INDEPENDANT PROJECT - IDEA ARCHEOLOGY
INDEPENDANT PROJECT - IDEA ARCHEOLOGY
Some hand drawn text.
INDEPENDANT PROJECT - IDEA ARCHEOLOGY
Playing around with different text and imagery.
INDEPENDANT PROJECT - IDEA ARCHEOLOGY
Here are some examples of using Photoshop to play around with textures and composition.
INDEPENDANT PROJECT - IDEA ARCHEOLOGY
I like the idea of texture that is not so computerised here but I have slightly rendered the images to make sure that the lines will print properly when it comes to making the book.
INDEPENDANT PROJECT - IDEA ARCHEOLOGY
I want the book to have a hand-drawn feel to it but also want to experiment and explore how I can enhance my drawings using computer aided design using Photoshop and InDesign. This, I think will be the front cover of the book. I’ve scanned in my drawing from my sketch book and used computerised text on photoshop.

POEM.

Father. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Grief for one is that.
Passing along.
What is it you said,
When the woods fell down?
A martyr?
A sinner?
Nothing.
Nothing at all.
Nothing to me.
Do you remember?
NO.
But why?
For one.
For all?
For ME?
For me?
For you.
Us?
We…
That does not exist.
But has it?
I do not know.
I do not remember.
INDEPENDANT PROJECT - IDEA ARCHEOLOGY
TUTORIAL 1
I’ve been reading too much into the idea of the line between the fine art world and illustration and need to focus more on the making of things. This idea is something that I want to read up on and try and back up what I am saying but I only have a week left on this project so it is something that should and will come within my independent practice thought this year.
So thinking about where to take this now...
I want to incorporate the poetry into this project but not think about it too much and make a personal zine/ book with imagery that relates to the poem.
INDEPENDANT PROJECT - IDEA ARCHEOLOGY
For this project, my main focus is going to be communicating poetry through different media and themes. My main focus will not be on the poems themselves, but on the emphasis of the exploration of pushing the boundaries of what can be classed as visual communication within illustration as a discipline. This idea of pushing the boundary between illustration and fine art is an integral part of my practice that I want to explore further. I intend to collate this information in a body of work which I will display in a book format.

PLAY PROJECT - CONCEAL
Here, moving along with the religious theme from the collage workshop, shrines just seemed to be a natural progression of the theme in my head. I made a super quick 3D shrine tucked away in an alcove in my house. The idea of concealing the shrine comes from the idea of people using cupboards and tiny boxes to conceal little shrines to things that do not want the outside world to see.

PLAY PROJECT - OBSTRUCTION
Here, I used the same technique as the one for the tree that I made. I drew patterns onto A3 newsprint using Indian Ink, scrumpled the paper into ball shapes and taped a string them. Then I taped them to the ceiling in my bedroom. THEY WERE SO ANNOYING. Constantly batting them off really ticked people off!!!

PLAY PROJECT - COLLAGE WORKSHOP
The second term that I had was “Strange Fascination” and there were also print outs of anatomical drawings of babies in the womb that clearly weren’t in the right position for someone to give birth to them. I found them strangely fascinating so decided to use the theme of pregnancy with anatomical stuff. I like this one, it’s kind of morbid and macabre and thats something I would like to take a little further in my independent practice along with the religious themes.

PLAY PROJECT - COLLAGE WORKSHOP
In the studio: Roderick’s workshop really got me into this project. I guess it was the idea of being given limited resources, time and a theme that just made me get on with it without thinking too much. I had the term “THE PRETENDER” and with the religious/ medieval imagery given, I made the link to an idea that ‘God’ is a ‘pretender’ and I guess ‘mother earth’ controls what goes on here.
I cut out the imagery of a religious higher being that I deciphered as a God and stuck it to the top of the page. As the printouts were tonal I wanted to play around with this and leave colour out of it. The layering of tracing paper and text is my favourite part about the image. It was some kind of verse in latin, so inherently it linked to the religious theme.
With the rest, I played around with pattern and extending the scence at the bottom with my own marks along with the print out depicting a sense of hell/earthly stuff.
