startled by the voice behind him, he turned his head abruptly, nearly giving himself whiplash. he stared, not for too long, at the man who was now extending the bag of his chips towards him. he wasn’t sure what to make of this, but he did know that he disliked the condescending tone laced in the other man’s words. “i know… that. i am not… i’m not stupid.” he furrowed his eyebrows slightly. “i just - just thought i… had more.” his gaze fell and he began fumbling with the empty plastic in his hands. then, no segue, whatsoever, he blurted out, “you have… groceries,” without a moment of thought. "do you have sun…flower seeds?”

of course he knew what he had bought, god help him, he budgeted what little his groceries he had; still he rummaged through the paper bag and actually meant his apology for not having any. in queue, he  proclaimed that he had something better before discarding his bag of chips  as he pulled out a cup noodles and tore off the lid midway, saying with a soft voice, “dude, i never said you were. no one ever is really.”

the noodles cracked under his thumb as he pressed upon it, the seafood powder flavouring pungent to his nose yet reminiscent. shaking the styro cup, his gaze did not shy away to stare down his parking-lot-buddy. “listen, man, laws of physics aside,” his wrist twirling to the tune of macarena, he said, “i don’t expect you to actually count all the sunflower seed. now that would be stupid.” the words of the great snoop dog poured from his lips as the noodles stirred in the cup, mimicking the baseline of ‘drop it like it’s hot’. 

“park it like it’s hot, park it like it’s hot -- you know, because we’re in a parking lot.” the general audience needed to catch up with jokes, yet still he offered the raw ramen noodles, tearing the lid and being a horrible citizen by leaving it there on the ground. “come on, try it. it’s better than good.” he shook the cup again to entice the man before taking a pinch of noodles to eat. god must have been so proud when he decided to gift mankind with the beauty of ramen noodles, he commented through bites. “you know, usually, when i hang out in parking lots,” another pinchful before he dropped the cup next to his companion, “i’m drunk or about to get drunk. -- in which stage are you in?”

     Another day - another phone call from his father, probably wondering where the hell he was. Scoffing to himself, Jacob hit ignore on his phone for the 4th time that hour before turning back to the book in his hands. It was blissfully silent before his shrill ringtone sounded once again. “Oh for fucks sake-”

the cup was not steaming yet it warm. light, light brown coffee with too much sugar and too much creamer swimming in it. “we’re not a coffee shop,” paco introduced, the red m&m design of his own extra mug not all sitting well with the rest of the clean, stark, interior of his bakery, “but you look like you could use some.” he swayed a little with a companionable smile to the blaring of the ringtone. “-- on the house.”

his huff formed a soft mist over his breath, carried over far by the wee hour breeze. he gave the flashlight to the woman and asked her to prop the light right on the sign. in the skip of his limp he hummed with bitten lip. “watch this,” he had said, producing a small butterfly knife reinforced with his mother’s steel; not desecrating the sharp edge and using instead the blunt side to scrape, tear and dust off. slowly he crept backwards to her side and smiled at his little accomplishment.

Farrah Koeman had done the right thing. She’d seen a wallet fall, and so she’d run after the owner without even so much as a second thought. No, she hadn’t bothered to look through the contents of the wallet. (Such was a wrong thing to do. It was not hers to look through.) No, she hadn’t opened the wallet. And no, she hadn’t checked. In her head, she’d seen what she’d seen. In her head, the man she had been running after was indeed the owner of the wallet that had been dropped. She’d done the right thing — or, at least, she’d tried to.

As soon as the driver’s license was flashed before her eyes, however, Farrah knew she’d made a mistake. A grand one, at that! Instead of putting the wallet back into rightful hands, she’d handed it over to a man who — by the sound of his words — had plans to take advantage of something that was not his. Something that did not belong to him. Something that belonged to Constance, had Farrah only looked inside the wallet.

A shade of red came over her features. With both hands, she tried to reach for the wallet again. “Oh, god — sorry!” she said with a shake of her head. “I mean, you know, I mean — giveit back! No one’s buying anything with Constance’s money!” Farrah liked to do good, and she liked to be good. Using another person’s money after one found their wallet was not good, no. “Can you give that back to me, please? I need to return it to the proper owner. Proper owner who isn’t you, obviously.”

