Yawn-off! We got ourselves a yawn-off everyone!
Male sarcastic fringeheads use their massive jaws to size up their rivals—sadly for the more thoughtful fringeheads, the guy with the biggest mouth usually wins…
YASSSS I LOVE THEM!

Need some cuttles?
We’ve got you covered. Ten new common cuttlefish are making themselves at home in our Tentacles special exhibition!
A young cuttlefish peeks out from the seagrass.
At just eight months old, the cuttlefish are a bit shy and frequently bury themselves in the sand and use their color-changing skills (thanks to special cells called chromatophores) to blend in with the substrate.
No cuttlefish to see here, move along!
Aquarist Ellen Umeda explains, “A few of the more adventurous animals will rest on the rocks or peek out through the seagrass. As the animals get older, they emerge from the sand and hang out in the water column more often.”
This cuttlefish has perched on rocks and changed its colors to blend in.
Ellen and the cephalopod team feed the young cephalopods small fish called silversides. As the animals grow, aquarists will add larger food, such as shrimp, to their diets.
A fully-grown cuttlefish can reach a majestic two feet long.
You can spot these common cuttlefish and see their nifty camouflage abilities at work in our special exhibition Tentacles: The Astounding Lives of Octopuses, Squid and Cuttlefishes. Look for them just across from the flamboyant cuttlefish.

Fun fact: It was created as a way to debunk the idea of astrology, by showing how all the celestial bodies followed predictable paths.
