“Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of eternal passion. That is just being “in love” which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love, have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.”
15 Prettiest Cakes
You don’t have to choose a cookie-cutter wedding cake -— make a style statement! From modern designs to romantic flowers and hand-painted illustrations, these cakes are sure to inspire you.
A fitting motif to consider: your wedding gown. An eyelet-inspired design gives this cake character. The girlish fabric takes on a sassy edge when translated into frosting.
This white cake is anything but boring! Layers of hand-rolled fondant create a rippled-wave look—proof that a simple design can make a big impact. A classic cascade of sugar flowers adds a touch of tradition.
Covered in sugar-made pearls and topped with a delicate sugar flower, this Gatsby-inspired cake is sure to turn heads. The asymmetrical stacking of the tiers is a fresh take on the classic construction.
A garden, barn or backyard reception calls for a cake with bucolic beauty. Soft mint icing sets the stage for an eye-catching bouquet of just-picked garden flowers. Gold and pearl details give the cake a touch of glamour and sophistication.
Your cake is kind of like the masterpiece of your day, so why not treat it like a canvas? Pick anything you want (like the design of your invitations) and have it painted onto your cake!
Forgo sugar flowers in favor of an illustrated design. A delicate floral motif is hand-painted onto each tier, making this dessert a real piece of art.
This simple, all-white design is full of frilly texture. Each layer has its own smattering of three-dimensional petals, giving the cake a fanciful look and feel.
Clean lines are accentuated with this sophisticated spin on the chevron pattern. Pearlized fondant is elegantly draped over individual tiers creating a graphic-yet-stately look and feel.
This blue and white modern wedding cake is wrapped in sugar bows and finished off with an edible ink phrase: “All You Need Is Love.” Borrow from The Beatles’s famous lyrics, or choose a favorite line from your vows or a beloved poem for an extra-special touch.
Here’s another artful idea—have the cake itself take on an ombre look. Add texture to tiers (like this layered design) for a more rustic and organic feel. Light shades of yellow and ivory keep this cake looking fresh.
Gold foil isn’t just for stationery—metallics are popping up in everything from paper and shoes to layers of cake. Hand-painted watercolor tiers add a splash of pink and keep the gold from feeling garish. An acrylic “Mr. and Mrs.” topper is a contemporary take on the classic bride and groom.
A piped graphic pattern adds depth and deliciousness to every square tier of this fresh and modern design. The varying sized layers give the cake an unexpected twist on the traditional all-white design.
A classic round cake is the perfect backdrop for pattern and embellishments. Here, the iconic heart is repeated in a Swiss-dot pattern, giving it a fresh look without overpowering the cake’s design. Pops of metallic add glitz!
A stunning wedding cake can be the piece de resistance of your reception. Sweeping lavender sugar roses and pleated ribbons cascade down the side of this five-tier cake. The draped effect is both elegant and awe-inspiring.
Take your classic white cake from simple to chic with an ombre element, like this cascade of teal ruffles. This simple detail adds a pop of color and a playful touch to the design.

4 DIY Traps You Need to Look Out For
Creating décor details for your wedding can be a really fun, meaningful experience. Not only can it give you a chance to bond and create memories with whoever is helping you make the items—your mom, your bridesmaids, your fiancé—but DIY-ing can give you a real sense of pride.
That said, some projects are certainly harder to complete than others: In fact, some DIYs you see on wedding blogs and in magazines might be difficult, if not impossible, to replicate on your own. Before you take on a project, keep these following four DIY traps in mind so you don’t end up frustrated and covered in glitter.
The materials to make the item are pricier than buying the item pre-made.
Before you embark on a DIY, price out all of the materials you’ll need, from the items to make the project to the tools you might need to use. Often, purchasing all of these things can be more expensive than just buying whatever it is pre-made by a crafting pro on a site like Etsy. These expert crafters can often buy materials wholesale and in bulk, plus they already have all the tools they need, making purchasing an already-assembled DIY cheaper in many cases.
The project is super messy.
Crafting is all about getting your hands dirty, but just how dirty you want to get depends on you. Anytime you’re working with glitter, spray glue, and/or paint, you’re bound to end up sticky—and your workspace will likely get more than a little messy, too. Evaluate if you really want to vacuum up glitter for the next year before diving in.
Making the item will take longer than expected.
Especially if you’re contemplating making a DIY the month of your wedding, make sure that you’re realistic about how many hours it might take you. Remember: Even if the project’s instructions claim that the DIY will be completed within an hour, that doesn’t mean it will take you that amount of time. If you’re not particularly crafty or have a couple false starts, it could take days to get a finished product you’re happy with.
The project requires some serious crafting skills.
It’s also crucial to evaluate your crafting abilities before taking on a DIY project. If a project requires a steady hand, the use of power tools, tons of patience, or any skill you don’t particularly have, it’s likely not worth your time and energy. Many DIYs you see are put together by professionals and then photographed just so—your end result may look very, very different than the inspiration you’re trying to copy.
