Day 18 of Cassandra Appreciation Month! Part 1!
I wanna give a big ol' shoutout to my pals, @twotangledsisters @majorabbey @flossy2003 and @frozenwolftemplar
Go check out their fics, go check out the art twotangledsisters has made. It's all so so amazing. They're all such troopers for thinking of and writing and creating so much in the second week, it's absolutely insane.
And of course, an ultra big shoutout to @the-writer1988 for making this all possible!
Aww, thanks for the shout-out!!
And congratulation to you as well!! Not only did you write some awesome fics but you've been carrying the discussions!!!! Which is to me the hardest thing, I love reading them, but I would never know what to say.
Fanart of Of Knights and Villains by @frozenwolftemplar
I am such a SUCKER for little Cass fics and honestly @frozenwolftemplar does most of my favourite ones.
And this one I really enjoyed!
So today I felt like sketching, and I thought it's still Cass Appreciation Month so I should definitely continue to show appreciation not just for Cass but to the authors that helped make me obsessed with her!!
I'll probably finish this sometime in the distant future, but I didn't feel like doing a full drawing today and have a busy few months coming up so I wanted to share the sketch now and not months later.
I hope you like it :D
Also I still can't draw children.... so if she creeps you out, that's fully valid and on me xD
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
Watching Dan and Phil this morning with my coffee like it's a kid's cartoon and suddenly they go: Shoutout to Spain!
And I'm like, fuck, what did we do?!
Dan: Best LGBTQ country!
Me: YES!
POV: you're looking at the most hated character in tangled the series just for existing
what's the things that are hard to write for you
Oh! Great question!
Anything highly visual.
That's my major kryptonite because I have full aphantasia (can't visualize anything in my mind) and am visually impaired (like, I have vision to draw but not enough to drive).
So, I often forget to describe stuff (which isn't too bad in fanfics because people should know what things look like).
And when I am doing description, I have to google references images to try and help me out.
Other stuff I struggle with is:
-Pacing for relationships... one day I want to do a good slow-burn! But I'm really bad at not just jumping right into the relationship. Or if it does take a while it's usually due to conflict rather than the feeling growing slowly.
-Foreshadowing. I feel like it's always either far too vague or far too obviously and I never know which it's going to be. Sometimes I place what I think is the tiniest imperceivable little clue down and every reader immediately guesses the plot twist. Other times I'm placing clue after clue trying to get someone to just get the hint and nothing. (definitely my fault every time, I've no idea what readers notice)
-KEEPING TRACK OF ANIMALS (they just phase into existence when needed and that's not good writing xD)
I've really been enjoying Cassandra Appreciation Month. All the content has been great, but I'd like to give particular shout-outs to:
@twotangledsisters for really going above and beyond for the prompts, providing great fanart and fics. I've enjoyed all of them.
@nerdasaurus1200 for also providing great fics, but also for the discussion prompts as well. She brought up some points I've never really considered, as well as many I agree with.
@jy4stine for their excellent discussion posts, particularly the one for the fifth day (discussing Cass's childhood)
@frozenwolftemplar for that wonderful (and heartbreaking) Cass fic.
@flossy2003 for the artwork you submitted. Scarlett is adorable.
And @the-writer1988 for making all of this possible.
Fanart for Cass Appreciation Owl Fic by @majorabbey
I'm terrible at discussion posts so there's not much more I can do for Cassandra Appreciation Month, except appreciate some of the awesome fics I got to enjoy over this month!
And this is a piece of art I've had in my head since last Saturday:
In part of “Cassandra Appreciation Month”, here's a special shoutout for the-writer1988!
When I first heard that this appreciation month for Cassandra was going to take place, I reacted in a huge surprise. I've seen fandoms contributing in an "appreciation week" event for characters so many times throughout my years on social media, but a whole month dedication for one character, that's a very rare thing to see. And to see it happening towards one of my absolute favorite Disney characters honestly gave me great happiness.
To experience the amount of appreciation & love that people have for Cassandra astonishes me. The fan arts, fanfics, discussions, and prompts that people have been showing off throughout in this appreciation month is truly a sight to behold. Plus, I'm also very proud in taking part of this special celebration with the posts that I've contributed so far and to also talk with a few people that love Cass just as much as myself.
But none of this would've been possible had not been for "the-writer1988". Seeing you overhauling this "appreciation mouth" is something that I seriously admire. The way you've set up everything to this point following from what triggered in the appreciation month to happen in the first place amazes me. I don't think that I've ever seen this amount of Tangled & Cass fans this united in quite a very long time, and it's all because of you. Thank you so much in creating this mouth! And if Cassandra herself would see it, then I'm very sure that she'd be so touched on what you're doing for her.⚔️💖🦉
And for a little bonus, here's an old Cass art that I've made a couple years ago. It was one of my earliest attempts on drawing her to match the art style from the TTS. It may not be prefect, but it was a good start at the time in which I'm still pretty happy with.