“man, i love it when i make girls red.” 

his laughter blossomed over the noise of the mid-hour traffic, passing through the honking in the distance. all these stares and scowls from sidewalk dinners, he could easily shake off. he was not about to sacrifice his amusement for a little misjudge of character. he held the wallet up over his hand and shook it little through flicks of his wrist, smiling at the lady with his brows raised in a litte game of take if if you can. “hey, hey -- hey, listen, listen, i’m sure constance, our friend, is a super generous lady and would have no qualms if we cash in the reward money a little early,” his voice curling with frisk, he said. 

beside him a man sat with a cuppa tea and lemon cakes, vegemite in an artisan’s saucer, butter and toast in the middle of the goddamn aftermoon; and he hissed through his teeth and round glasses, shaking head like a pastor would, saying, damning all these youngster and their pranks with none of the respect. to which, of course, cole merely replied with hands behind his back and craning his head lower, that if god giveth, then man should taketh. “besides, i always knew god is a girl anyway,” he spited just to make the tea bitter for the old man; winked at this good, good samaritan with poor investigative skills.

“i hope you like weird flavored ice cream,” he phrased over slow yet gapping steps, covering a whole score of square on the sidewalk and headed towards south downtown, leaving behind these good people of chester to have their little afternoon tea in feigned peace, “because i’m not giving this back to constance until i get some sweet potato sangria ice cream in me.”

sitting on one of those elevated parking blocks, he nibbled on some sunflower seeds he’d bought from the small grocery store that owned the parking space he was currently making base in. he was deep in thought, trying to retrace his steps. yes, he was lost, and no, he didn’t own a phone to contact daniel with. he didn’t have his number, either, so phone booths were out of the question. 

he seemed to be content with just sitting there, though, watching the cars that passed by, making doppler effects as they did. red cars, blue cars, black cars, red cars, blue cars, black cars. he heard the bells on the door of the store ringing every now and then–when someone came in, when someone came out–and he felt stares at the back of his head, but he didn’t mind them too much. he had his sunflower seeds and the lingering improbability of getting home, and he didn’t seem all that alarmed about it. so really, people staring was at the bottom of his agenda. red cars, blue cars.

ten minutes turned into twenty and twenty became thirty, and soon, he was all out of sunflower seeds. he turned the little plastic bag upside-down and shook it, you know, just to make sure. “it’s all gone,” he announced, more to himself, really, but also for the benefit of anyone listening.

automatic doors always made cole feel as if he was a jedi in training and the force was strongest in its affinity to open up paths for him; and he did not shy from hold up his free hand to mimic the great yoda as he walked back out of the store.

behind him, the grocery store had yellow prize tag sale over yellow plastic-wrapped sweets and 2-day old pies and carrot cakes sitting pretty on bright, bright shelves. the store, small yet with a nondescript “american” and “asian” aisle, had banners in red with stark ugly font that yelled “20% SALE*” and the notorious “tax not included” in a size made for either ants or some mutant with the power to read the fine script -- and cole was not a mutant (albeit his fired up pick up lines) and trying to come up with 4.75 more dollars more is another mutation he had yet to develop. so, goodbye $1.75 pecan pie, goodbye 4 for $2 french onion dip, goodbye dollar deodorant -- and hello, whole box of green tea kitkat and nissin cup noodles. kami-sama had always been good where it counted, and his quarter cents counted for a small bag of chips.

cheese flavor dust tasted best in his fingers. no one who knew the beauty of it was ever sad, and the guy still sat by the parking lot obviously did not know how to enjoy a bag of chips -- evidently so with him eating goddamn sunflower seeds.

his pant legs tightened over his limbs, threadbare and light from poor laundry mat etiquette (and poorer choice of fabric softener). the paper bag with his short list of grocery items rested over his outstretched lap and light grip. “well, i don’t know about you, but if you keep eating them, they will eventually be gone.” a passing car’s light hit both their faces and in mind squint, cole could see how detachment was neither fragile nor romantic. his bag of chips was near empty yet he offered still. “if you eat them, they’ll be gone. -- that’s the law of physics, man.” another car passed and another squint. 

what we do not see is often what is not being hidden.

hello friends i suck at intro posts but holaaaa im sam and here are my two cute sons!!!!

PACO MOON - 31, PANROMANTIC DEMISEXUAL, BAKERY OWNER

paco is the son of a mining chaebol. his family is super loving and humble!!! he was like 7??? when he moved to chester and he didnt speak a single word of english!!

his bestie 5vah ace was his first friend bc his parents spoke hangul, and they were the only people outside his own family whom he could talk to r  i p (( so basically paco had no choice but be friends with ace loljk 

paco is legit compassionate you guys!!!! like he was never spoiled nor pampered, but he was definitely loved!!! his parents always participated in charity events in the asia pacific region and paco used to go with them all the time!!!

he left chester for college in paris to major in architecture. he worked for a firm in singapore for quite sometime; studied for his phd there. 

he started doing freelance work and participating in a non-profit org that aimed to bring housing for the poor and victims of calamities around like ??? 3 years ago???

