My Typewriter (2/4)
1953 Remington Rand
I’ve always been fascinated with antique mechanical and electrical machines - especially typewriters and vacuum tube radios. I was looking around in an antique shop recently, and I bought this Smith-Corona Coronet Electric typewriter. This thing is beautiful! When I saw the condition it was in, I knew I had to have it. There’s some very minor scuffing on the bottom, but otherwise it looks almost brand new! The body and keys are in great condition, and the mechanisms seem to be fine - no dirt, rust, or anything. I was amazed at how clean it was. I tested it at the antique shop, and it worked flawlessly. The motor was super quiet and smooth, and all the keys woked just as they should. Whoever had this typewriter before really must have taken good care of it. It even came with the case and original instruction manual! I’ve been trying to find out when it was made, but I haven’t been able to figure out the exact year yet. Based on some reasearch I’ve done online, it seems to have been made sometime in the 1960’s. I found some vintage advertisements for this model from 1967, so it is at least that old. There was already an ink ribbon in the typewriter, so I was able to test it and type a little bit. Everything seems to work great. The ink is dried out and faded though, so I’m going to buy a new ribbon.I can’t wait to really test this thing out. As smooth as it seems to work, it should type really nice sharp, crisp text. Although it’s much easier to write with a computer, it’s fun and challenging to try something different. And this old typewriter really is a cool, beautiful machine.

Was cleaning the typefaces up a little and found these foreign symbols.