day 1 | DAY 2 | day 3 | day 4 | day 5
CASSANDRA APPRECIATION MONTH DAY 16!!!
So, originally this was going to be a REWARD DAY but I'm still not sure on what to do with it.
This is what I am proposing: If people would like to discuss contributors content so far this month and how they have contributed to celebrating Cassandra please do so and tag them in your posts (and myself) so that they know you appreciate their work!
Alternatively, if you do not want to participate in that, this is the alternate option (or you can participate in both!):
DISCUSS Cassandra's songs/verses in the following FOUR songs:
I'VE GOT THIS
READY AS I'LL EVER BE
NEXT STOP ANYWHERE
THE VIEW FROM UP THERE
How do these songs illustrate Cassandra's character? What makes her verses in these songs stand out? Honestly, these two songs are some of my favourites in the show! Do they point towards Cassandra's wider arc in the series?
Cassandra Appreciation Month - Dragon Lady
(Alt. Prompt for Hurt/Comfort)
@the-writer1988
It’s a memory that will stay with Cassandra forever.
She’s ten years old, small and skinny, holding hands with two of the most important people in her life. Ahead of them is the largest tent she’s ever seen, towering over the crowd that surrounds them.
“There it is, Cassandra!” her father announces. He’s on her right, as tall as the tent. His presence is, in itself, remarkable because he’s supposed to be working today. But he got time off, just for her. He’d said as much. “You ready?”
She nods, practically bouncing with excitement. Her father’s armor catches the light, and the crowd seems to part like the red sea. On her left, her grandmother is looking around, making sure the coast is clear. Grandma isn’t quite as tall as Dad, but she’s a grown-up and that carries enough weight. She’s a tough grown-up, too; her and Dad. No one will mess with them.
“Can we see the dragon first?” Cassandra asks.
“That’s why we’re here, isn’t it?” asks Dad, as if he doesn’t already know. As if he isn’t the one who told her about the dragon in the first place! He’d seen it himself, when he got the tickets, and he’d promised Cassandra he’d take her to see it, too.
Grandma is as reserved as usual, her greying hair tied back and her dress as neat as her father’s uniform, but Cass knows she’s as excited as she is. When Dad had told them about the dragon, she’d looked up from the book she was reading, her eyes wide and curious. “A real dragon?” she’d asked, and Dad had confirmed it. From that point on, all Cass had talked about were dragons, and her grandmother was the only grown-up who’d came close to matching her enthusiasm (her father came second).
“I still can’t believe it, Roderick,” she was saying now. “A real dragon, in Corona! How’d they capture it, do you think?”
“I don’t know.”
“You didn’t ask?” this was from Cassandra. She wanted to know how they captured it. Then she could try and capture one of her own.
“I was busy; only got a glimpse of it.”
“Are you gonna ask now?”
“Cassandra-”
“I’m sure they’ll tell us,” said Grandma. “They’ll want to show off. It’s hard work, capturing a dragon.”
Dad smirked. “Speaking from experience, Mom?”
“Don’t be silly, Roderick.” But Grandma didn’t sound as severe as she normally would. With a conspiratorial smile at Cassandra, she continued; “I heard they set a trap; leave out some bait, find a place to hide, and stay there until the dragon is caught. If the dragon is caught. They’re smart animals-”
“Big, too,” Dad said. “And they can do some damage.”
Grandma nodded. “Which is why you have to be very careful if you want to catch one.”
“What do you do when you catch one?”
“Well, dear, I suppose-”
From up ahead, a trumpet sounded, and suddenly everyone was moving forward.
“That’s our cue,” said Dad.
As they approached the entrance, Cassandra was already planning what she’d do if she captured a dragon. She didn’t like the thought of keeping it locked up in a cage. It felt wrong. Dragons were supposed to soar through the skies, like they did in the pictures she’d seen at the castle. No, if she captured a dragon, it wouldn’t stay locked up for long.