anywaaaay, he still came back home to chester every now and then to visit is grandpa who has opened a bakery out of whim -- wherein his bestie ace worked ((his parents went back to korea!!!))

when his grandpa died last november, he dropped his freelance work and took over the bakery bc omg HE DIDNT WANT HIS BESTIE ACE TO LOSE HIS JOB!!!

so he’s here now going on like lol what is yeast??? lol wtf is baking soda???

personality-wise: yes, he is very compassionate and kind and understanding -- he always wants to do the right thing. but he doesn’t understand that his right thing isnt the right thing for everyone. he’s become rather idealistic -- he forgives ppl to easily if they promise that they will change, or if they promise not to do something ever again. altho he knows the value of money, he has developed a sense of impulsive buying -- like just giving shit out for free guys. but he a good guy, come on 

COLE VASILIEV - 28, HETEROROMANTIC BISEXUAL, UNEMPLOYED

MY MULTI-CULTURAL SON!!! his back story is super long but basically he is a swimmer and opened up a swimming school with his uni teammates. he speaks 3 languages fluently!!! nihonggo, english, tagalog!! he has a limp on his right leg bc it hit a boat haul while trying to rescue some fishermen during a storm surge in the philippines. he is in chester now to attend physical therapy

OKAY LISTEN!!! cole’s mom is super badass!!! his mom was a tanto smith in japan!! tanto is like a short blade that samurais used!! it was in osaka that she met cole’s would-be dad -- who is from the continent (i mean from russia), and was also a tanto smith!!!! 

anywaaaay, they got married in las vegas yup bc cole’s mom is an american right!!! but then!!!!! it turned out that cole’s dad had a few records and the interpol was looking for him so byeeee dad

sooo cole’s mom returned to japan while she was pregnant right, and cole was born in okinawa, near an american base -- while her mom applied for an apprenticeship for the only remaining swordsmith in okinawa OMG ((kill bill reference u  GUYS!!!!!))

while there, cole’s mom met an american soldier and love bloomed as it was. sooo she got remarried in the army base, but cole still kept his russian surname

their little family was supeeeer happy and badass you guys!! and then when his step dad got deployed to the philippines when he was like 16, he decided to take a gap year from school and travel with him!!

it was in the philippines that cole started to fall in love with swimming. he was always in the beach surfing or just trying to defy waves; and when he came back to japan to finish high school, he started to participate in the swim club

he didnt really make much noise during high school in the swimming scene as he was a “late bloomer” but when he SOMEHOW go into kyoto university and majored in animal husbandry, more and more coaches noticed his potential

he participated in numerous swim meets and competitions during his time in uni, and there was even some rumor going around that he was to be a representative of japan in the ASIAN GAMES in 2010 but noooo unfortunately he was not picked 

anywaaaay, after graduating, he started immediately tried to apply for the us navy back in okinawa, but he had trouble with authority and waking up early ahhahaha

after 6 months of training, he deferred and started working at a dairy farm in new zealand; and when he saved up enough, he went back to japan to open a swimming school with some of his uni teammates -- that was about 2014

anywaaaay, during the summer of 2015 he took a vacation to visit his step dad (who was still based in the philippines) and took some of his friends with him. 

july is usually typhoon season in the philippines, but even so, he and his friends went out surfing all the time -- despite warnings FROM EVERYONE

on the day they came to baler - a beach known for its waves - the typhoon came and made landfall but they still fucking surfed jesus fuck BADASS!!!!!th

it was then that they noticed that a small fishing boat was still out at sea while the typhoon raged on. his friends were watching in horror as the boat tipped over and omg my son is a fucking hero BECAUSE HE FUCKING DASHED BACK OUT TO THE SEA AND TRIED TO RESCUE THE FISHERMEN

anywaaaaaay, all is well -- bc lol ofc the fishermen can fucking swim like a pro, but cole had hit his right leg and kneecap over the haul -- and it did some extensive damage over time because he did not get it checked out ugh he is so neglectful

nooow, altho he CAN still swim pretty well, he has a limp on his right leg and is attending physical therapy in chester TADA!!!

personality-wise: THIS BOY IS LIGHTHEARTED AF. it is not that he doesnt take anything seriously, he just tries to get a laugh out of everything. he loves cracking a joke and even laughing at his own expense. he is a true homebro -- but he is also omg crass and neglectful in terms of taking care of himself. like oooohhhh the shirt i wore last week still smells good, let’s go use it again. SEE?!?!?! ugh he is such a boy AND THINKS ARCADES ARE THE BEST DATE VENUES OMG bless my son u guys
