There. Finally i got to draw Dorian.Â
Favourite mustache of all times Ô (âà·ŽâÔ )
but my mom said his mustache makes him looks really pervertedâŠ
âSuch vulgarities, Ser Paâ Dorian. Yes⊠but, you would have  lasted longer if youâd paid  attention.â  Heâs grinning, now, leaning back  in his chair as he watches Dorian.  âDid you want to try again, or are  you good for the evening?â
The quick change from proper to casual eases the tension in his shoulders. Â Dorian relaxes in his seat and rolls his eyes. Â âIâd say you benefited from my distraction, Commander. Â Seize every opportunity that arises.â Â He glances at the board. Â With a long sigh, he declines. Â âIâd say this loss has satisfied my appetite for chess for a time.â Â Dorian remains seated and closes his eyes. The scuffle of footstepsâdistant yet loud and almost jarringâremind him of this place, of Skyhold. Â This may not be his home, but it is a home for the time being. Â âHow do you unwind?â he asks abruptly. Â âI would understand if you insisted that you donât, simply based on how you are every day, but nonetheless...â
Heâs concerned, eyebrows furrowed a little as he eyes Dorianâ but heâs not sure to press the matter, not noâ or even how. âYou might have a point, but either wayâŠâ He tries smirking, now, attempting somewhat to bring Dorianâs mood down, assuming a playful rivalry in loss will help- âCheckmate.â
Dorian exhales, glancing at the garden.  Tending to the herbs in the garden might help.  Only when Cullen gives a smug sort of response does Dorian turn back to the game.  He eyes the board quickly and mutters, âFuck.â He resumes his normal façade, a smirk plastering itself to his lips.  Dorian crosses his legs and leans back in his seat.  âSeems Iâve been outwit.â

This, finally, causes Cullen to look up from the game, hands folded. Heâs lost focus on the game but his strategy has only three more movesâ heâs fine, game-wise, but worried he had missed something going on with the mage. âI have.â He speaks quietly, eyeing Dorian from across the table, âAnd Iâm sorry that youâve had to face that.â
Maybe Cullen understands more than Dorian gives him credit for, but it doesnât matter. Â The thumb swiping blood over his temple, the way his fatherâs eyes burned fear into his own âno one understands that. Â He leans back in his seat, feet flat on the ground. Â Dorianâs knees press together, and his arms fall over his stomach. Â âThanks,â he mutters in a half-hearted tone.
âI donât quite understand you.â Avoided, a man lost in the manoeuvre. A nevessary loss, however, opening up several new techniques. One life for many. âHow would loyalty ruin a relationship?â Dorian seems tenseâ and Cullen stills, piece in hand but decided to chalk it up to just another thing of the magesâ that Cullen doesnât understand, knowing better than to pry. He figured if Dorian wished to discuss whatever made his knuckles so taut, he would.
Dorianâs body relaxes, eyes somewhat dead. Â He doesnât want to discuss this loyalty nonsense anymore, but he has a point he needs to make. Â Cullen wonât understand unless he makes it clear. Â Dorian takes a bishop after a moment of hesitation and glances up at the commander. Â âYouâve never been betrayed, have you?â Â His voice loses its quirkinessânow itâs a deeper shade of who he was. Â âYouâve never had to face the fact that someone who is supposed to be on your side, no matter what, turns on you.â
âYou choose to follow the inquisition. Still loyalty. Blind loyalty is⊠Less so.â A moments grace; said knight slipping past a castle, pawn in position. âMy turn for check. Watch your men⊠Dorian.â Perhaps he had a soft spot.
Dorian glances at the board and moves his king. Â Checkâavoided for nowâis the least of his worries. Â He remembers a hand over his, showing him techniques in this game. Â He remembers the gentle guidance and kind words when he faulted. Â Dorian sucks in a sharp breath. Â Hands on the arms of the chair, he feels binds on his wrists again, and magic. Â He bites his lower lip until the pain tears him from the memory. Â Dorian licks at the blood on the inside of his lip and he looks back at the board. Â Focus, he tells himself, focus on anything else. âBlind loyalty can ruin the best relationships.â
âHow is it not loyalty?â Cullen frowns at his next words; eyeing the board. Clearlyâ heâd missed it, a rogue little bishop past his knight. Maker spare him, he was not about to loseâ âThat is check, youâre right. Hm. And you, Ser Pavus, are loyal to our cause, no? Unless you have some sort of double agent thing going on, thereâs no reason to deny your loyalty.â
Cullen has a point. Â If choosing to follow the Inquisition isnât loyalty... Â He glances at the board briefly but looks back to the garden. Â The Royal Elfroot needs tending, Dorian thinks. Â His twitching fingers and foot ease. Â âIâve told you I dislike that moniker. Â Is it so difficult to simply call me Dorian?â Â He exhales. Â âI suppose youâre right... but itâs not blind loyalty. Â Itâs a choice.â
âBut youâre loyal again, arenât you? To the inquisition, now, but still loyal.â Another move; Dorian is distracting himself, but Cullen sees none of it. He speaks almost mechanically, only occasionally looking up to reply. âYour turn.â
âI wouldnât call it loyalty.â Â No, Dorian chose this cause. Â Heâs not loyal to it. Â Itâs an ever-possibly-changing decision that he continues to make for the Inquisition. Â He purses his lips, glancing at the board. Â This could be an easy win. Â A smile forms on his lips. Â Dorian leans forward and moves. Â âThatâs check.â
âSnake venom and red lyrium are tangible things, though.â He thus pauses as well, watching Dorian somewhat curiously. âI see how it could go wrong, but being loyal⊠With no context, simply the idea of being loyal is again, not necessarily a flaw. So Iâm not certain I see your point.â
âLoyalty can be just as tangible,â he mutters. Â Dorian crosses his legs, one foot twitching. Â Itâs irritating how gullible Cullen can be. Â âLoyalty can lead you to follow something you donât believe in. Â It can lead to living in a cage of something you canât find your way out of. Â All simply for the sake of loyalty.â He spits the last word out like the venom he compared it to. Â

âThey always talk. Always will talk.  You should hear the things they  say about the other advisorsâŠâ He chuckles shortly, tilting his head slightly into Dorianâs touch, kissing him with a newfound ease before pulling back, both arms wound about the magisterâs waist. âTen pieces says itâs blood magic before soul sucking, however.â
Dorian exhales, fingertips caressing the nape of Cullenâs neck, and he almost giggles.  Almost.  âWhat do they say about Josie?â he asks.  His eyes close and his back arches slightly.  Dorian peers back at Cullen with a thin smirk.  âI shouldnât take that bet,â he purrs, pressing a kiss to Cullenâs jaw, âbut I might have to.â
âIâm⊠Iâm quite good. I have other matters  to attend to.â I am a big, manly man in much pain. Bested by a mage. âThank you for the match, however. Perhaps  next time you could⊠refrain from such things.â Heâs praying to Andraste the blush has died.
Dorian shrugs.  âToo bad.â  He exhales and turns away from the commander.  âI have to keep you on your toes,â he replies with a small smile.  âAnd,â he adds after he steps away from Cullen, âI have to have my own fun too.â
