Multimedia Development and Editing

At the beginning of this course, I was very excited to begin the class Multimedia Journalism. With my background in Digital film and video production, I knew I would thrive in the technical aspect. My expectations of the course Multimedia Journalism were simple. Pass the class, and intake as much information as possible. I thought that this course would focus on the video elements in editing. I liked the fact that it actually involved photos and narration because it gave me a new outlook on editing.

This course’s expectations of myself, were to interact with my classmates on a weekly basis. Sharing ideas and appropriate hyperlinks to the weekly discussion. As well as shooting, writing, and editing various narratives, podcasts and slideshows with adobe spark. I enjoyed the lessons provided by my professor in the weekly content. I enjoyed how all the information and lessons that were provided were things that I could actually take and utilize even outside of the classroom. Week 3’s assignment titled ‘Web Design and Development’ had to be the most influential content. I appreciated the MDV website assignment. It helped me realize what my website Mouth Made Entertainment needed as far as SEO is concerned. That content was the most helpful to my learning experience.

This course prepared me for my career as a journalist in various ways. I am prepared in editing and creating videos on Adobe Spark. I fully understand how to compliment narration for newsworthy content on my website. As a journalist it is important to create content in various ways. This is also a great way to interact with my audience and gain new visitors in the process.

I am very grateful that this course is offered at Full Sail University. I will always remember this course along my mastery journey. I look forward to the next course.

Research and Investigation Skills

Looking back to my first month at Full Sail University, I originally set three goals for each class during my mastery journey in Media Journalism. The course, Research and Investigation Skills Development, has been a joy to complete by far. My expectations of this course were met exceptionally. A short-term goal of mine is to become a news anchor. I feel this course has molded me into a creative force when it comes to interviews and content to report on. While having my background in Digital Film and Video Production, I felt like with this course I was beginning to come full circle in my career. I was able to grasp the understanding of the massive shifts in my field involving content to create, in addition to staying in my lane. I always wanted to learn different methods to research and delivering content to my audience, I achieved my goal and obtained additional knowledge.

This course helped me learned various methods that I will use in my journalist career. The three most helpful pieces of information I learned that I will hold dear, were tough to narrow down. During week 2, we were given transcripts in order to promote on social media. I felt this was very important because, social media is the future of publication. I appreciated the information on how to effectively gather and conduct the ideal interview. In conclusion, the most vital piece of information I received during this course was to always provide relatable information to the beat of your website. The knowledge that I obtained in this course will stick with me forever. I viewed this course as the top three on my list here at Full Sail University. I now feel confident in researching an expert, interviewee and successfully conducting interviews. I look forward to applying the knowledge I have gained in this course to my career.

Legal Aspects of Media

I appreciate all the information my brain has retained from this course! The course Legal Aspects of Media was everything I expected and more. I was able to fully submerge myself in law and order related to my field of Journalism. This is one step closer over in creating a strategic plan in order to obtain as much knowledge as possible in my field. This class is very important to a Media Journalist, and I made sure to dedicate 100% of my time to this course.

My favorite assignment during this course had to be during week three. We discussed Copyright law and Infringement. I loved the discussion post and interacting with my classmates about this important subject. I enjoyed reading the feedback from my fellow classmates and responding. I particularly loved this assignment because as a creative person it’s always a good thing to know how your protected and against what your protected from. That assignment really helped me in protecting not only my work but what I can use under Fair Use as well. Not only was it a challenge but an overall success in my eyes.

I am glad that have this class listed in the course list. Of the course topics covered this month, I think Commercial Speech will be most helpful to me a communications professional. Not only will I deal with this daily in my career, but I will also come across tasks or assignments that deal with Commercial Speech and I must know how to handle the situation. The knowledge I acquired this month will prepare me to handle potential legal issues in the communications industry indefinitely! I can honestly day with my reading and intensive notes I will be prepared for any potential legal issues. Making me capable of making correct decisions involving the issues.

New Media Journalism- Final Project

As I reflect my final course here at Full Sail University, I am delighted to have gained knowledge that will guide me in my journalism career. My original objective for this course were met without a doubt. I wanted to create a project that showcased my talent as a writer and journalist. The New Media Journalism- Final project course taught me how to reflect on already published projects and to develop a detailed thesis. The content included in my final project raised awareness to why Florida has lost its prominence within the entertainment industry. Fully developing my thesis really helped understand the importance of my overall project. I’ve learned the importance of distribution and communication after the article has been published. The content that I learned in this course will help me for the rest of my career. I enjoyed learning how to utilize APA style writing. I also learned how to successfully plan follow-up stories. The importance of follow up stories help build more credibility to your original story. It also helps with including additional information, or an in-depth explanation to the previous topic.

