do men have resting bitch faces as well or do they not have negative characteristics ascribed to them for putting on a neutral rather than a deliriously happy facial expression
Yes, Black men in majority white spaces do. If I don’t smile every single second of the day my coworkers become in intimidated and start asking me what’s wrong, telling me to smile, make jokes about how I’m trying to be a thug/act hard, why am I angry, etc. And it’s not just white men at my job God FORBID I my large Black ass makes a white girl feel threaten because I’m sitting down with a neutral expression.
I’m not trying to take this post away from women and make it about Black men but I want to point out that wether it’s patriarchy or white supremacy; those who feel as if they have power over you HATE to see you not smile. They are so used to people like you smiling to gain their approval that when you don’t there’s a cognitive dissonance that makes them extremely uncomfortable.
That’s why “angry Black women” is a thing. They have to put on a smile for everyone (yes even feminist white women) or we all get uncomfortable.
This is such an amazing response.
TERUMOB BEAM!!!
watching a national dog show vid. this beast has the saddest most glistening eyes I've ever seen
This is a gnome
Begging Polin fans and Colin/Luke Newton fans who are trying to defend Luke in good faith to not acquiesce to this idea that he’s actually ugly or doesn’t fit beauty standards. Those fandoms are trying to gaslight you, and you are letting them. Don’t start your defense of him from a place of agreeing with them or letting them off the hook for trying to force the idea that Luke is ugly as an objective fact.
I see so many Polins act like we accidentally got a crush on Quasimodo because he has a good personality. Yes we like the character, we like the personality, the talent.
But Luke is literally Hot As Fuck. He is good looking. Start acting like it.
Remind people that we all have eyes, and even if attraction IS subjective, saying he’s ugly is ridiculous. Call it for what it is- jealousy, insecurity, pettiness, competitiveness.
He’s hot in character:
He’s hot out of character:
He’s hot in all seasons:
He was hired because he blends well with the siblings:
People are just weird about him, but it really has nothing to do with his looks and everything to do with their issues. That’s just a hot guy.

love her work
she still makes these and they’ve only grown more wonderful over the years. The wood-fired surfaces really give them life.

also Thomas fell to his knees with a shriek that made his head hurt and started shoveling sand onto Minho without hesitation. and Thomas fucking seethes when Jorge kicks Minho's leg. right on a burn. (twice)
what I'm saying is the movie was funny but we were robbed
do u ever get emotional about the fact that tchaikovsky, a gay man, wrote his Romeo and Juliet overture for his brother and his brother’s gay lover bc I sure as hell do
It’s true!!!
AND HE WAS A SUB????
Oh good god.
I finished The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue.
The story is written from the pov of a midwife in Ireland at the end of the 1914-18 war. The deadly influenza epidemic is raging and she is working in an isolation ward for pregnant women. She's joined by a volunteer from the local mother and baby home (Bridie) and a female doctor attends the ward when she can, which is not always when she's needed because the Gardai are looking for her in connection with her role in the Easter Rising. At home her brother is back from the war and, unable to work, mutely tends an injured bird.
The first half of the novel is a little like reading Jennifer Worth (which I recommend you do instead of watching that travesty on the telly). It's about things that happened. It focuses on the women and whether they and their babies will survive, and of course often the answer is "no". Then, almost without you realising it, you're in quite a different story and there's a very Donoghuian ending.
I very much enjoyed this. I find her style very easy to read, and her stories gruesomely compelling and oddly comforting in equal measure. God forbid you find yourself a woman in a novel by this author, because they suffer and find the world largely indifferent, but if you have to, at least there's a silver lining: you're going to find a good woman to hold your hand while it happens.
I would have liked far more of the relationship with Bridie, which is lovely, and the ending, well ... that's Emma Donoghue all over, I think.
It's worth a week of your time.
The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue does something v interesting by having a protagonist who lived thru the 1916 rising and fucking hated it. Like I know that that was a common opinion at the time but mainstream discourse Does Not Accept That. 1916 has become such a foundational myth for the irish republic that it's just. An agreed good thing. A noble struggle we'd all have been part of!
This book says to centrists: No. You fucking wouldn't. Look at this nice, decent, respectable nurse. Just like you, isn't she? Well she thinks your martyrs are fucking terrorists!
I don't know if any of y'all would be interested, but Emma Donoghue's The Pull of the Stars is a historical female same-sex romance set in a Dublin hospital during the Spanish Flu (with commentary on religious misogyny, marital abuse, and abuse of women and children by the church)
Polin Fic Idea
You know what I desperately need!!! A polin fic where Colin and Pen team up for Bridgerton game night and the name in question is the newlywed game. Wouldn’t it be so fucking cute that these “besties” end up beating all of the couples 😩I need this but I can’t write so if anyone with skills wants to use the idea please do 🥺
