mean, you lot can send me back to not long after I left right pardner?"
The bar wasn't the nicest of places even by Matthew's standards, which was saying something. Though given their attire, nicer wouldn't have let them in. "Whiskey, straight." He hoped the choice of something hard hopefully wouldn't raise any flags as Matt headed to a quiet corner. Again, looking at out of the way even though they stuck out like sore thumbs.

“Sure there’s plenty of them kickin’ round Arizona to this day.” He offered a laugh, still rather half-hearted. He’d stopped playing with the ring on his finger, for now.
“Cheap stuff’s good, there ain’t really a place to swap out old money I’m guessing? Unless your pal Rogers’ still got my things.” He’d seen where his respective licences were kept and put away a few hundred bucks in with them just in case he was brought to the future.
“But none of them are Matthew Hawk even if they really want to be.” Clint gently wrapped a hand around his elbow and started to steer him towards the bar. All those things, his money and whatever else was put in the stash, that could be a problem for the morning.
He was sure Steve still had it, but that was a detour he didn’t think either of them would want to deal with. “No need, I can cover you for tonight. Think of it as a celebration to seeing you again. I thought you were going to stay in the past this time.” Not that he was really complaining, but he was gently prodding to see if there was something wrong.

Matthew heard him out, noting a few similarities save for Nancy’s parents liked him but his brother in law had tried to kill him on many occasion. Though he was nothing more than a common thug who had never liked him. He was still giving Aston some attention when the other cut himself off. “I mean no offense with this but I don’t think I’m the one you need to tell that story to. Sounds like you got somethings you ain’t been able to say that you ought to.” He probably shouldn’t have chipped in there but his job had a lot to do with getting people to talk, albeit more in a court of law.
“I do, but my ex is stubborn and I’m stubborn and everything seems to end in a fight with us now.” Roger stroked Aston’s back, smiling as the dog began to wag his tail excitedly about getting two people to focus on him. “Anyways, my point was, I know what it’s like aside from the kid thing. Never had a child of my own.” Likely never would, which wasn’t the worst thing in the world–or so he liked to tell himself. If nothing else, it makes for a decent change of topic since he’s tired of thinking about Brian and how that wound up ending.
"It'd do you good to get off your chest, take it from someone who's well over a hundred and fifty. There's always letters." Not technically true but according to his birth certificate it was. "She was the best thing to ever happen to me." Matthew admits. "Though you've a good one here." He adds on giving Aston a welcome pat, though he should probably leave before getting too involved in someone else's personal life.

The dog’s behaviour wasn’t unwelcome after all, Matthew didn’t stop it in anyway. The behaviour of an animals was an odd comfort in moments like this, albeit he was more used to a horse than a dog. There was a lot he could have said, some of it rather hurtful that would make him no better than his brother in law. “Having your world ripped from by something you can’t do anything about. Left with their family blaming you just to have someone to take it out on. If you don’t know what it feels like. I envy you.”
“You have no reason to envy me. My first lover died in a car crash and after… His father went from treating me like a second son to treating me like less than dirt. Wanted nothing to do with the queer he blamed for Brian’s death.” And even with all the years of bad blood between them, it still stung to think about the period of his life when Monty used to like him. Roger shifted restlessly and rubbed at his arm. “But Brian’s alive again now and his father is dead and I–” He shook his head. “Well, doubt you want that little story.”

The cheer dropped from Matthew’s voice as the other discussed family. “My daughter died, my wife as well. I am widower, just cannot bring myself to remove this.” He said, gesturing to the ring on his finger. “Modern medicine could have saved them but it didn’t exist back in my time.” The other knew so much about him, it made Matthew think explaining this was rather pointless.
“My condolences.” Rather than stop Aston from nudging the man again, he let his dog capitalize on the fact that there was a clear sadness in the air and begin to lick the other’s hand again out of some show of comfort. “I can’t say I know what it feels like, but I definitely understand the… unfairness of something happening a little too late.”

“Asshole?” Matthew frowned, young people these days. “I’d watch yer language son. Some of us know how to take care of ourselves and deal with shooters.”
“I’m a witch, buddy. I literally deal with demons. You don’t impress.”
"I'm over one hundred and fifty and ain't impressed with the attitude son." Demons? Matthew shruged that idea off, he was friends with Hawkeye and She Hulk, he'd seen worse. Like that time Jen dragged him to punch a dragon for reasons he still couldn't figure out.

“I don’t mean no offense by this but I’d like my future just that, future.” Matthew already knew his life, knew how he would die, where and when. It was knowledge he didn’t want, knowing exactly how long he had to wait to see his daughter and wife again. The thoughts and words of the other had him fiddling with his wedding ring, a nervous tendency he would be better off without.
“It’s alrigh’, my daughter’s the same.” Was the same, the other man didn’t need to know that and well, if he was expecting a comment about the boyfriend he’d be waiting a long time. This wasn’t Matthew’s first time in the future nor was it the first time he’d heard about two men.
The fact that the other didn’t comment was to be relatively expected. He knew the man wasn’t exactly locked to a particular point in time judging by what Thomas used to say of him. So Roger settled for petting Aston’s head, mostly in an effort to get him to leave the other man alone–fat lot of good that did.
“You have a daughter? Lucky you. Raising kids is something special. I played a part in raising… quite a few children, actually.” Hell, he had seen one family through three generation and the thought only served to make him wonder where the hell John was and what he was up to these days. Shaking it off, he smiled. “Must be awful being here then. Separated by well over a hundred years.”
The cheer dropped from Matthew's voice as the other discussed family. "My daughter died, my wife as well. I am widower, just cannot bring myself to remove this." He said, gesturing to the ring on his finger. "Modern medicine could have saved them but it didn't exist back in my time."