I plan on applying what I’ve learned in this course daily while starting my career in journalism, specifically with my writing. Regarding future articles that I post, I will continue to include follow up stories. I want to make sure my readers are fully knowledgeable on the content I post, especially with modern day topics and issues. I am very grateful for the course timeline Full Sail University has provided through my master’s degree. Personally, I think this course has prepared me for the writing side of journalism. I wanted to learn how to not only inform my audience but to captivate them from my topic and distribution process. I would like to acknowledge my professors and the resources that have helped me along the way on my journey. I whole heartedly enjoyed my time at Full Sail University and I look forward to graduation.

New Media Publishing and Distribution

I often reminisce about the beginning of my journey, and how successful I have been along the way. I am forever grateful for the staff and resources at Full Sail University. I was excited and anxious to complete my capstone project. I carefully thought about my topic, only choosing a topic that I connected with personally. My expectation of the course was to figure out how to gain revenue through the content I post on my website and social media. I also wanted to learn effective ways to promote and distribute to my audience. I am fortunate to have completed my mastery timeline goals I created in my first course. I have located and researched companies that I would like to work for in the future. I have adopted a new way to carefully review my content before posting. While also networking with various outlets through social media to create relationships.

The courses expectations were for the student to learn how to marry journalism fundamentals with the technologies of interactive publishing. While evaluating and discussing marketing strategies. Throughout this course I found all the resources and lectures useful. However, the content that I found to be the most effective was our week 4 assignment involving the media kit and distribution for employers. I really appreciated how the professor incorporated examples and useful links to aid the process. I felt this to be helpful in my learning experience because in my career as a journalist I will always have to publish content. The media kit helped my branding and credibility. I will take learning how to effectively publish content on social media to gain traffic and exposure with me forever.

Undeniably, this course has prepared my future in journalism. I enjoyed how the capstone project included every topic that I would face in my career. I feel a confident boost when I post content to my audience. Future journalists that attend Full Sail will appreciate this course. Not only for the conclusion of the capstone project, but for confidence and reassurance. Words cannot express the gratitude and respect I have for my professor. I look forward to my final course at Full Sail University.

Social Media and Online Engagement

I can honestly say that my goals for the Social Media and Online Community Engagement course were met. When I first started the course, I had doubts on the process of creating and obtaining traffic to my website. My goals were to develop an app that depicts my brand and social awareness, understand the importance of social media, and to learn ways to utilize various platforms. Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and Google Plus are all platforms that I have been able to gain traffic to my website. The course requirements required students to utilize social media to promote their content and gain traffic to their website. As a journalist, I believe social media is vital. I appreciate the many lectures and additional resources my professor has provided over the semester. My tactics and strategy for the course were simple, learn as much as possible.

I am amazed at the tools and resources various social media platforms provide for journalists. I now view social media as a networking and marketing tool. When I began the course at FullSail University, I wasn’t aware about the importance of community engagement. I can now say with confidence I am an expert on posting engaging content. I am glad this course is required for a master’s degree in journalism. I think all upcoming journalists should take this course serious. Throughout the course, my favorite assignment that would help me with my future journalist career was our week three assignment. That assignment required me to interview an expert in my field that was related to my capstone project. I enjoyed networking with experts and getting their opinion on issues surrounding our industry. I feel as a journalist it’s very important to network and learn the about different ways to promote my content. I am grateful for my professor, and all of her resources she has provided. I look forward to my next course on my mastery journey.

Public Relations and Reputation Management

I must say, my journey here at Full Sail University has been very fulfilling. I can almost feel my degree in my hand, as I walk across the stage! The course Public Relations and Reputation Management has been such a great help with my journey into journalism, and the entertainment industry. From the course, to Dr. Carstens, I’ve had more than enough to excel beyond this platform. My original objective for this course was to learn the importance of my reputation and how to aid others in need. Before taking this course I immediately connected with this course as I browsed through the course list for this degree. I am very grateful that Full Sail University has provided aspiring journalists with a course with real life lessons. For example, the importance of the relationship between PR professionals and journalists. At first hand, I never understood how much we rely on each other in the industry. Dr. Carstens and his lessons provided so much insight and valuable information that I will carry along my journey, even after graduation.