Dad had said this dragon was locked up, and an idea began to form in Cass’s mind, one so huge and exciting it took all her strength to keep it inside. Maybe she could set this dragon free! Not immediately; she’d have to get it to trust her first. But once it did, and once it was out of its cage, it would be so grateful it would want to be her friend. She’d tame it and ride around on its back. Dad and Grandma could come too – surely there’d be room. Maybe they could fly to the castle and invite Queen Arianna and some of the guards (but only Cass’s favourite ones, like Stan) and they’d soar through the sky together. She’d be Cassandra the Dragon Lady, and it wouldn’t matter that she had no mother and none of the kids at school wanted to be her friend. She had friends, even if they were all grown-ups, and no one messed with you if one of those friends was a dragon! She could almost feel the wind on her face as they flew through the air.
That’s what Cass will remember when she looks back on her childhood. Not the rest of that day. Just that one, glorious moment where anything seemed possible. Where a little girl could befriend a dragon.
OMG this was SO CUTE. So precious.
I loved how not only Cassandra was excited, Cap and her grandma too!!
I feel bad for the dragon, and I can see those same seeds in Cassandra's head. This kinda made me think of when I was younger and would go to this nearby zoo which was always so exciting and fun but now I think about to it and I can't help but ask myself were the enclosures big enough?? it's close down now. My country has really strict animal rights laws now. But those memories have these odd bittwer-sweet feelings that this story really brought me back to?? (hoping that makes sense)
I loved Cassandra wishing for her httyd moment XD
But also that happy moment was quickly saddened by the mention of not having a mum and friends.
I laughed a good few times like she'd bring some guards but only her favourite XD
Love how you do her voice as a child! I love the unwillingly funnies of children's honest.
This was so cute, loved it.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate this.
I get what you mean about the zoo. In all fairness, when you're a kid, I don't think you really worry about the practical - or ethical - side of zoos. It's only as you get older, and you become more aware of such things, that it starts to occur to you. Could just be my experience, though.
I get what you mean about how exciting it used to be, too. In fact, I think I might have unintentionally tapped into one of my own childhood memories with this one. When I was about 11, my family visited Blackpool Tower, and it boasted a "walk of faith" - a glass walkway at the very top of the tower, 380 feet above the ground. I was so excited to try this out, thinking it would be some exciting challenge I could overcome and impress everyone. It turned out to be a single, somewhat dingy glass panel. Not particularly scary or challenging. But I remember how excited I was.
The inspiration for this fic came from "The Rise of Flynn Rider" (specifically this part) and IIRC the "dragon" was an illusion, so sadly Cass doesn't get to have her HTTYD moment. But I wanted to focus on the time leading up to that, when you feel certain something awesome is about to happen. And I like to think that's what's going to stick with Cass as she grows up. Not the disappointment afterwards (if, indeed, there was any; it's been awhile since I read the book and that name-drop is the only mention of Cass we get, so maybe it was satisfying to some degree) but that memory of being with people she loves and going to do something incredible.
100% kids have no idea xD I meant the memories get tinted in the future, looking back at them. At least for me. Everyone's different on that front I don't think there's a wrong or right way to feel nostalgic.
And omg, Blackpool tower! That brought back memories, my parents promised to take me there one day but then obviously we moved away from the country when I was five so we never did.
But I can very much relate to that memory!
I'd still argue you were brave, I remember being TERRIFIED of high up glass floors when I was younger.
And an illusion?? I did not know that. I haven't read the book. Keep meaning to read it, as well as Vanishing Village and Lost Lagoon but keep putting it off out of fear of running out of official tts material I get to experience for the first itme (silly but still)
Blocking people just because they don’t like the same character you do is quite immature, don’t you think?
No.
I think manging your online experience is extremely important and healthy and judging other people for HOW they manage their online experience is weird.
day out with aunt cass :]
for cass appreciation month prompt: found family <3
ty as always @the-writer1988
Oh my goodness I love this sooo much.
We don't see nough of Lance, Keira and Catalina in this fandom and we DEFINITELY don't see enough of them interacting with Cass!
I mean I know Keira and Catalina barely saw her in the show but I just know they'd of loved her xD she's sassy and cool and has a good sword collection!
And Lance and Cass' friendship in S2 even thought it's only small things is so wholesome and sweet.
I love the poses in this so much! Cass looks so proud and Catalina?!??! she looks adorable! They all do but her especially, sitting back with her dad?? Love every part of this piece.

Cassandra Appreciation Month - Prompt Week - Day 7: Legacy
Final piece of art for Prompt Week!!
This was probably my favourite to make (process wise), and my least favourite results wise.
Also not my best idea.... I didn't really know what to do with Legacy so I just drew a scene from the fic I did for today.
Quality probably isn't great because the image was too large for tumblr (fair). I compressed it but Tumblr wouldn't stop giving me errors until eventually I just took a screenshot of the original art and posted that (for some reason that worked).
So yeah, I tried.
I think if you stand back and squint this is a good piece of art XD
