it’s not y2k anymore, entertainment companies don’t go out looking for young men with shitty home lives to pick up and train because they don’t have anywhere else to go and too much talent to be wasted at bars. and yet somehow, here adam is. across the pacific ocean, in the land of his grandparents and their forefathers, miraculously being plucked out of the dungeon into a three year - strong group who just lost its main dancer.
what the fuck is he doing here ? he’s a singer, for chrissakes, and just because he has a bit of rhythm doesn’t mean he’s just ready to fill xuedong’s spot like that.
---- oh, fuck, it feels weird to say his name.
adam and xuedong weren’t close by any means. even if xuedong was all sunshine and kindness, taking every younger trainee under his wing like fucking mother goose or someshit. no, adam was never pure enough for that. but since xuedong’s gone now, torn out the heart of his group while he was at it, they needed someone to fill up his spot, even if the group had been promoting as three for a long time before the official announcement. they couldn’t change the name to 3seasons, that’d be dumb. and so thus, they needed adam.
it sucks balls, it really does, to have been a replacement all his life. his first foster family lost an infant and picked him up as a toddler to hopefully fill out that void, while also avoiding the terrible twos. when they learned he was dyslexic and liked the color pink a lot, they dropped him back off, citing behavioral issues. the second and third are kind of a blur, he was never with them for longer than a few years, and they were just hoping to use him as a sibling for their only child so they could teach the snot - nosed brats how to share. when adam turned out not to be as compliant as one should be to be used as a learning tool, back to the foster home he went.
and then after the fourth, he got too old for people to care, because most families just want little cute babies they can watch grow, rather than foul - tempered teenagers kicked out of too many homes to believe anyone really cared. busking on the street earns him a flyer, which gets him an audition, which gets him a plane ticket all the way to korea, where he’s spent the last three years hoping he’d get some sort of notoriety.
maybe he’d get his birth parents, whoever the fuck they were, to notice him once he debuted. or maybe not.
maybe he’d just be a replacement. again.
the pann headlines certainly seem to reinforce that notion.