The importance of the reputation of a journalist will not only boost their image, but I think will make them even more credible when publishing news content. Everything that I have obtained and learned in this course will follow me personally and professionally. I now feel like I can network with PR professionals with confidence. Knowing how to speak up and successfully communicate in order to please our clients. My original goals for this course have been met exceptionally. I am now more aware of my energy and how to direct it in my career. Whether I am working alone or in collaboration, I will have more confidence. I view this course for all aspiring journalists as a major key to being successful. You have to know yourself before you can work with others. I strongly think this eliminates future misunderstandings, that could possibly hurt my brand. I look forward to the final stretch here at Full Sail University. As I get close to graduation, I feel connected to my field and industry more than ever. The course Multimedia Recording had a huge significance regarding my deep connection to my studies. Before taking this course, I had an original objective to learn new ways to deliver content to my audience. Upon completing this course, I can definitely say that I have gained more knowledge than expected in terms of new ways to gaining my audience, keeping my audience and of course tracking my audience.

I viewed this course as an outline for success. In my opinion, the notes and additional reading helped my mental state as I begun to create my style of journalism. In my eyes that was overall preparation for the real world and how to deal with certain content. I was able to utilize my knowledge of visual storytelling for newsworthy content on my website. During this semester I was also able to learn new software to track my audience. This proved to be successful because I was able to track popular topics deemed by my audience, making it easy to create content they were genuinely interested in. Lastly, I took additional steps in fully understanding story advancement. I’ve successfully completed my goals that were set forth for this course.

I learned how to effectively master event reporting and utilize SEO data. Due to the beat of my website, event reporting plays a huge part in the content on my website. Entertainment is such a broad topic that actually works in my favor regarding event reporting. While covering events, I will always have mobile allies to work with. Thanks to live streaming on social media. I view this as an easy way to interact with my audience prior to publication. Personally, I can take all the tools and resources I’ve gained and apply it to my work ethic. I appreciated the virtual classes hosted by my professor. She really explained how to exceptionally master multimedia reporting through her discussion posts and assignments. In conclusion, I thank Full Sail University for this course. I can see this course being one of my favorites within my mastery journey.

Digital News Production

My mastery journey has become influential as I continue to add skills to my repertoire. As month seven in my Mastery Journey comes to an end, I am excited about the knowledge I have obtained. As I think back to the beginning of the course, all of my expectations have been met. I wanted to fully grasp and understand the need of Digital News Production. Initially I wanted to research all the major networks that provide newsworthy content. I can say with confidence that I am well aware of the news production process. The course expectations in digital news production expectations were well detailed. I was expected to create initial posts and discuss it amongst my classmates. Weekly assignments that were broken down into sub categories involving news production, leading to the final assignments that incorporated all elements. Lastly, I was expected to maintain professionalism by providing feedback to my classmates.

The content I felt was the most helpful to my learning experience was undeniably the week three assignment. During week 3 of the course, we were required to create a newsworthy article for our website while recording and including live interviews. I think this was very helpful because it sparked a new love for creating broadcast style cover stories. I learned how to research information and form a newsworthy story with interviews and soundbites. This course without a doubt prepared me for my career as a journalist. Everything from the information on the virtual class, to the required reading and various assignments were vital for my career and journey. I am very grateful that Full Sail University has a course like this for individuals who have an interest in becoming a journalist. I look forward to my next course in Multimedia Reporting. My next set of goals consist of me obtaining knowledge on how to further conduct on camera reports.

Writing For Interactive Media

I have been very grateful and excited, as I embark on my journey here at Full Sail University. The Writing for Interactive Media course has proven to be substantial in my Mastery Journey. Upon completing this course, I set goals in order to improve my writing style as well as structure. I learned valuable gems in order to obtain a professional and meaningful website. My professor was very informative and made sure to be available for all questions. One of the things I really enjoyed about the course was how the assignments really made think about what I wanted to really do when it comes to writing. I appreciated all the notes that this course provided. The additional content was a bonus in my opinion. I have always been in love with writing.

This course taught teach me how to successfully write for interactive media, which is considered an upcoming trend in my field. I was able to accomplish some of my short-term goals while studying in this course. Connecting my brand while using interactive media was a huge step in really showcasing my talents. Utilizing the material for the course helped me understand how to better reach my audience. My writing structure has become more effective, and this is proven through traffic gain on my website. My traffic and clicks to articles that I post have increased tremendously. I receive a lot of comments under my articles saying how much they appreciate my information as well as being entertained.

I plan on doubling my traffic for the new year by utilizing new methods in order to reach and interact with my audience. While forming a bond that will last a lifetime. I can see how important this course is for a future journalist. I plan on using the methods that I learned in this course forever because they prove to be a vital source in my journalism career. I look forward to my next course.
