I'm just saying. Pretty sure Baby Boomers have been voting a hell of a lot longer than millennials. And Gen X'ers and generation Y for that matter.
Imagine that you're on a road trip. This is all hypothetical of course. Mom and Dad are up front, you, an older sibling and younger sibling are in the back. They've been driving a while but pull over because they're lost. As they study the map.
Your older sibling says to Dad "Google Maps says to go left." Dad says "Son/Daughter I have a map right here. Now please just sit down and be quiet." After a while of going no where, your younger sibling starts complaining of having to go to the bathroom. Mom says "You'll have to hold it till we get there. Now please just sit there and be quiet." With a sign for a rest stop with bathrooms 1 mile ahead right behind her. So to distract your younger sibling you start taking silly pictures. "Quiet please." Says Dad.
After a while of panning over the map, Dad has found his way. But he turns to the oldest of your siblings "Hey why don't you drive for a while. Just go right out of here." Excited your older brother/sister jumps behind the wheel. With Dad in the passenger seat away you all go. "See I can figure it out without your Google. All you kids did was sit on those phones, just taking pictures of yourselves. See that's what's wrong with kids today, non of you did anything to help. You're so preoccupied with yourselves. You never thought to help your old man find his way."
Just then the car runs out of Gas. While going over the map, no one thought to shut the car off. Mom and Dad look around at the kids and say "Now we're stuck out here because your sibling here used up all the gas driving. Please just sit there and be quiet while we figure this out."
That's pretty much the best analogy I could come up with for how the generations I grew up with feel right now. We're just kids in the backseat. Yet somehow, we are to blame for the current situation. Because we sat quietly while mom and dad figured it out. And the only time we get to drive is on an empty tank.
The lesson is this, we all have to take responsibility for our action or inaction. And if your driving the car, always make sure you have enough gas and admit when you get lost.
Tyler Does the west! PART 1.
Last year I had an idea to take a trip around The great American West as I like to call it. At the time I was in a relationship with someone I though was an amazing woman at the time. Whome has since broke my heart, sad face. During all of this I was also (and still am) in Paramedic school. Needless to say, it’s been a stressful year. But with paramedic school I was able to take off almost three weeks from work. Giving me all the time I would need to drive to California from Milwaukee. This trip was something I desperately needed in my life.
My route was to travel through Denver, the rocky mountains, then Utah, Nevada and finally hitting California. The original itinerary called for one night in Denver, then camp one or two days in Zion National park. After all that I would head to Los Angeles. There I would visit with my best friend Sean Drews and my Sister Monica who both live in the L.A. area. Then up the coast to Portland and Seattle. Loop back around through the northwest and back to Milwaukee. All that was definitely going to be a lot of driving. But once I was on the road I thought to myself “fuck the itinerary”. The morning I left was full of having to run around and take care of all sorts of misc. tasks on only 3 hours of sleep. So I wound up not getting under way until 11:30. Now I had the lofty goal of making it to Denver on the first day. But I hit the Nebraska Iowa border around 9pm and was crashing hard. After sending out a desperate message all over CouchSurfing.com it seemed I was shit outta luck. But then, when I was debating sleeping in a rest stop, or getting a hotel.I got a message from an Angel named Jennifer in Lincoln Nebraska. You see I had sent her roommate a message earlier and they already had some people staying at their apartment so I was told sorry No Vacancies. But now with my obviously desperate need for a place to sleep. The Jenn’s offered me a nice spot on the floor which was surprisingly comfortable. The next morning the other three guests, Jenn and I all went out to breakfast. Much to my surprise Lincoln is an actual city. With nice restaurants, not chili’s or Olive Garden, but real restaurants. And other eclectic shops and bars. My experience with the first day definitely set the tone for the trip ahead.

Professional Man of Leisure
So I decided to start a blog now as I have been thinking of doing so for a while now. See I am many things, Firefighter, Veteran, Traveler, person, Lyft Driver, dude, ect. ect. But what I truly feel is my profession is leisure. Not just lounging around lazily doing nothing, but doing a variety of things for the fun of it. So I thought to myself, why not share my experiences with all 4 people who will probably follow this blog.(HI MOM!)
Game time: Drink every time I say Leisure. I double dare you haha!
So I should define what Leisure means to me. When I hear Leisure I think of things that relax me. Whether its something like going to the gym, or just sitting outside my favorite bar drinking far too much tequila.Leisurely activities are things we do for the sake of doing them. These are you’re hobbies, interests, things that clear your head. It can be hard to clearly define what a hobby or Leisurely activity is because it can vary from person to person.
There is a saying that the most beautiful Diamonds are those with many facets. This is a great metaphor for life in my mind. Some of the happiest people I’ve met have a great deal of facets to their lives. But its not about doing things with the pressure of other peoples expectations. But for the sake of enjoying what your doing and who you’re with. And not doing the exact same thing day in and day out. And like a diamond, we can be just clear rocks, but through our experiences and hobbies they add facets to our lives. So I guess that’s my hippy thoughts for this post haha.
Okay, now onto how I decided to start this blog. The week before I wrote this I was out in California. I had driven from my home in Milwaukee Wisconsin all the way to the coast. With some planned and unplanned stops. With all that driving I had a lot of time to think. So I though how great it would be to share in some of the experiences I had a long the way. Whilst I was making new friends in Moab Utah, I was talking about an idea for a Podcast where I asked random people a randomly selected line of 20 questions. (Which will be a part of this Blog) Then I realized that I should just start a blog where I can write about all the neat things that I have seen/done/heard of. Because that is my number one hobby, exploring the world around me, meeting new people and acquiring new hobbies. So after being home for a few days now earlier than expected due to a family emergency. I decided in my hungover state this Saturday the 11th of July that today was the day I attempt to become internet famous with a blog... key word is attempt.
So its a little hard for me to describe exactly what is going to be posted in this blog. Because its going to be a Hodge podge of different experiences and things that I have found through my Leisurely activities or while discovering new leisurely activities. But I’m glad to share my adventures with you and hope that you can share with me what you do for Leisure.
As we say in my Jiu Jitsu school, LETS DO THIS!
(Sorry for all the typos, I’m definitely not the best writer or speller)
