Listening adamantly to her, Kurtâs foot swayed lightly to some unknown tune and eyed her with a growing warm sympathy seeing how nervous she was right out of the gate. Â As he suspected, she was new. Lima wasnât a big town. Â The people in the hallways werenât vast enough he didnât recognize their faces even if he couldnât name the bulk of them. She, however, was someone heâd never seen. Â Finn swung into view when she mentioned him and he clamped his front teeth together, lips pulling back in a wince as he saw the failing motions Rachel was making as she went on. Even if she dropped her tone to one of those harsh whispers? Â Kurt could imagine they were dripping with Rachel-infused venom to drive home whatever point she was trying to make.
âPoor guy, he means well but when youâre in line for one of Rachelâs meltdowns? Itâs like trying to escape an on-coming train when your feet are tied to the tracks. Â Nooo chance in Hell,â he mumbled leaning a shoulder towards Lily to offer up his observation for her ears alone to hear. âThis oneâs my fault.. Â Oops,â smirking guiltily at Lily, Kurt tried to pull off an innocent shrug but yep..Finnâs torture was all his doing. Not that he meant to send Hurricane Rachel Finnâs way. But was he horrible that he was glad he was apparently missing the eye of the storm? Â âAt least he talked you into joining before his day went South? Â We might need someone to fill in if she goes..yep..right on time,â swinging up one hand from his knee, Kurt followed the path of Rachel as she stalked out of the room with a wave of his fingers. Â Nothing new under the sun and the serious lack of surprise on his face said so.
Sighing deep, he rolled his eyes ceilingward before picking up the conversation as if he never let it trail off.  âYes. We are.  Scenes like that happen on the daily..or hourly depending on the day but weâre close. Sorry if that was your first impression but you donât have to be nervous,â he glanced down to her hands and back. âTheyâre only looking at you like that because they have no idea who you are. Fix that?  And youâll have nothing to worry about.  Finn already asked you here so thatâs a plus.  I promise.  Youâre going to be okay.  Especially in the room of Misfit Toys. Or did he not fill you in on that part?â  Finn talked up Glee Club like it was the End All Be All of McKinley clubs.  Bless him for doing it..but..if anyone was going to give her a rude awakening that she landed herself in the room full of outcasts who all found each other because Glee Club was the only place they ever truly felt at home?  Unfortunately for Finnâs attempts, Kurt was going to be the one to fill her in.  Unintentionally or just for conversationâs sake?  Who  knew? Blame it on bluntness born out of..well..Kurt being..Kurt.
Lily furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and attempted to make sense of what Kurt was saying. She followed his gaze to where the girl heâd referred to as Rachel, was storming out of the room in a huff and leaving a confused Finn standing by the door. This happened daily? How did they ever get anything done? And, what did Kurt mean by, âthe room of misfit toysâ? Finn had made the glee club sound so...cool. Of course, Lily had been suspicious when heâd told her that glee was the most popular club in the school. Heâd told her that because glee club would get to visit New York for nationals, other students envied them.Â
âSo, Iâm guessing you guys arenât as...popular as Finn made you seem?â She was careful with her words, not wanting to offend Kurt. It didnât necessarily bother Lily that there were less students than she expected, but it was slightly uncomfortable to feel like so much of an outsider. It was comparable to not understanding an inside joke that everyone else seems to understand. Another thing that made her nervous was the thought of being asked to sing in front of the group.Â
With a deep breath, she pushed all of the negative and anxious thoughts out of her mind and just focused on one problem at a time. âSo...do I introduce myself to all of them, or...?â She asked, partially to Kurt and partially to herself. It felt like the entire room was staring at her and she felt the need to break the ice somehow. She assumed that Mr. Schue would introduce her anyway, but he seemed to be running late so maybe she should take matters into her own hands.
