I don't have a story about being I secured about the skin I'm in, being too dark or not light enough, being told I was pretty to be dark skinned. Truth is I've always been comfortable with my appearance. In fact my first time being exposed to the issue of colorism was when I witnessed the famous doll test of Kenneth and Mamie Clark. It broke my heart to see young black girls classifying themselves and all that looked just as them as not pretty enough or too dark. My eyes opened then. I had been apart and a contributor of colorism. How do we solve this growing issue in our community!? The same way we need to solve most issues that we have been suffering under for centuries.... education! Educate our youth to love themselves and to live above what society says is beautiful.
